  • Mr. Spann is awesome!!!! I wish their were more meteorologists like him.

  • First of all for a NEWSPAPER to refute the expertise of an experienced meteorologist who got his degree from MSU, which is one of the top meteorology programs in the nation, is just irresponsible and one sided. Also, to attack someones religion and somehow twist that into whether they believe in the global warming hype just shows how immature and ill-informed the attacker is!

  • TWC has nothing to do with the AMS. How could they take away Spann's certification?

  • James Spann is an institution in Alabama and no weatherman has ever come close in any other market I've lived in. He should be national.

  • Spann is the man.

  • Spann would have beaten Gore in a presidential election.

  • James Spann the weather god, all must bow before the might of his polygons.

  • Comment removed

  • he came to our school today!! hes so funny !!

  • James Spann is a beast!!!!!!!!

  • James Spann is not a climate scientist by any stretch of the imagination. He is an old radio guy that went from sports to weather.

He also doesn't believe in evolution.

  • @TheBhamFreePress You obviously have alterior motives for your comments.... You must be sucking the dick of the NBC idiots who helped the weather channel and heidi cullen sell out....

  • @comicpilot Keep it classy troll. No intelligent person denies global warming. I assume you are either a conspiracy theorists or a religious fundamentalists.

  • Respond to this video...

  • @comicpilot Is it even legal to call yourself a meteorologist if you don't have any formal training? I think it's funny that the conspiracy theorist and religious fundamentalists are attracted to charlatans like Spann.

  • @TheBhamFreePress If you had half a brain you would know the conspiracy theorists' are the ones who throw the global warming around.. Go research how much Cullen and Gore have made off of the "Global Warming" scare then come back and tell me they don't have alterior motives.. Kinda funny how Al Gore owns his own channel now, and brought on Olbermann (Old NBC) and Cullen is on a station now owned by NBC.. You do the math..

  • @comicpilot Ha ha. I guess you are not aware of what 100% of the scientific bodies on the planet have to say about the subject.

  • @TheBhamFreePress And yet he has spent hours upon hours alerting people of the dangers of severe weather and tornadoes, especially this season. Meanwhile where was Cullen? Probably on the phone with Al Gore thinking of their next plan of how to profit from 300+ lives being lost to severe weather... Global warming is to some degree something we need to monitor as well as reduce emissions, etc. But like a business the earth's processes, etc are cyclical.

  • @comicpilot Whatever. I just don't think TV weathermen should go around second guessing real climatologists and fooling the rubes into thinking that global warming is a hoax.

Spann is a Bible thumping con-man and his followers are morons. He's a liar by passing himself off as more than a just a television personality.

  • James Spann is a brilliant, dedicated forecaster who will stay on the air for hours if the weather is threatening.

  • In 1993, every weather broadcast in the area was saying, "no snow...a lot of rain." James said that you should go stock up on the provisionals because we were gonna get A LOT of snow. We ended up with about a foot and a half of snow in Alabama! That's a lot of snow for down here where we do not have the equipment to cope with the damage and inconvenience that it causes. Like rlltide said, when we have bad weather around here, the TV goes to ABC 33/40, James Spann and his protege Jason Simpson

  • If James Spann told me the sky was plaid, I would believe him.

    JAMES SPANN FTW.

  • SPANN IS THA MAN!!!

  • james spann! he is a legend here in alabama!

  • Anyone familiar with James Spann knows this. He IS meteorology! I get from a lot of meteorologists that "guesswork in a white coat" feeling, but James knows what the hell he's talking about.

  • God bless this man! This is stuff I've been screaming about for years and I'm like "where are the people who realize this!?"

  • James Spann is the

    best

    weatherman

    ever.

  • Beck, YOU ARE A NUTBALL!

  • glad to live in bham market spann is best weatherman in the country

  • Man cannot destroy what GOD has made, if so He would have let us create the world and it's atmosphere. I used to like Glenn Beck, but I've seen him say one thing but do another. Maybe he's just made to say this and doesn't believe what he says to people . James Spann loves God as I do! Praise GOD!

  • You have to take what Glenn Beck says with just a grain of salt.

  • I agree with religious tolerance and am bothered by bigots who think their way is the only way . . . but James Spann is not a whacko . . . whatever you may think of him as a person is your own business, but I've watched a lot of meteorologists in many different states, and this guy is as good as they come. Watch his live stream during severe weather . . . sure he has credentials, but you have to actually watch him a few times to realize those credentials don't tell half the story.

