For years I thought that simply an anti abortion tirade along with Living thing. I really thought Jeff could have kept his politics to himself and respected the right of a woman to choose. It's not like he's ever going to get pregnant.
@zapkvr My mother was pregnant and alone back in 1954. Fortunately her parents supported her, and in their honour I bear their name: JUAN--my grandfather--JOSE--my grandmother--MORALES.
@Suns351 You aren't the only one. The soundtrack is fantastic, the movie is forgettable. Chalk it up to Jeff Lynne, the man who wrote the music. Without Him, This movie would have just been Gene Kelly's Last Major Motion Picture.
The last time Jeff used the 50 Piece Orchestra..The conductor went on to those "Hooked On Classics" collection..The final 2 ELO Lp's were streamlined drastically.
A total disgrace. He helped make the sound of the '70's. A major player in the evolution pop. If people don't recognize that, than ( this is why I couldn't be on the debate team ) F-'em!

i LOVE this !! - i have the original vinyl soundtrack !!!!!... this was my favorite Movie i ever saw as a kid - i still remember being 8 years old, watching it and deciding right then at that moment that was born to literally be the character Olivia Newton John plays... ha ha !!! - in grew up in the shadow of a pill popping manic depressive painter
My friend and I watched this movie over and over again the summer of 80. We were both ten and riding our bikes, listening to elo and going to the community pool was all we did!!! The 80's was such a wonderful time in my life.
Doesn't this movie/soundtrack turn 30 years old this year? The vast majority of other soundtracks aren't even available now days. But I bought the cd of this just 8 months ago. What other soundtracks are still, readily available just 5 years, or even 3 years, after they have come out? I know of very few; and way fewer from this same 30 plus or minus years era. Fact is the only ones that come to mind are Saturday Night Fever and Grease.

I love the fact that you 12 and 14 yr olds admit to liking this movie. I didn't have that freedom when I was 14 (because peer pressure is EVIL !) Anyway, since you like this movie, check out other movies starring Gene Kelly, you're sure to like them too. Movies made before CGI and digitally "enhanced" (which means "repaired") audio. Pure talent, skill, and hard work. What you see onscreen is what these performers could actually do, they're amazing!!
i remember seeing this movie when i was 8. it was new at the time i think. Im sorry, This movie, the actors, the music, will live on in the annuls of time. It never got the props it deserved. Thanks Olivia, your voice has been with me for the longest!!!

For Deda, Super weekend. Great night tonight with lots of little ones, Claudia, Alex, Zoe, Calvin and Max and we were teaching them how to knit. Too funny. More funny, they got it. Great fun, thanks to Bren and Peter, off to bed with a nebuliser and half a gallon of water. Not even an egg boiled for the sangers tomorrow and the rain is teaming down. Have half an arm left of the Child of Prague that I'm considering putting into the burning embers of a candle. x
Part of a great summer with "Cars," "Call Me," "Tired of Toein' the Line," "It's Still Rock 'n Roll to Me," "Cupid," "Special Lady"and "Pilot of the Airwaves"...great times
man you guys are ALL so "right on" with this song and your comments, I also WILL have this song at my funeral, I feel this must be what it is like on the other side, you just simply feel "ALIVE"
@mochachip276 good music's timeless-try 'face the music'.....(my favourite)1975 and 'a new world record'.....1976-i brought them both in '76 when a new world record first came out.then 'out of the blue',some of the old stuff-up to 'time' '81.....
hell yeah im with you. im 16 and ive been watching this movie since i was 4 and nothing these days can even come close to being as magical as ELO, its sad, but im so glad this is still around :D
Do you know what's great for us 'old fellas' in our mid-40's? All the music that we 'grew up' with in the 70's and 80's was recorded on equipment that match up to current standards - so we still have our music to keep us company in our 'middle age'.
I won't go as far as to 'poo-poo' all the modern day artists - there's still talent out there, But by and large it IS garbage on the whole!
@mochachip276 you, my friend, are a rareity. I was a pre-teen when this song came out, when Xanadu and ELO were all the rage. I also listen to music my parents listened to, and although I do like SOME music today, I generally agree with you about most of today's music. I work with thirty year olds that have never heard of 80s music, even the classics. It's hard not to feel sorry for them. Enjoy the good tunes!
@mochachip276 I was nine back in 76 when I saw ELO on tv for the first time. I had never heard them till then. They knocked my socks off, and still do.
Calling all late 30 year olds and 40 somethings!! Let's break out Roller Derbies, spandex, and skate like we used do! Man, I miss that time. Where has all the fun gone?
@TheZunigal I'm too fat for anything but shorts and t-shirts these days. If I put on Spandex I'd probably look like an overstuffed burrito in a shiny wrapper. That reminds me, I'm hungry!
Right after this, Jeff's interest in ELO went south.

Have half an arm left of the Child of Prague that I'm considering putting into the burning embers of a candle. x

I'm 14, Born in 1996.
And I can't help but become emotional at hearing a song like this,
or from any band like Electric Light Orchestra. I love it!
Music today is garbage, this is amazing. This makes me happy. :)

@mochachip276 good music's timeless-try 'face the music'.....(my favourite)1975 and 'a new world record'.....1976-i brought them both in '76 when a new world record first came out.then 'out of the blue',some of the old stuff-up to 'time' '81.....

@mochachip276 It would seem that only 4 people agree with you. There are only a few bands that are still great, but not as great as the oldies.

@mochachip276
Great Comment!!

TheZunigal 1 year ago
@TheZunigal I'm too fat for anything but shorts and t-shirts these days. If I put on Spandex I'd probably look like an overstuffed burrito in a shiny wrapper. That reminds me, I'm hungry!
