  • it was Bowie's 50th birthday...it was Bowie's party!!

  • Bowie was a genius songwriter. Too bad it had to end.

  • ah yes, vhs, takes me back

  • It's great but I want the bartender to deliver me Ronson + Bowie + Reed

    Not this locally?

    ok..

  • too many famous people in one space

  • Lou Reed married a woman. It's a seemingly impossible situation made in America. God Bless the U.S.A.!

  • Truly amazing.

  • Lou...lou...

  • Bowie is the creator reed, I'm sad to say, the dinosaur

  • YEAAA

  • Two great musicians playing a great song. Fantastic.

  • too bad for the quality...

  • gods

  • sound is shit on this ??

  • I think thats the first time Ive ever seen Lou Reed smile on stage : )

Great to see and a great version too!

  • i love that bowie pretty much rescued lou by producing transformer.

  • I love when bowie, despite the fact it was his own audience, in the matter of deffending his all time friend and master lou said them "KING OF NEW YORK HIMSELF, MISTER LOU REED"

  • Bowie-Reed. I need not say anything more.

  • Lou Reed, a former heroin user, looks great. Cheek Marin won a knowledge contest on TV's Jeopardy. Hugh Hefner, not an advocate of temperance, looks great at 84 and his 24-year-old wife looks even better! Mick Jagger can still wow stadium sized audiences in his mid-Sixties. Maybe we should just say yes. Maybe Oscar Wilde was correct. "The best way to resist temtation is to yield to it, After all, it's not temtation at all but oportunity."

  • @DickAllen4HOF

Go look up meth addict pictures on google and get back to me on that one.

  • @Billcruxley Can you get me some of the good stuff?

  • @DickAllen4HOF

    Hahaha, well-played.

  • Lou Reed's love is chemical.

  • Davids 60th birthday ... nice to see the 2 boys get back together and rockit !!

  • watching them play together is like christmas.

  • I was thinking this song referenced Georgette from Last Exit To Brooklyn ?

  • ...if only i was there

  • Magic: 3:19-3:23

  • Is it me or does he sing this song's album version in the same style as Lou Reed's Heroin?

  • What a fuckin amazing video

  • check the sound on my version~great vid!

  • Excellent to see this, shame the sound's so appalling (sorry to be negative!), any chance of doing something about that?

  • Lou Reed sounds more like a senior citizen than the King of New York!

  • Lou reed looks like Frankenstein

  • This is the best thing I've ever seen...

  • god, the overdrive on that guitar is horrendous

  • cant see who the guitar player is, I'm betting it's Reeves Gabrel. I can't stand his sound, he's not an bad player but he didn't suit Bowie's older stuff at all.

  • its lou reed... kinda said so in the title.

  • I don't think the overdrive sound is from Lou's guitar, there is another guy stage right.

  • @superlou1s

Nah its the other guy there are three guitar lines in this.

  • @dave17186

It's reeves indeed... You can see him at 1'30 :)

  • I know what you mean. The lead player went way overboard with the OD...much too muddy for the 70's classic rock sound.

  • @nookie077

well... that's what the song sounds like...

I mean it might be a tad overbit, but the overdrive is much like the song.

  • @rakuencallisto

That's cool, if your ear thinks it sounds the same then that's good...enjoy. But as a guitar player of many years, I can assure you that it doesn't sound like the record. I think I gave my reasons in my previous comment. Read the other comments on here slagging it off...it's not just me.

  • You need a tubebender for that song

  • I am FREAKED! is it me? my audio is way low! I completly want to hear this! If nobody else has a problem, please let me know? thank you

  • Love it

  • Why the boos at the start, and why the disrespectful look by Reed at the other guitarist?

  • Reed is an ornery guy!!! Gotta love him!

  • David Bowie is a verrrry attractice man, but his "orange hair period" is my least favourite look on him.

  • Doesn't Bowie look quite ambitious compared to Lou Reed who looks quite shy

  • @annodlund IT"S HIS BIRTHDAY

  • Yeah me too. My favourite look of his is this one photo in the booklet of the remastered edition of Hunky Dory that my mum's got. He's got long blond hair which is cool but the best bit is his shirt. It's sort of loose and it just looks really cool.

  • guauuuuuu que espectacular bowie y lou reed primera vez que veo esto, es emocionante este estio de cancion, que hermoso ritmo .....BOWIE FOREVER.

  • Next to Cher, I can't imagine anyone else who hadn't aged in ~30 years like David Bowie.

  • I like the version that Green River did alot, but man this one is even better i think.

  • two legends together!!!!!!!

