@dirtrox72 I got my info from motocross action, they did a comparison between the yz250 and the yz250f. the horsepower numbers are peak at 11,300 rpm on the 250f and 8,500 on the 2-stroke. if its such a lie contact motocross action and tell them that. i highly doubt the manufacturers are going to let them release false statistics.

@dirtrox72 nope i live in michigan, and the ca models probably make less power cuz of all the stupid emissions tests they have to pass. im not trying to say that one is better than the other, but a two stroke does make more peak power, but the same size 4-stroke can be competitive because theyre easier to ride, the powers more forgiving, and they put the power to the ground real well where 2-strokes are spinning, just depends on the track or terrain to see which is better

@ctrivelpiece ive looked and ive read different forums on 2vs4 strokes and people say 2 strokes and others say 4strokes, and yea the AMA has banned 2 strokes so yes they all ride 4 strokes now, and from my own personal experience i use to ride 2 strokes then i got my yz450f and i wouldnt go back to a 2stroke now. in my personal opinion the only thing a 2stroke has over a 4stroke is its lighter weight.
@evanevan1717 you must have missed the part of cc for cc a 2 stroke makes more power. Here since you missed it the 2011 crf250r makes a massive 38hp makes roughly 47hp. On to the next example xr650r makes 47hp (which is commonly used in supermoto races) now the maico 700 2 stroke makes 80hp and still lightweight. Most people switch from 2 strokes not because their slow or lacking power. Its mostly because 4 strokes are easier to ride. Its just a laziness factor.

2 stroke 250s produce more peak hp than 450 4 strokes. The only reason people think the 450s are faster is because they have a smoother power delivery, which makes it easier to go fast without pissing yourself. If you know how to ride a 2 stroke, you can destroy 4 strokes all day. I'll put my ktm 250sx against any 4 stroke 450. The thing we all need to remember is, there is only a handful of people in the world who can handle ALL the power of a 450 4t OR a 250 2t.

btw.. only the ktm 550 tops the yz490 out cuz the ktm is an enduro bike, the yz tops out all the other bikes i run it against (it has a small rear sprocket only) nd few other mods
I like my 2 smoker because I can't afford to pay a grand when I blow the top end. The smokers are far cheaper to maintain and both haul my fat butt around about the same. I've had both but prefer the 2 stroke

A Maico 250 (2 stroke) puts out 59hp and 33 ft lbs of torque. So in a contest between bikes of equal capacity the 2 strokes win hands down. All races are a drag race from corner to corner and then a contest of handling over the whoops, jumps and corners.

A 4 stroke can not be a good engine if it requires twice the capacity to push out roughly the same HP as a 2 stroke half its size. Personally I can't wait to see equal displacement racing come back. 450cc 4 strokes should have to compete against 450cc 2 strokes (the old "open class" bikes)

@dirtrox72 nope i live in michigan, and the ca models probably make less power cuz of all the stupid emissions tests they have to pass. im not trying to say that one is better than the other, but a two stroke does make more peak power, but the same size 4-stroke can be competitive because theyre easier to ride, the powers more forgiving, and they put the power to the ground real well where 2-strokes are spinning, just depends on the track or terrain to see which is better

@ctrivelpiece ive looked and ive read different forums on 2vs4 strokes and people say 2 strokes and others say 4strokes, and yea the AMA has banned 2 strokes so yes they all ride 4 strokes now, and from my own personal experience i use to ride 2 strokes then i got my yz450f and i wouldnt go back to a 2stroke now. in my personal opinion the only thing a 2stroke has over a 4stroke is its lighter weight.

@evanevan1717 you must have missed the part of cc for cc a 2 stroke makes more power. Here since you missed it the 2011 crf250r makes a massive 38hp makes roughly 47hp. On to the next example xr650r makes 47hp (which is commonly used in supermoto races) now the maico 700 2 stroke makes 80hp and still lightweight. Most people switch from 2 strokes not because their slow or lacking power. Its mostly because 4 strokes are easier to ride. Its just a laziness factor.

2 stroke 250s produce more peak hp than 450 4 strokes. The only reason people think the 450s are faster is because they have a smoother power delivery, which makes it easier to go fast without pissing yourself. If you know how to ride a 2 stroke, you can destroy 4 strokes all day. I'll put my ktm 250sx against any 4 stroke 450. The thing we all need to remember is, there is only a handful of people in the world who can handle ALL the power of a 450 4t OR a 250 2t.

@gdog1195 A 250cc 4 stroke produces 10 to 20 hp less than a 250cc 2 stroke (depending on the make) Yamaha YZF250 puts out about 34hp and 22foot lbs of torque while the YZ250 puts out 45hp and 33 foot lbs of torque. A Maico 250 (2 stroke) puts out 59hp and 33 ft lbs of torque. So in a contest between bikes of equal capacity the 2 strokes win hands down. All races are a drag race from corner to corner and then a contest of handling over the whoops, jumps and corners.

Racing is a form of advertising, "Race On Sunday, Sell On Monday" Most countries 2T are no longer legal for road use, so what's the point of advertising something you can not sell? Most countries have a large sector of their market as dual purpose (On/Off road bikes). That is the market that is being aimed at when racing motoX. The whole point is that a 2 stroke produces more power for a given capacity and the only way the 4 jokes have a chance is to let them have a massive capacity advantage. @Scootertuner1000 yea but who compares cc to cc. its 125 vs 250 4 stroke and 250 2 stroke against 450. they compete against each other. now 250 vs 450. no chance 450 will win everytime. 250's are gutless and have to rev the ring out of them to get hp out of it.

@sifuwould Yes I agree a 250cc 4 stroke is gutless, but not a 250cc 2 stroke. The 250cc 4 stroke needs to rev to 11,000rpm to produce 34hp while the 250cc 2 stroke only has to rev to 8500rpm to produce close to 60hp. A KTM or Maico 250 will beat a CRF450 . You have to compare cc to cc, it is the only fair way to do it. The 4 strokes have 100% capacity advantage because of the clout of the 4 stroke manufacturers. It used to be cc against cc, and that could be coming back again.

@sifuwould Yes but the 4 strokes need twice the capacity to do it. It should be 250 vs 250, that used to be how it was and it looks like that might be the case again soon. A 4 stroke can not be a good engine if it requires twice the capacity to push out roughly the same HP as a 2 stroke half its size. Personally I can't wait to see equal displacement racing come back. 450cc 4 strokes should have to compete against 450cc 2 strokes (the old "open class" bikes)

@Scootertuner1000 haha at saying 4 stroke engines aren't good even though every motor today is a 4 stroke. only reason why the 2 stroke makes good power because it has less moving parts in the engine. i don't really care what you say. i see a hell of a lot more 4 strokes then 2 at motocross tracks and in the bush.

@sifuwould No actually they make more power because every downward stroke of the piston is a combustion stroke whereas on a 4 stroke it's every other downward stroke. The reason you mainly see 4 strokes is because 2 strokes can not be sold for use on the road and racing is a form of advertising. Win on Sunday sell on Monday. Why advertise something you can not sell for street use? That is why you see a hell of a lot more 4 strokes. 2 strokes are too dirty and don't pass EPA for street use.
