Thanks for the recommendation but I live in Canada, would be way to far to drive to NJ to get a parrotlet...lol. I know of a great breeder here too where I got Buzz.
@ssmb06 No, I'm not looking, one parrotlet is enough for me..LOL! He is the "king" of the house and I don't think he would appreciate having any competition for attention..lol
I used to sing Old McDonalds farm to him when he was a baby, his first words were "with a chirp, chirp here and a chirp chirp there" Although...sometimes he would get his verses mixed up....LOL. He has a huge vocabulary, always has something funny to say!
@scootrgrl Wow that's cute! I used to have a Senegal Parrot named Kermit (unfortunately he passed away early last year) and the only word he say is "Peek-a-Boo", "Kermit" and sounds like microwave beeps and the handphone SMS tones. These beeps sometimes does get a little annoying. Haha. Do Buzz mimic these sounds other than talking?
i have a pair of parrotlets a blue male and a green female.. i know it is easier to train just the one but is it possible to train them both at the same time? also they were never hand fed and i never asked their age before getting them i have nly had them for about a month but every time i open the cage door they freak out if i ry to go near them so i sit and talk to them by the cage.. any tips??
Are the male and female in the same cage? If that is the case, I don't know how much you will have to "socialize" them to you. You can "google" parrotlets and see what comes up. I "googled" parrotlets before I chose to purchase one so I knew what I was getting into, found a good reputable breeder only a 20 minute drive away so that was a bonus!
I have had a yellow female parrotlet for 6 years and she was so sweet in the beginning but in recent years she turned into a mini vulture. I can't even talk to her w/o her trying to tear me apart. Sad.
Hmmm....could it be hormones?? Buzz has been hormonal lately and is very "bitey". I would take your bird to the vet....sometimes when they are not well they will be mean. I had Buzz to the Vet, she said he was fine but hormonal, it's that time of the year!
I have an 8 month year old parrotlet and I cant seem to get her to talk. She mimics sounds, but that is about it. If you have any advice, PLEASE let me know :]
Males tend to learn to speak more quickly. I have had female budgies in the past that only managed to speak one or two words yet the males have had a huge vocabulary. That's not saying that your parrotlet can't or wont talk, it just may take a bit longer. I also have noticed that female birds pick up more "sounds" around the house than words so keep your ear open if you hear the microwave beeping...it may just be your bird! LOL
I have a parrotlet, but he still seems reluctant to speak like that. We rescued him from a house full of neglected animals so hes pretty skiddish, but seems to get really excited about reggae music lol
I think it depends on the bird. Males tend to talk more than females...(not like humans though huh??LOL)
He started talking only when he was about 5 or 6 months old and is still picking up the odd word here and there. Yesterday it was "birdie hungry" which was appropriate because it was dinner time!
Just keep speaking to him, easy words and he may surprise you!
LOL...that video seems so long ago..you should hear the blabber-beak now...he is hilarious! He now says "You're a funny bird..heheheh" he even laughs like me at the end. I'll have to try and catch him off guard and tape him again. He is camera shy now...lol
He has his own personality for sure and he knows what things are and when to say them which amazes me everyday. He seems to come out with the funniest words and sentences, always something new. I haven't yet counted how many words he can say. He seems to pick things up so quickly.
He is the funniest bird...when he wants food, he says..."want some birdie num nums" and when I give him the food he says "mmmm..hungry" It's amazing what these little guys will pick up. If I make a loud noise like drop something...he says "whoops", he even says that when I sneeze...LOL
Thanks for the recommendation but I live in Canada, would be way to far to drive to NJ to get a parrotlet...lol. I know of a great breeder here too where I got Buzz.

@scootrgrl Hi there, do you live in Ontario by chance? I know a place where they sell parrotlet's if you're still looking.

Buzz is really cute! At around what age did he start to talk?
proviewsg 1 year ago
@proviewsg
He started talking around 5 months old, he is still picking up words and sounds and he is now about 4 years old!
scootrgrl 1 year ago
@scootrgrl Wow that pretty fast! I guess he's talented. Most big parrots like greys only start to talk at around 8months to 1yrs old.

Yes, he imitates the sound of when I tap my spoon on the edge of my cup of coffee after I stir it.
He imitates the sound of when I drain water from a bowl of veggies I nuked in the microwave.
I got a new phone, he imitates that now.
He imitates the seagulls outside.
Oh...and one of the PC games I play when I destroy more than 3 balls in a row....he has that sound too...LOL
He has soooo many...he's pretty smart for a little bird!

Big Tip... get rid of one! It's impossible for them to 'tune' into you when they have a distraction so close at hand!
