  • i have a thoughbred and i use him in the hunter ring if you give him like a integrity instead of grain it benifits them more and also if he starts shaking his head and playing that is a good sign beacuse that means hes happy but he might have grown out of that already also if you put a bit of cooking oil in there feed that helps keep their coat health wich makes them alot happyer also it helps to do lots of tranistions when ridding to get them to wrok with their hind end just saying

  • why did you have to put him down? :(

  • I barrel gamed with a Thoroughbred aswell! I'm telling he can do real well, you just need to teach him how to use his hind end more so then if you had a QH & teach him a signal to bolt. That helped alot with me. We placed a handful of times in barrels, but he excelled in Pole Bending, especially being off the track, he should know automatic leads, try it out! P.S. Circle him a few times in the ring before passing the clock to get his momentum going, Tb dont excelerate as fast as a QH

  • @luckyappy yea thanks but i just had to out him down on the 15th :[

  • woot, go boy go. tb can so barel race, i know two who love it. my tb may not turn that well, but he covers that ground, does the key hole with the best, and wins everytime when it comes to straight up speed even though he is trained for jumping and eventing.

  • Don't mean to be mean or hurtful, really, but don't you think a thoughbred would be a faster runner? I mean he may be just not on barrels

  • @maddie09513 well he is lol look at his new runs his was his 1st ever race now hes super consistant and good check out the new videos

  • @maddie09513 you would think bc its a thoughbred he would be faster BUT throughbreds arent bred for this type of racing they're bred for distance how long they can run and building up speed. Just like quater horses arent bred for racing on tracks they're bred to run fast in a short amount of time and distance as well as have good balance. But this horse doesnt look half bad :)

  • Congrats on your horse I have one also. He looks good just keep having fun it will take you far.

  • I really don't get what the big deal is a horse is a horse they are good at what ever you take the time to train them for. And as far as TB's not being good for barrels that is crazy any horse can barrel race. I have been barrel racing for years and have used both a quarter horse and a TB they both do well. Just cause TB's have long legs means nothing other than a bigger pocket but they can also cover more ground between barrels with little effort. I those who feel TB's arent good are wrong!!!!!

  • PonygirlBrooke123 ok thats nice 2 know now u can fit in with the rest of us lol.... conversation over hop off my video lol no 1 cares

  • why are you so excited he is a throughbred. Not a big deal?

  • @blueandelvis13 it is a big deal because every1 says they cant do it... lol so 2 me it is thanks :]

  • @PonygirlBrooke123 Oh and FYI you just mad eyourself sound even more stupid! Where the hell do you see me riding a TB? I race TBs as in I am a jockey..and we run a mile or so.. God your stupid. Oh and I dont barrle race anymore I do reining/cutting/roping/etc..everything but that

  • @PonygirlBrooke123 Well some of the best barrle horses happen to be TB's and their legs are fine! They are not like glass. I have no clue what makes you think that.

  • @PonygirlBrooke123 I wish you knew what you were talking about so that you wouldnt sound stupid! =D

  • @bridlelessgirl lol thank you dang i take the best care of my horses and my horse can handel it ponygirl..... do what u want and ill do thingd my way lol

  • @rushstreetrunnin I am sure you do. She has been "riding" her whole life..but I call BS on that. I suggest she stays away from stuff she she dsont know a thing about.

  • @bridlelessgirl lol i know these people need 2 get a life my horses are well taken care of and his legs are just fine... all theses people who say they have been ridding there whole life should get a clue just because u ride dosent mean u know the anatomy of a horse lol

  • @rushstreetrunnin I have been riding my whole life and I have paid a large amount of money to go to school to learn about horses! I will tell you what..I leanr something new every day. No one will ever know "everything"

  • @bridlelessgirl i know theres alot more then what meets the eye... :] atleast u and me can agree lol these ppl just need 2 worry about there own animals because i can take care of my own and every little thing i call the vet out i dnt take chances with my horses i love them to much...

  • Thuroghbred? It is spelled Throughbred......

  • @barbaroluvr i know omg levae it be ppl

  • wow he did really good! great job with him :)

  • @91jetfire aw thanks lol he has gotten much better and i lov him... hes such a good boy :]

  • @rushstreetrunnin im thinking of getting a thoroughbred from an adoption center to train as a jumper. hope it works out! lol

  • @91jetfire well good luck!!! there the best they know we are there to help them not hurt them!

  • Sure, Thoroughbreds have the speed needed, but there's two things I don't like about them: they're not real bendy, and most of them nowadays are fine-boned, which I don't think is real good for such a strenuous event like this.

  • @BarrelsPolesandJack well some r like this... luckly mine isent

  • @rushstreetrunnin Uh-huh.

  • @rushstreetrunnin Uh-huh.

  • @BarrelsPolesandJack now wats that supposed 2 mean?... if you dnt know my horse dnt talk... :]

  • @rushstreetrunnin Just replying. Don't get your knickers all in a knot.

  • @BarrelsPolesandJack well thats a funny reply...

  • @BarrelsPolesandJack well thats a funny reply....

  • @rushstreetrunnin ...aaaaand your point?

  • @BarrelsPolesandJack - Well said, I've trained many of them and the only thing I really find them good at is English work such as jumping as well as for any non competitors everyday riding needs. Barrel racing is indeed to strenuous for them and their pockets never get as sharp as a stock bred or part stock bred horse. They are bred to run but not quick sharp turns. Also tried training for Western Pleasure, uh, that's not very successful either.