  • We didn't cause the Ice Age and we're not causing "this", and I don't believe "this" is even happening. It's funny how Al Gore will "sell" carbon credits. The mans flying personal jets and driving SUV's and just one of his houses consumes the same as 25 average homes, but if we line his pockets it'll help COOL THE EARTH!! Al Gore and this "Global Warming" movement is a joke. No wonder they stifle any counter points, it might make people realize how ridiculous all this is.

  • sRod21... you are a complete douche bag

  • for a while, i wasnt really bothered by this comment because it was so thoughtless and spiteful and it didn't deserve a response. im not saying this directly to the person who wrote it, but to the people reading it. this comment is just ignorance and hate. just because i have different views than yours, does that make me a bad person? if so, then let the sinner cast the 1st stone.

    ...i see someone already has.

  • I'm sorry, I got confused. Did you disagree with him because he believes in God?

  • no, no. not at all. if he believes in god, thats fine and none of my business. i believe in god as well.

however, its what he said in that line which stands out. remember, since the "day" god put it here. to me, that would suggest he assumes the whole "earth made in 7 days" skit. if he does believe that (as well as other fables), for him to be a man of science is very discrediting.

i just hope your question was sincere. if it was sacastic, then thats just rude to assume i dont believe in god

  • how can say you believe in God....yet say that the earth being created in 7 days is a fable>??? im guessin that you dont believe in the same God that James and I believe in buddy......

  • perhaps my interpretation of god is not the same as yours. nothing wrong with that btw. however, its not that we dont believe in the same god, we believe different "version" of god. What you said is almost like saying i dont believe in the right god (e.g., if i was hindu) and thats just prejudice. theres a difference between faith and delusion. sometimes theres room for other views.

  • DUDE.......there is ONE GOD.....the Bible CLEARLY states in Genesis 1:1 that God created the world....the Bible also says that it took Him 6 days and on the 7th He rested....plain and simple...there IS NOT 'versions" of God....there is the ONE TRUE GOD that created you and LOVES you...and yea it sounds like we dont believe in the same God....because I believe in the 1 true and living God....the God of the Bible...

  • (continued)....the God that sent His son Jesus Christ to the world to save us...thats the God that James and I believe in....and yea...being that there is only one true God, you obviously dont believe in Him...or am I wrong in that? Because if you do believe in Him, then you must believe in the Bible, which says that God Almighty created the earth...buddy there is no other view...im not being prejudice...its the truth...and if you believe in God as you say you do, then you cant dispute that

  • Its funny, you could say the same about Jesus. He was a rebel. He went against the Torah. In their eyes, he was a blasphemer and a heretic. All of them were SO certain in how wrong he was! Think about it. What if you were in their position? Imagine believing in something and being told your whole life that its true, then someone comes and tells you that your wrong. I bet youd be pissed.

  • UM....i am talking about Jesus....you know what..this has gotten way out of hand.....I'm gonna say exactly what James told me to tell you....Jesus loves you......

  • But I guess im just a fool with no understanding of the deeper forces at work. Keep reading your book, im sure it has all the answers...just remember, once you except something as fact, you are inescapably bound by it.

  • Oh I will....and again...God loves you and I hope I see you in heaven one day

  • wow, your seriously not listening to what im saying. im done with this. my hands are clean.

  • But...uhdude...talking snakes? Im really sorry that you are brainwashed (honestly) but dont impose your dogmatic speeches on me. And dont command me and say if I believe in one thing, then I MUST believe in something congruent to that. If I want to, I can believe that 2+2=4 and 3+3=579.0843 (in quantum physics that might actually be plausible). But like I said, guess you showed me that Im just crazy.

  • Al Gore is just out to make money. Oh and he is a NUT!!!

  • james has never been more right

  • Oh crap, James Spann's suspenders are showing!!! Where is the tornado???

  • Ban plastic bags and bottles!!!!!!!! The production of the plastic is using too much petroleum. Nearly 90% of plastic water bottles are not recycled. Each year the U.S. uses 84 billion plastic bags, a significant portion of the 500 billion used worldwide. They are not biodegradable, and are making their way into our oceans, and subsequently, the food chain. For more information and tips, "google" 50 Ways to Help the Planet.

  • doesn't anybody remember, back in the 80's, eviromentalist wacko's, were talking bout "GLOBAL COOLING", according to them, were supposed to be in a new ice age by now. they don't know what they are talking about.

  • "The weather has always changed since god put it there"

That says it all,no wonder he got the boot!

  • james hasnt gotten any boot buddy----STILL CHIEF METEOROLOGIST AT WBMA IN BIRIMINGHAM AND I AM PROUD AND HAPPY TO CALL HIM A FELLOW CHRISTIAN AND EVEN PROUDER TO WATCH HIM EVERY NIGHT----

  • bhamcby..AMEN!!

that dude was making no sense..he believes in God, but yet says the Bible is full of fables?? yeah, no clue there.

