  • what channel is that on disc? My aunts in that show grubbing the boats in the beginning

  • Same as deadliest catch, tuesday night

  • no vids from this season yet?

  • Please watch, 'The Truth About Bottom Trawling' on Youtube

  • Before you bitch about my industry maybe you should look into it a little more. We now have closed areas and there a thousands of nautical miles designated for marine wildlife no one can fish in. Just because u had one bad experience working on a fishing vessel doesn't mean there all that way.

  • I didn't doing any 'bitching' here, I just like to explore the facts and draw from myown experience, My biased opinion and yours maybe poles apart, I simply try to see where the truth ls, When I dive for scallops they are selected by hand without disturbing anything around them, I can see the sea bed and I know what trawling does to it, whether it is subtainable or not I will leave to the experts, I honestly don't know, but I do care enough not to be blinkered, I work at sea & I care 4 it.

  • fish on

  • @oldskoolchopperboy That video is bullshit.

  • @Goofus5453

    how is it bs?

  • @oldskoolchopperboy That video is horseshit.

  • great video, i fished for the ingrande family out of fairhaven tuna seining and made a couple scollop trips. ive been in alaska the past 5 years now longlining halibut , cod, and seining for salmon. i do miss the east coast at times, but alaska is amazing.

  • u use nets to pick those things up huh?

  • Bob Dylan is a douche bag so my video is muted. He owes me money for the concert i went to last year bec it was so fucking horrible.

  • Man. I love watching this video ever soo often. Makes me want to go commercial fishing even more. F**ken youtube f**ks everything up by muting these sounds now. Unreal.

  • woops my bad man that was faw125 saying that. yeah the lightship is sweet, fuck those yellow tails tho they need to open it up more. scallops are dieing of old age down there

  • christ 3 days for 400lbs in the wild? it would take us 24hours of fishing to get 400lb off nauset maybe you guys should check it out. btw im only telling you this cause we're not scalloping anymore since NMFS is cutting our 2010 IFQ down by 52% to 20k#'s so we sold the gen. cat. fish dragging and sea clamming is all we'll be doing anymore and btw we've also been catching tons of baby scallops in the net so stocks should be booming next few years. good luck out there

  • 3 days for 18000 lbs. where did you get 400 lbs?

  • actually less than 3 days for 18k

  • Awesome vid. I worked on a commercial fishing boat out of maine for a while.. video makes me miss it so bad. You going to make anymore vids?

  • they ,ll clean her bottom i bet

  • Wow you're so wonderful.

  • be safe brother-pt.judith RI

  • the fishermans union here are trying now to have some talks on price for 2009 because of market condition

  • not saying much just admiring the guys cleaing the load i,m a snow crab fisherman from newfoundland i guest there are talk down there of a poor market years ago here when cutting cod to salt people said some guys could split cod that fast they could hit one back bone with the other thats what i meant them crew members can clean fast

  • i guest he can,t shuck,em he can hit one with the other that fast

  • what are you trying to say?

  • Wicked Video Man!!!Take care brother!

  • Oh well, I live in Florida now and the scallops here are like what, 400-500 count? LOL Good luck wit dat Monk Fish, poke some holes in it for me! Yo, and seriously take care out there Monday.

  • You so bad ass dude, climbin' up the rigging with ice all over. F***'n nut case. Awesome video man thanks so much for taking that time. Brings back some memories. We use to take those eels and hang em from the cables, they would bite on to it and hang there for a while. Funny sh*t too. Put a deck hose in the monk's mouth, wait till it fills up and poke some holes in it with fillet knife. Looks like a lawn sprinkler!!! Take care out there.

  • hahaha shit thats funny ill try that this monday with the monk. thanks for the comment.

  • You bet. I miss chasing that meat sometimes. Not very salty myself but my father and two uncles were life long scallopers. They were the ones that got me into it when I was 17. I made my last trip back in '05 when labor was getting cheaper by the Mexican. I actually left a boat when they wanted to only pay the Mexi's 1/2 shares. That was F*cked up. Those guys worked thier asses off and deserved full shares, we argued with the Capt and got the boot for it, shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

  • sweet vid , i longline tuna in nz .

  • thanks i love tuna sashimi mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • i scallop fished in western australia for 14 years, schucking with a slightly different method, that video reminded me why i dont do it any more

  • oh yeah were in west oz did you fish im a crayfisherman from wedge isaland just past lancelin

  • Couldn't agree more - reminds me of extreme washing up!

  • I never really thought about this industry, thanks ya!!!

  • cool video, keep it up!

  • We have quite a few boats from home run up to New Bedford every scallop season.

  • thats my dad n fiances job!woohoo

  • Awesome.

