This was more or less just a reason they came up with to kill Axel. Riku and Sora kill about the same number of nobodies and they were tried from fighting Xenmas. Axel could've lived.
No you team up with Axel as sora first enters the world that never was in a large scale battle against some nobodies, he just fights along side you. In the end, he puts his whole being into one final attack and destroys the remaining nobodies and giving sora a chance. Thus of course, Axel dies from this.
you know what...? I finished the game the day after it came out, and that must be why I don't remember this.... When do you team up with Axel? Or is this from a new version (Like KH 1 has...?) with more to it?