I agree will everything you said. And as a fellow Christian im proud to have you represent =)

I love James Spann too..he's the man!!

i think its funny that because were Christians were "prejudice".."weird"..and my personal favorite "simple-minded"

HA! I suppose the Big Bang Theory makes more sense?? Naw!

  • I'd sooner believe Mr. James over Al Gore.

  • A politican lie? Never!

We all know that meterologists are the liars here!

  • he is a great weatherman, i live here in alabama, and the world revolves around him when the weather gets bad. he saved several lives the other night when all those tornados came through, and i almost was one of them.

  • I know! he's Awesome!

He told people where my aunts family lives to go to a safe place because the radar was showing "strong indication of rotation" and he didnt know why the weather service hadnt posted a tornado warning..ten minutes later..which was too late.. the weather service let out a warning. It was an F2 or F3 that hit where she lived..houses completely gone, and no one died.

    Thanks James Spann!

  • @rlltide08 AGREED.

  • @rlltide08 so he didnt save your life??

  • he's a freakin weatherman!

  • check his credentials

  • It is very typical for someone who is insecure in their weak argument to fall back on attacking the person. This is what I have found over and over in those who insist that global warming is man made.

  • You skeptics are ridiculous...Why don't you take a look at the temperatures between 1929 and 1940? Huh? You say Glen is closed-minded, but yet you base your beliefs on what is most popular in the mainstream media. It is fine for you guys to criticize James and Glen, but how about checking the facts for yourself before you call them incorrect. Or do you just go back on "In Gore We Trust"???

  • "Well Glen, the Earth's climate has changed since the day God put it here."

Hahahahaha - some fucking scientist! Does anyone take these gimps seriously?

Just more religiously blinded conservative drivel.....life is more valuable to be spent listening to this shit.

  • So what is your take on the issue?

  • God and religion are issues of faith, not science. Just about everything the three divine religions (Islam, Christianity and Judaism) have to say about the Earth contradicts verifiable scientific theory. So if you take the view that God put the Earth here, you are automatically disenfranchising your credentials as a meaningful commentator on weather patterns.

  • Actually, to be more specific, I was referring to the issue of "Global Warming".

  • He's in Birmingham, Alabama. "...since God put it here" is nothing more than a typical southern phrase, and does not suggest in the least that he's blinded by religion. If that's the most you got against him, you really need to re-examine your position.

  • It's a typical Southern phrase because Southerners believe in God as the divine creator, in spite of a mountain of evidence that God could not possibly have created Earth as the bible lays out. As a scientist, I can tell you that proving man has made a major contribution to GW is child's play. It's fakes like this guy who cloud the issue.

  • Religion doesn't even enter into this discussion. You are taking one comment he said and running with it. I don't care what your opinion is about if God could have created the earth or not, because it's not important to this discussion or this video.

So as a scientist, you can provide proof of man made global warming? Let's see it. And remember, correlation does not imply causation.

  • That's what I am saying. So why does this guy start talking about God, as if he has anything to do with it? We are talking about science here, backed up with hard evidence!

Man is by no means the only reason the planet is heating up but there are two things we have done which has made a major contribution. And for data relating to the past 50 years, we are by far the greatest contributor.

  • Again, it's a southern saying, not a direct religious statement, and you are making WAY too much out of it.

  • ...By destroying approx. 45% of tree cover in the last 500 years and pumping billions of tons of COª into the atmosphere burning fossil fuels, we have increased the concentration of COª in the atmosphere.

  • ..We emit about 130 times more COª than volcanoes and hot springs. It is now globally averaged at about 385 ppm vol. or 582 ppm mass (approx. 32% higher than start of the Ind. Rev).

COª absorbs infrared light, which carries heat-thats how thermal imaging cameras work. They "see" infrared light emitted by sources of infrared radiation (heat).

  • ...So the COª we are pumping into the atmosphere (and which is not being converted back into oxygen as quickly as before 'cos there are fewer trees to do so) is causing our planet to heat up...The process is being accelerated by melting icecaps (dark sea absorbs more heat than reflective ice) and melting permafrost (releasing far more dangerous methane)...

  • ..Although water vapour accounts for a much higher % of the greenhouse EFFECT, its concentration in the atmosphere isnt changing,so its not a contributor to global WARMING...

  • Glenn Beck is a close minded, hypocritical, self contradicting hypocrite.

  • "Unavailable." Gee, I wonder why. Will you please answer us, Heidi? Maybe you can't take the "heat" of open dialogue and debate. So typical of an elitist.

  • Some people will believe anything and some believe nothing.Beck does a good job of seeding doubt and bias but ultimately one must look for themselves.

