  • I really enjoyed this one, it went on perhaps for a little too long but incredibly atmospheric in the first part of the programme.

  • OMFG what the HELL are they doing with that cat?! Seriously!!! 6:50

  • Thanks so much for uploading this, as I only have a poor copy of it ... anyone who may not watch this through to the end will miss out on an ending thats likely to stay with them for sometime...

  • they really got the senes so right in this... each scene is like a painting from the period..that older man with the white head band..could almost be rembrandt himself..i had to still it to appreciate it even more lol...its obvious they went to a great deal of trouble to get this so true to period...wonderful!

  • does anyone remember a series called leap in the dark?

    cant find it anywhere

  • "Turn from the light."

What a beginning sentence - so apt! I was in my teens also when I saw this, and it's haunted me ever since. Wish I could find it on DVD.

  • Probably, along with the MR James Christmas ghost stories, THE MOST disturbing thing the BBC made in the 1970's. I was 16 when I first saw this, and it chilled me to the bone. It does not shy away from the original tale's necrophiliac tone; in fact, it embraces it. This imbues the whole with a tangible darkness that is almost repellant - but you have to keep watching, even though you don't really want to. Is it good though? Hell, yeah!