  • This is the best version ever of this song because Last Exit To Brooklyn was set in New York an Lou is closer into that which gives this version more energy

  • There's a huge difference between this version and the original. Somehow the overdrive effect has been switched to massive distortion and Bowie's British accent has clearly faded away to a more American one. This is therefore not my favorite version :(

  • tat is an old word for lace (try a dictionary) Satin and tat = satin and lace. Simple really.

  • verb (used without object), verb (used with object), tat⋅ted, tat⋅ting. to do, or make by, tatting.

1 : a small protein produced by a lentivirus (as HIV) within infected cells that greatly increasesthe rate of viral transcription and replication and that is also secreted extracellularly where it plays a role in increasing viral replication in newly infected cells and in enhancing thesusceptibility of T cells to infection called also tat protein

  • 2 : the viral gene that codes for the tat protein

    tetanus antitoxin

    Thematic Apperception Test

    Transatlantic Telephone

    true air temperature

    turnaround time

Trying a dictionary makes it anything but simple, seeing that they list many things, but nothing about lace.

  • in a song from hunky dory, recorded in 1971? are you crazy? who are you, dustin hoffman from rain man?

  • Obviously not, but the guy said "try a dictionary". So I did. The definition that he said would be there was not ( I tried several.). That is what I found. I am not Dustin Hoffman, nor his character from Rain Man.

  • What is crazy about consulting a dictionary when instructed to do so?

  • you gotta know how to consult it... words change their meanings in history and time and different places, think about 'fags': it's not necessarily 'cigarettes' ;)

anyway, doesn't matter. let's listen once again to this pearl and these two heroes.

  • I agree. You do realize that I know how to consult a dictionary, right? and that I understand etymology and the evolution of language, right? and that you have stated the obvious back to me as if I didn't know it, right? and that I am not a crazy "rain man", right? and that "fags" is not really a great example, because a modern dictionary will have all of the definitions of that word (old and new), whereas I listed every definition that I found for "tat" and there was nothing about lace.

  • No, these days "fags" means someone who wants attention so they get a harley and zoom around making a lot of loud noise annoying anyone.

    hahaha

  • Now here's a song - too bad only up to 1:18.

  • David Bowie is so bad ass!! This song is awesome!!

  • Gorgeous clip!

  • Lou Reeds all... :| emotionless.

David's having fun though! What a catch; I envy Iman.

  • Lou Reed always looks pissed off.

  • that's his poker face :)

  • @IanRoantree Especiially next to Bowie, who looks so care-free.

  • @IanRoantree Lou Reed is always pissed off.

  • @IanRoantree Lou Reed doesn't get pissed off because he just flat out don't give a fuck. He's just THAT cool.

  • @IanRoantree and a lot like Joe Piscopo...

  • @IanRoantree hes just always pissd now cuz hes sober

  • @IanRoantree AND like Joe Piscopo!

  • This was Bowie's 50th Birthday Celebration!

Now its January 8th 2009! (uh oh!)

Thinking about the chorus for a minute...I know what Satin is, I can probably figure out what a frock coat is....what is "tat?"

  • Tat is short for tatty (tattered). So satin & tat is sort of another term for shabby chic.

  • it's an english slang term for rubbish - as in ''what a load of old tat!''

  • That's funny! We Americans sometimes forget how different we are from the Brits

  • GREAT collaboration of Bowie's pure enchantment and Lou Reed's sheer power -- but I always wondered, whatever is this "bibberty-bobberty hat" of which The Gentleman sings? What sort of hat would that be?

  • Lou Reed ruined my life.

  • Whaaaa?

  • what the fuk the synthis crapping Lou reeds voice?

  • I was at this show. Man it was hard to hear R Gabriel ruin the older tracks.

  • I agree with you... never rated Reeves Gabrel, thought he just made a load of screeching noise. To think he played with Bowie for so many years.... just shows how lazy Bowie can be. Ronson RIP.

  • Too bad Lou couldn't bother to memorize one freakin' verse! I thought he wouldn't sing at all, and then he's got to sneak peaks at the music stand! Should have followed it up with "Vicious."

  • Fabulous! Never saw this viddy before... thanks to Syd8965 for the share.

  • wow - if looks could kill Bowie would be dead. He's prob thinking all those years ago...well who would have known..lol

  • :) great duo

  • there is a god, two in fact!

  • "there is a god, two in fact!"

    totally agree

  • I (L) LOU REED so much, so so much

    and Bowie.

By far my favorite singers, ever. WOW

  • oh quiet bitch!!! lol

  • this is when Bowie was in his bad-ass-Nine-Inch-Nails phase. One of my favorite eras.

  • WHITE Hot!!! Royalty!!

  • wow I think seeing them both in the same video was so awesome it sent chills down my spine. very amazing.

