Her Majesty was a strong, brave woman, and a true queen. She was also loyal to her family, staying by her husband's side when she could have escaped to safety. She is my ideal person because of how well she handled everything in her life, and I wish I could have the strength of character that she did. God Bless Marie-Antoinette, Vive la Reine!
That barbarism sparked freedom around Europe and was directly inspired by the American Revolution against Monarchy and Royal domination. Americanism, democracy, and republic rule were legitimized because of that barbarism. Marie Anntoinette had pretty dresses, but she did nothing for freedom. That is what a leader is supposed to do...encourage freedom.
No one argues about freedom and democracy; it was the way the French had theirs! They could have exiled Their Majesties; but NO, execution. THAT murder of their sovereigns opened the doors to the reign of terror and the genocide in the Vendee. FACT, not fiction!
@papermermaid NO! You are wrong. Queen Marie Antoinette was Queen of France; her duty was to the King and to provide an heir to the throne of France. THAT is what Queen consorts did in 18th century Europe. The King set policy; NOT the Queen.
Queen Marie Antoinette is my favorite historical character. she has been so misunderstood!!! to those interested in reading about this iconic woman, i recommend Antonia Fraser's THE JOURNEY: Marie Antoinette.
Well, I don't know about Antoinette, but when I was somewhere around 3 or 4, I got lost while my mother was shopping on Rodeo Drive. Frantic, my mom & dad are looking for me everywhere, when suddenly they see me coming toward them, hand-in-hand with a well-dressed,older lady. "Your little boy looked like he was lost", she said, "I was going to take him home". The lady was Norma Shearer! R.J.
@Poldark3 She was young, beautiful and inspiring but thrown into the position of leadership that she was ill equipt to handle as well as the man who was to become king at that time. Its too bad she became a symbol of the French Revolution , I mean all that was unfair. THere were many books writen about her and what happened , in history it was the late 1700s, that really isn't that far off if you think about it. History repeats itself so its a good idea to study it.
She was such a fascinating woman, deeply misunderstood, I feel. Love Norma Shearer as well!

God Bless and Keep Her Most Christian Majesty, Queen Marie Antoinette. A prayer for her, the King and all the victims of barbarism and violence.

@fairgirl7, that is what I thought. Exile would have been merciful. (I thought of Canada.) The guillotine was too much.

This version is the better. It is more realistic from the fashion (some Hollywood influence) to the dialog.
