It is very easy to blame EVERYONE else for this whole ex-gay thing, but lets examine the truth. Some people simply DO NOT want to be gay. For some, everyone in their life can be 100% supportive, but it still kills them to know that they live outside the "norm". What exactly do these types of people have to "fix" what they believe is wrong with them? The two options are to try ex-gay counseling or to tie up a rope around their neck. I welcome ex-gay counseling compared to the alternative.
It does work. Homosexuals have to learn to accept that their behavior is of mental origin. Then they will be able to figure out how to cure themselves.
well I'm gay and was brought up Christian. I prayed, begged to be straight. I tried to stop my thoughts, shamed myself, felt disgusting. It doesn't work. As of 20 years ago it was a mental illness, they tried shock therapy, psychotherapy, behavioural therapy, hypnosis, torture, prayer it DOESN'T work. because it's not a disease. it's all nice to say 'just fix it' but you can't. it's basically impossible. I mean, why don't you try to turn gay? i can guarantee you'll fail.
Most people develop their sexuality as teenagers, and once you're ruined, it's indeed hard to get your mind fixed, but it's definitely possible. Lot's of gay hate the way they are, but they don't try to do anything about it.
Let's turn the situation around. Could YOU become gay? Suppose everyone around you was gay and pushing you to become gay, making you go through ex-straight programs, and suppose you eventually succeed in acting gay and become gay to everyone's eyes. That's definitely possible. But wouldn't you still be straight inside no matter what? Don't you think that would torture you?
Yeah, this must be why King James I, King Richard II, Alexander the Great, Socrates, Rob Halford, George Takei, and Elton John are all bumbling idiots.
Not to mention that you're telling this to someone with a 120-ish IQ, and likely yourself have an IQ roughly equivalent to the sine ratio of that. 0.866, if you're too lazy to use a calculator.
People like you are the scourge of society, not homosexuals.
You can not go from gay to straight. However, you can chose not to act on your gay thoughts and desires. You should only do that if you want to do so for you not for anyone else. I also grew up Christian and gay. I gave up being Christian and I don't act on my gay thoughts and desires either.
Gay people do not HAVE to do anything they do not wish to do. Ex-gay is an alternative, and lets be honest, it doesn't work. Show me one case where it honestly works (where you can go from gay to straight). YOU CAN NOT GO FROM GAY TO STRAIGHT. What you can do is spend a life of solitude, and you have the right to do that. You will NEVER change the attraction, you can only change the behavior associated with that attraction (by choosing not to act on it).
@galefan2004 You can not change it................God has to change it! I have been ex-gay for over a year after heavy involvement in the lifestyle. As far as choosing not to act on it? The fact that you said choosing is accurate .......Does a ex-convict think about convictions? An ex-alcholic about alcohol? Having a propensity for something doesnt dictate who one is. Further more one has to examine the origin of sexuality......If you are coming "out"? You must have been somewhere else!
No one HAS to accept any part of themselves THEY wish to change. I'm totally against ex-gays recruiting people into the movement, but if someone wants to try to change for themselves, and not for anyone else, then they should buy into the fact that it is possible. Simply telling them they have to accept being gay is passing judgment. Gay people tend to be the most judgmental people I have ever met in my life. If you don't fit their little stereotype of what you should be you get judged for it.
The man in this video, is NOT an "ex gay". He is being deceitful. This "ex gay" title is fake. He wants to wheel you in, and finally convince you that it's OK with God to be gay. This man is still gay, and has excepted his homosexual ways, while compromising it with Christianity. He is claiming to be a christian, but perhaps he ignored these two bible verses (Read 1 Cor 6:9-11 & for a explanation, why it's WRONG to be gay, read Romans 1:21-27) DO NOT BE DECEIVED
Its not that gays are not accepting being gay, its that other people staring in that deems it a sin. It is the same for a kid that is fat or for a girl that is too skinny. It is the same for having a broken family or a wholesome family. People will always pick at faults and point fingers to lessen their guilt. Their own shame for also being a sinner.
You know, I think I understand now why anti-gay people associate being gay with promiscuity. It's b/c they hear about all of these gay men suppressing who they really are, and getting married to women. So basically the only outlet they have is to go off and have secret one-night stands w/ other men. If they were able to accept themselves, this wouldn't happen, b/c they'd be out seeking long term relationships with other men.
So... basically what these anti-gay ppl need to realize is that THEY are the ones to blame for this. They make this claim that they are for protecting "family values", but in reality it's quite the opposite. Forcing gay men to act straight results is the destruction of families, not the other way around...
thank you for faithfully sharing your story, eric, a story that can be told by far too many of us. may we diligently work together to make a difference.
