i read Hoffmann's stories today in my german class. what a strange collection of tales for children, but then again, the Grimm stories were strange too - just Disney "prettied" the stories up

I discovered the book just a few years ago, as an adult, and it astonishes me.
As scary as this cartoon is, I think it pulled THE major punch, and didn't show Hoffman's original illustration of the Scissorman (or, the "Great Tall Tailor"), as he rushes in the door with his giant pair of shears.
That story used to terrify me when I was a kid - my dad had the original 1908 poetry book with the terrifying pic of the scissor man. Wouldn't be allowed in today's nannying society would it :) Your video clip was even more scary - BRILLIANT!!!!
Pro story. My parents kept telling me that when I was younger. I guess they aren't telling stories anymore to kids who are born at 2000 century
