Good shout goes to show that some magicians just aint what they appear!! In short he's a complete fake. Sadly all this sort of crap kills magic in general. Why cant people just be honest! He probably got a shit load of money for this cheap stunt and lets me honest its nothing more than some fancy editing which a few years ago wasnt possible to do on your home PC. Im a card magician for nearly 30 years nothing but a real deck of cards thats the only way.
"17 seconds" video here: (youtube won't let me post a link). If you time it, it does take 17 seconds, but twelve seconds sounds scarier, so they dubbed that in.
In a different vid of this stunt when he asks the "time?!?" the guy says "17 seconds" in most others he says "12 seconds", yet in an interview Lance said they only did one take. which is it Lance? 1 take or 2, or indecisive editing?
Of course it's fake. If it was an escape he could perform, he would have had an audience. But he can only do this stunt via video trickery. To believe it is real just because you saw it on TV is the height of stupidity. I have the video editing software to splice two videos on my wimpy laptop. It is not tough.

The camera angles chosen allow for easy editing (they forgot about those pesky shadows). Notice they left the view from inside the coaster out of the final edit. Why would they do that? It would have the best view (but also the toughest to edit).

The person who made this video is mentally impaired. You can see his shadow the entire time, even just as he jumps from the track on the yellow bars in real time. You also see the shadow in the slow motion replays. The only thing edited was the motion on the roller coaster, in which everyone knows the only large drop is the very first one before diving into the tunnel. The editing you see here with the exact twist in turns is on purpose to build tension, nothing more. I've ridden it many times

Well, there are like 10 cuts in the video so it is pretty obvious that he is not doing the escape while the rollercoaster is rolling towards him. You´re just arguing that the very last part (starting at 3:00) is also edited and not a stunt, which really doesn´t make that much of a difference.

I'm not saying it wasn't faked, but he's sitting at a completely different angle when this first points out that his shadow has moved, and depending how high the sun was above him and the bars of the scaffolding and tracks, it could easily be missed. Also if it's a camera-trick it's an incredibly impressive one for 1994 or whenever.

My assessment is that basically Lance recorded himself escaping without the train going (the shot where the train IS moving with him escaping in the foreground the train is on the lift hill, where it can easily be stopped before it drops down the hill) then a pro stuntman did the jumping off the tracks just in time shots, and then they cut it together in the editing room. Fairly simple and very safe.
I do see that as he jumps, the shadows on the rail dont move, implaying that they are not being cast by him, but by other things in the scene. Well spotted.
i'm sot saying its real, but if you look at moment 3:05-3:06 you can see the shadows everyone keeps talking about except it shows up on the yellow crossbar of the coaster not the scaffolding. If you look close you can also see that shadow moves and is cast by his legs.

However, the shadows don't seem to prove anything to me. He changes position, the shadows change position. So far, there's been nothing shown that proves it was faked.
He is leaning forward, he isn't upright, he is leaning forward, that is why there is no shadow... smarty... PS If they used split screen his shadow would be there till the roller coaster got there, that wasn't a split screen mistake, I use split screen for this type of stuff constantly.

Seems to me that the shadows aren't falling on the scaffolding behind him because he's leaning forward. Every time we do see them behind him, he's leaning backwards or actually laying almost on top of the scaffolding.
And when the shadow disappears? I think that's because he's actually flying through the air at that point. Might look better if you use frame by frame rather than full stops.
Not saying it wasn't faked, but if you have something more convincing, post it.

All the way through, he casts a shadow on the scaffolding... until the rollercoaster appears !!!
Then:
a) Even though he leaps into the air (higher than he ever was), he no longer casts a shadow behind him
b) He doesn't even cast a shadow '''ONTO''' the rollercoaster as it passes behind him !!!

But yet we're kidded into thinking he is in mid-air... inches away from being killed.
His shadow doesn't 'move', it 'disappears' & that's impossible in that light

I'm not going to comment on whether this was faked or not. I have no idea.
However, the shadows don't seem to prove anything to me. He changes position, the shadows change position. So far, there's been nothing shown that proves it was faked.

Mid-way during the video, he's leaning forward, & still casting a shadow on the scaffolding...
But when he leaps up, he's even higher, but not casting a shadow on the scaffolding platform, or the rigging below it...
How easy to uderstand does this video have to be???

hes not upright he is leaning forward which means there is no shadow on the platform its under it

He is leaning forward, he isn't upright, he is leaning forward, that is why there is no shadow... smarty... PS If they used split screen his shadow would be there till the roller coaster got there, that wasn't a split screen mistake, I use split screen for this type of stuff constantly.

that is all you have... a good explanation; I mean it seemed back at the point of "shadows" no longer behind there something seemed odd, yes... but its crappy proof... LOOK THERE SHOULD BE BLOCKED SUN!!! ITS NO LONGER BLOCKED lame

Freeze-Frame at 2mins 35 secs.
He's leaning forward, & very low, but he still casts a shadow on the scaffolding behind...
but when he sits up & leaps in the air, he doesn't.
Also, freeze at 3mins 6 seconds.
His shadow is on the yellow cross-track, right up to the rollercoaster overshooting it....
and compare that to how it disappears from another angle, at 3 mins 47 seconds.
It's subtle errors, rather than obvious, otherwise the world would have twigged by now.

Seems to me that the shadows aren't falling on the scaffolding behind him because he's leaning forward. Every time we do see them behind him, he's leaning backwards or actually laying almost on top of the scaffolding.
And when the shadow disappears? I think that's because he's actually flying through the air at that point. Might look better if you use frame by frame rather than full stops.
Not saying it wasn't faked, but if you have something more convincing, post it.

There's even more editing errors than those highlighted here...
(I'm beginning to think even his pigeons are faked with special-effects)