  • Dude, for one thing, James is not a freakin lobbyist. And just because he is a Christian, doesnt mean he is wrong. I am proud to be a Christian, and I am even prouder to say that James has my full support and that living in Birmingham, I am even prouder to be able to watch him on TV every night.

  • Too bad Spann didn't spend time talking about the Christian Worship Music stations he is Chairman of. How come all the experts that dispute the consensus view of global warming are lobbyists, from think tanks like the Cato Inst or AEI, supported by the energy industry and/or are evangelicals? Roy Spencer who regularly shows up on Beck, FoxNews, etc promotes intelligent design.

  • Amen,people of Alabama unite

We're still warming from the freakin Ice Age.

  • Wake-up call! Both sides take money! You need to follow the money behind Man made Global Warming supporters! Yes, Big Oil gives money too both sides! It's up to you to investigate the issue, and don't be so close minded! Remember, money triumph's everything, no matter the side!

  • State of Fear read State of fear

  • From Websters dictionary, meteorology is the science dealing with the atmosphere and its phenomena, including weather and climate. Thewah1 you have no base to your argument. Sounds like your the drug addict talking about...ummmm....anything.

  • What?

"The science that deals with the phenomena of the atmosphere, especially weather and weather conditions." from answers. com

"Meteorology is the interdisciplinary scientific study of the atmosphere that focuses on weather processes and forecasting." from the 'pedia. In all the definition there is one reference to "climate".

    "Climatology" on the other hand...

  • yup, and cows create more global warming than anything else, go look that up too

  • yeah, and who put all the cows there...people. Still man made.

  • people made cows? haha! what drug are you on?

global warming may be real, but its filled with propaganda.

  • I didn't say people "made" cows, I said they "put" them there, on earth. We breed cows to such unnatural numbers that the insane amounts of methane they produce, is essentially caused by people and our choices. Sure I realize, it's indirect but it is still an important connection. I also agree with you on the propaganda, but as far as I know, ice doesn't have a political agenda when it melts.

  • so if we didnt make them..we didnt put them here...u can ship cows around the world but we didnt put them on this earth...TOOL

  • We breed people to such unnatural numbers (6 billion). Has there EVER been 6 billion people on the planet before? Has anyone ever done a study on how much Co2 a single human produces?

  • How in the WORLD could it be UNNATURAL numbers, if we are natural beings? We reproduce less now than in the past. There has been more Co2 on the planet before, it was when the dinosaurs lived (and if you look at the span of time, they inhabited the planet a LOT longer and were in numbers more than 6 billion...)

  • volcanos and bush fires are the worlds biggest Co2 Emitters thats a fact but you never hear it

dont beleave me look it up

  • --

Coal-burning power plants are the largest U.S. source of carbon dioxide pollution -- they produce 2.5 billion tons every year. Automobiles, the second largest source, create nearly 1.5 billion tons of CO2 annually.

    --

Also, the whole point is about the added CO2 to the atmosphere. The added CO2 is adding temperature. And we've added a lot.

  • Yeah Right! and I'd like to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge

  • "where were the suvs when the dinosaurs were BURNED"

    what a fucking genius!!

  • Ummm...meteorologists study weather. They do not study climate. Climate and weather are not the same thing. To have a weather-guy talk about climate change is like having a drug addict (beck, limbaugh) talk about...umm...anything. Science is not a "free market". It's about analyzing data. Global temperature change and CO2 levels are highly correlated. Human activity has massively increased CO2 levels.

  • weather influences climate and the sun infulences weather

  • Wonderful.

However, all the studies focused on the subject lend a great deal of support to the hypothesis that the rapid increase (historically speaking) in temperature on the planet can, in part, be attributed to skyrocketing CO2 levels. I've yet to see much support that says the sun can explain the same phenomenon. I have seen reports that sun activity is a plausible explanation for ice age changes, but those happen in the 41,000 and 100,000 year range. Not the 150 year range.

  • Two things: One, the earth is 6000 years old, not millions or billions. Second, a leading British newspaper reported a few months ago that NASA observed that the planet Mars is also undergoing global warming. I would not have known about that important piece of information had I not listened to the Albert Mohler program when he brought this up.

Draw your own conclusions, if you will.

  • Are you for real? Where do you think oil comes from if the world is only 6,000 years old? Or fossils for that matter? What evidence do you have that the world is just 6,000 years old?

  • I agree with Spann's stance on this, but not "his credentials are incredible." He doesn't even have a bachelor's degree in meteorology. A little misleading.

  • I'm not sure if it was a bachelor's degree or not, but he did complete some sort of certification from MSU in broadcast meteorology. And some of the awards he's won for this weather coverage are pretty incredible.
