It was either that or switch pokemon. Quick Attack was the only other viable attack in that situation, and it would have done even less damage...IF it would even work. Giratina is a ghost type and immune to quick attack.

the reason why is because that was the only move that could hurt giratina with swellow. swellow had endeavor and quick attack which dosent work on ghost type pokemon like giratina. so he did wig attack and psychic

maybe you're referring to the Gastly family wherein they are partly Poison type, which are weak against psychic types.
