I love when bowie, despite the fact it was his own audience, in the matter of deffending his all time friend and master lou said them "KING OF NEW YORK HIMSELF, MISTER LOU REED"
Lou Reed, a former heroin user, looks great. Cheek Marin won a knowledge contest on TV's Jeopardy. Hugh Hefner, not an advocate of temperance, looks great at 84 and his 24-year-old wife looks even better! Mick Jagger can still wow stadium sized audiences in his mid-Sixties. Maybe we should just say yes. Maybe Oscar Wilde was correct. "The best way to resist temtation is to yield to it, After all, it's not temtation at all but oportunity."
cant see who the guitar player is, I'm betting it's Reeves Gabrel. I can't stand his sound, he's not an bad player but he didn't suit Bowie's older stuff at all.
That's cool, if your ear thinks it sounds the same then that's good...enjoy. But as a guitar player of many years, I can assure you that it doesn't sound like the record. I think I gave my reasons in my previous comment. Read the other comments on here slagging it off...it's not just me.
Yeah me too. My favourite look of his is this one photo in the booklet of the remastered edition of Hunky Dory that my mum's got. He's got long blond hair which is cool but the best bit is his shirt. It's sort of loose and it just looks really cool.
This is the best version ever of this song because Last Exit To Brooklyn was set in New York an Lou is closer into that which gives this version more energy
There's a huge difference between this version and the original. Somehow the overdrive effect has been switched to massive distortion and Bowie's British accent has clearly faded away to a more American one. This is therefore not my favorite version :(
verb (used without object), verb (used with object), tat⋅ted, tat⋅ting. to do, or make by, tatting.
1 : a small protein produced by a lentivirus (as HIV) within infected cells that greatly increasesthe rate of viral transcription and replication and that is also secreted extracellularly where it plays a role in increasing viral replication in newly infected cells and in enhancing thesusceptibility of T cells to infection called also tat protein
Obviously not, but the guy said "try a dictionary". So I did. The definition that he said would be there was not ( I tried several.). That is what I found. I am not Dustin Hoffman, nor his character from Rain Man.
you gotta know how to consult it... words change their meanings in history and time and different places, think about 'fags': it's not necessarily 'cigarettes' ;)
anyway, doesn't matter. let's listen once again to this pearl and these two heroes.
I agree. You do realize that I know how to consult a dictionary, right? and that I understand etymology and the evolution of language, right? and that you have stated the obvious back to me as if I didn't know it, right? and that I am not a crazy "rain man", right? and that "fags" is not really a great example, because a modern dictionary will have all of the definitions of that word (old and new), whereas I listed every definition that I found for "tat" and there was nothing about lace.
GREAT collaboration of Bowie's pure enchantment and Lou Reed's sheer power -- but I always wondered, whatever is this "bibberty-bobberty hat" of which The Gentleman sings? What sort of hat would that be?
I agree with you... never rated Reeves Gabrel, thought he just made a load of screeching noise. To think he played with Bowie for so many years.... just shows how lazy Bowie can be. Ronson RIP.
Too bad Lou couldn't bother to memorize one freakin' verse! I thought he wouldn't sing at all, and then he's got to sneak peaks at the music stand! Should have followed it up with "Vicious."
Well I know how old he is and how his voice sounds normally and I simply thought it sounds more raspy (or whatever you'd call it) in this video. But well doesn't really matter, does it?
"that thing" (as you call her) is Gail Ann Dorsey. She is one of the best touring bass players who has worked with lots of huge acts. Nothing too flash .. she can riff out but she is tight in the pocket. She can also sing. I saw Bowie in France a few years ago from the side of the stage and she was ripping it up! Respect!
I can only speak for myself but I have absolutely nothing against a good looking, hot guy in a tight shirt. What's supposed to be queer about that? I'm a woman and it makes a nice shirt to perve on the body underneath.

tat is an old word for lace (try a dictionary) Satin and tat = satin and lace. Simple really.
hunterlancer 2 years ago
verb (used without object), verb (used with object), tat⋅ted, tat⋅ting. to do, or make by, tatting.

2 : the viral gene that codes for the tat protein

Trying a dictionary makes it anything but simple, seeing that they list many things, but nothing about lace.

Tat is short for tatty (tattered). So satin & tat is sort of another term for shabby chic.