  • And don't get me wrong, I've owned and loved TB's, but they just aren't very flexible for specialties.

  • @DeathByPurpleUnicorn I can imagine so. I've got a mare that's got some Thoroughbred in her, but she's also got Quarter horse and paint in her, too. She had a lot of promise on the barrels before she got hurt last week. Luckily, though, there's a chance she may actually be ridable again. We'll just have to wait and see.

  • @BarrelsPolesandJack - That's not good, hope she heals up nicely and soon! Glad there's a chance she can still be ridden too.

  • @DeathByPurpleUnicorn thanks alot :]

  • I love this! "its not always the breed of horse its the heart to be a champion" I have an 8yr off-track TB that is 16.3 hands which I've trained in barrel racing. She does amazing at them and tries so hard! She is able to snap her body around the barrel. Right now I have her at 18.496 sec (LA Fair) and we keep dropping with every race. Great run! Keep up the great work! Let's prove TB's can barrel race :)

  • @GrizzlyGrl yes lol we have to stick together with our tb.s

  • Are TB's easy to run barrels?

    Are they smooth?

    thanks!

  • lol yes well atleast mine is, mine is more like a qh his build idk how but even my vet says so. and once they get into the grove of it they are pritty smooth.

  • depends on the horse, QH's are the horse that is primarily used because they are so versatile. But it just mainly depends on the training, and how you use your hands to depend on how "smooth" they are. :) anymore questions or tips needed just let me know :)

  • If your looking for a barrel horse , I would skip out on the TB's... They have long legs and that makes it hard for them to rate properly. Plus its hard for them to get those legs under them while coming out of the pocket. IMO

  • Do you do slow work with him??

  • i started with some slow work but as his turns got better i pushed him more. i will have to put a new video of him he is running 15 and 16 secounds now. try to go around the barrel a few times and keep bringing your horse closer. they are better then what ppl say it just takes a little more time to get there turns tight. and the write team as in horse and rider have a bond it helps. just try lifting straight up on the rein and bit that way the head comes up and the but tucks.

  • I dont need help with my horse, but thanks lol. But do you like walk patterns, teach him rate etc?? if not it might help make your runs snappier and faster

  • oh lol no my horse was out of shape as well when i got him he wasent ridden in 2 years and i only ride on the weekends.

  • if you ride more, and teach your horse to rate the barrels, same distance around etc it will make your runs much better

  • well done by the way! hehe

  • thanks alot he is amazing, when he wants to be lol!!!

  • Im sure he will be :)

  • i got my tb off the track as a four year old and we trained him to event (which he does really well) and every now and then my riding club does games, and he is super at barrel racing. he loves it! just because people say a horse is bred for a certain discipline, doesnt mean they cant do other things... warmbloods are now the choice for eventers and they are bred for dressage...

  • i got my thoroughbred off of the track too and she is a smaller thoroughbred and we had a trainer and now she barrel races and excels at it, she had the speed thing down pat it was just learning the turning and the pocketing and she got amazingly and now she acts just like my gelding quarter horse which is my team penner so i totally agree with you on that cause i compete with my thoroughbred mare in barrel racing now as of this summer and we have done extremely well!

  • yes! lol everyone labels ther horses barrel, jumping, and other things. but its the horse having the heart to compete.

  • thoroughbreds are not BRED to barrel race. they are bred for speed over long distances but this does not mean they can not barrel race. I have a 14 y/o OTTB and it took forever to teach her to turn but she is amazing now. your doing good

  • thanks alot i no it took me a while but now he can swing a barrel like mad lol. keep an eye out for new videos of him and my new quarter horse!!!!! he is gorgeous lol

  • @RajahAndRochelle thoroughbreds ar ebred to run and barrel racing is running.... i barrel race with a appaloosa x thoroughbred.

  • so they r really good at barrel racing ??because i have a ex race horse and i want 2 do barrel with him but theres people saying thouroghbreds cant barrel race which i think the breed doe'nt matter either but i wanted some opinions but any ways i think they would do better since they love to run and they r fast enough and they dont get 2 spokey cuz they r use 2 kids running around the race tracks

  • hi there.lol and yes if you have the patiants to work with them. my thorobred can turn a barrel like a quarter horse now and this video gives him no justice. this was only his secound time running. i will post more videos soon. try your hardest to have pacients with your thorobred. it takes a little time to get there turns brought in.

  • Cute horse! I wanna teach the 7 year old ex racehorse I ride at the ranch I work at to barrel race. But first we gotta teach him to stop lol. ;p

  • thanks so much . for the bit go to tractor supply and there is a combanation bit that in the middle has a dog bone. and the nose pice is very hard. it worked so well on my horse. it was 70 dollers but the best 70 ive ever spent lol.

  • Ahhh he's gorgeous! I'm training a Tennessee walker to barrelrace.

  • thanks alot i love him he is the best horse i have. lol to me its not all about breed but the heart and the team work to become champions.

  • thoroughbreds can to barrel race i race with my six year old and he's an ex-racehorse

  • it only took me 6 days to trai him thurobreds are very bright. and the long sprints home is when our horses really show there stuff. lol just keep workin at the turns.

  • sorry but thoroughbreds cant berral race!!!!!!!!

  • well oh well mine is living proof that they can so yea, and he is very quick at them but this was only his 2nd race!

  • @805nikki059 almost every bArrel horse I know is a thoroughbred an thats because they love to run...... wow I can't believe someone actually said what you did.

  • does it realy matter. you either like the video or you dont. not to be rude but its true.

  • he is gorgeous!
