There are multiple reasons what make this mix so epic.

1. Both songs came out in the 80s

2. Both songs were about th same subject of surviving through life and searching for freedom and acceptance of all races.

3. Both songs fit together in the proper key and flow together smoothly and are very catchy.

@RockoJulian I'm going to throw in a 4th reason. "Shout" was, at least in part, a protest against he US placing missiles in the UK pointed at the USSR. Where did the US cut money from to buy a bunch of kiss-your-ass-good bye weapons? That's right, folks. My jerk government cut from social programs, the effects of which can be heard in "The Message." One problem never stays one problem. (And yes, this is a little simplistic of a summary.)