  • am watching the video but,there's " NO-SOUND ",even at the highest-level of my Comp,speakers = !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    does anyone-else,have this 'problem' ??????

  • i got the same shit

  • yes

  • I don't wanna bitch about Lou but his voice sounded kinda raspy here. Like he had a cold or something. What do you guys think?

  • His voice always sounds raspy. he's sixty-somethen

  • Well I know how old he is and how his voice sounds normally and I simply thought it sounds more raspy (or whatever you'd call it) in this video. But well doesn't really matter, does it?

  • Great version with 2 greats.

This version is called "Quiet Bitch".

  • non-high enough to show emotion!!! impressive!!

  • two legends together!!!!!!!

  • ...did Lou actually smile?

  • I know! He actually looked like he was enjoy himself.

  • Bowie's there ;)

  • why you dont put the sound on ? uh

  • Bowie just, "Plain Old Rocks"

  • ZOMG I've gone deaf!!! Wait... uh... what happened to the audio?

  • i've always loved bald chicks...no joke

  • "that thing" (as you call her) is Gail Ann Dorsey. She is one of the best touring bass players who has worked with lots of huge acts. Nothing too flash .. she can riff out but she is tight in the pocket. She can also sing. I saw Bowie in France a few years ago from the side of the stage and she was ripping it up! Respect!

  • that was queen bitch..oh lol

  • No good bitchin' about Lou. It's his style...

It does stick out a mile when you've been used to hearing the original for years

  • I love Lou and Dave These guys are legends

  • Last Exit to Brooklyn The Smiths Albun The Queen Is Dead is the title of one of the chapters also

  • I love bowie since 1972.

  • Amazing Lou Reed looks like a middle aged man with a back problem. Bowie on the other hand, this could be him in 1972!!

  • HAHA Bowie starts cracking up when Reed begins to sing....

  • He wasn't cracking up, he was smiling.

  • Lou Reed was awful--totally out of it--but I think Bowie's vocals were awesome.

  • The drummer sucks - totally uninspiring - but great electric guitar and adequate vocals.

  • Lou Reed was completly in another place, he was awfull. Case to say: "ohh god, I could better than that"

  • Cute couple!

  • Oh my god!!! I love this video! Bowie and lou reed!!! They are gods!!!

  • What is the name of the DVD this is off of?

  • baxter is a moron

  • lou reed has the best jew fro ever

  • nuh uh, Bob Dylan has the best jewfro eva!

  • hear hear

  • wtf? this is a big let down. Neither of them sings it very well. Bowie at least hits more than one note.

  • not the same without mick trev and woody good but just dunt sound the same

  • freak out far out

  • lou reed is ultimate cool, anyone with any emotional intelligence would see that..... Bowie's pretty cool too !! they are both awesome

  • He's LOU f'ing Reed. Who cares what he looks like?

  • you bloody lou reed fans take yourselves far too seriously. reality check-he made Metal Machine Music after all.

  • reality check - you sound like my 10-year-old girl - "oooo, he's ugly". He made a lot of good albums too. And Bowie made some hideous ones.

  • But mostly Bowie made excellent ones

  • That just f 'n rocks.

  • ooo wazsiss for??

  • Bowie's 50th

  • dioooooooos me encanta

  • reed looks like an ogre lol

  • Lou Reed + David Bowie = heaven

  • ask bruce if he is a lou fan...ill bet he is...

  • oh my god! they should invade eachothers' stages more often.

  • what's up woth the audio? nice vid, otherwise.

  • why was this spammed?

i want a video tombstone lol

  • aaaaaaaaamazing.

  • best in world fuck em all

  • I love how Lou Reed's verse sounded like it could have been a VU or a Lou Reed song. That's nice.

  • Lou sux at the beginning of his verse, but David takes right over.

  • Look at Bowie, he looks like he has so much fun when he plays this song especially.

  • My my Mr.Reed... what a mighty tight shirt you have on there. A lil' Queer dontchayathink?

  • I can only speak for myself but I have absolutely nothing against a good looking, hot guy in a tight shirt. What's supposed to be queer about that? I'm a woman and it makes a nice shirt to perve on the body underneath.

Anyway, what would be wrong with queer?

  • Apparently nothing, being that I am gay.

  • Alright, that means we can both perve ;)

  • not exactly, I'm a girl :P

  • LOL! Can't win can I?

  • Bowie and Lou, they match perfectly well between themselves.

  • increible tema, increibles ellos dos

  • =) :D B)

DB rocks!Love to see him and Lou and the band performing this great song and having so much fun together

  • Two legends on stage, but Andy Warhol was right: Lou Reed is too boring on the microphone.