  • Sweet. I started scalloping out of Gloucester back in 1980. Been making my living on the sea ever since.

  • great vid new regs comin make it while u can

  • want to go to the cannel for a rock show and get stoned?!?!?! nice boulders. cant beat the nantucket lightship though. nice looking boat to.

  • Pretty gnarly, love me some scallops

  • nice....where youall fishin....what kinda rig you got

  • I fish out of Point Judith RI, on an offshore lobster boat, 88 foot converted shrimping rig from Louisiana. Good times!

  • now we know why they cost $22 a lb!!

  • i worked a scallop dredger when i was younger, memories!! nice work. love the monk!

  • I a m a Scalloper From N.J.Good Job on this! It's a Great Job But,the Days are gettin fewer!I've been doin it for thirty years!!

  • do you know y the days are gettin shorter, and iam not just talking about the change in regulations.?

  • its gettin shorter cuz your not gettin as many locally like they were. used to be you could get your 400 lbs in 8 hours now its takin as long as 3 days n its not worth goin out as often or putten in the time to get em. its a shame

  • where do u fish out of that you cant catch 400lbs in less than 3 days?

  • i fish out of nj and we do a 400lb day trip in 9 hours

  • Cool video. My Dad was captain of a scalloper in Fairhaven for many years. He would have liked this video.

  • good job, but hears a little tip...when your scallopin use a steel table to land your drag on, hinge it to your washbord and put your picking hook on it adn after you dump ur drag on it and set it over you lift ur hook and all the trash dumps over bord, no shoveling or however you get ur junk overbord (still havent figured that one out yet) and there is alot less bending over

  • those monkies (monkfish) are nasty lookin as hell but taste good

  • what was the count on that stuff? when we worked nantucket lightship we were on 6 and 7's... those ones looked alot smaller?

  • i dont have any shots of the lightship meats but we were working on 7 count.

  • nice video, im scallopin south of long island right now. iv heard the nantucket lightship openings are awesome, maybe the boat im workin weill head up there one day. we are just a day tripper

  • And cobblestones. Stay away from the cobblestones..........

  • outside cutter!! =P i like belly cuttin better

  • There is some tuff bottom in the western channel a lot of rocks and boulders.

  • FAS..the best!!! Yah you can pick up some pretty wild looking creachers of the deep draging for scallops; tough work for sure..what was that?? some bolders you picked up also???

  • Awesome vid! people always ask me what it's like and I have troubl describing it - damn straight i'lljust give em the url for this now instead.

You should see the piles in light ship now!! - nuff to roll the boat if there's an asshole running the gear. 15 minute tow cuts all watch! and those damn turtle chains make it impossible to dump out. I'm sure the tree huggers wont be happy until guys start getting killed under drags. Ain't like those fuckin things save any turtles anyway.

  • no shit how many turtles has anyone seen in the lightship u need to use both takles to dump them out. What boat are you on and where do u fish out of?

  • Our last tow down there, which was on the 7th, was 11 minutes long and there was 24 fishboxes (or totes, as some call them) stuffed into a 8 foot drag. those scallops were stuffed in there some tight. we had to take the time to undo the shackles on the turtle chains so we could dump the drag.

  • its tote holds a bushell and a 1/2 thats a hole bunch for 8 footers. Im done in the lightship this season i made 2 trips one on the venture and one on the edgartown.

  • PRETTY WORK GUYS

  • 30 lbs an hour whats the count? If its anything like we have here you would never get a job on a boat full share . Thanks for you input shacker and when u make your way to full share maybe you can post a video of your lighting speed untill then good luck with 1/2 share down under.

  • judging from the real time speed in format we are very close to the same speed .on good season we go for 4 months 24/7 18 hours aday .a good 24hours we can shuck 2 tonnes aus. but thats a good night with some big bags and everyone goin hard as .

  • i shuck the same as in west oz for 3 months of the year ....scallops shuck faster you cunts ..its all rythem were are you guns now ..weak greenies only 15 kilo an hour herer thanks

  • Superb! I am a Norwegian and I know that a lot of those Norwegians who settled down i America participated in this fishery. It was amazing to see the technique used for cleaning the scallop.

  • My family owns a house on Skudeneshavn down by the sea and when i visit all i do is fish. My grandfather was Norwegian and I fequently go to Norway durring the summers.

  • Maybe I`ll see you in Skudeneshavn this summer. I live on the same island (Karmøy). What I like to do in the summer? The same as you, as long as the weather allowes me to go out with my small boat.

  • good job boys.love the vid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you are the champions... you'd love me and my world too.. weire Brothersss... live long alaskan fisherman,, been there done all that.. too shay.. to youuuu...
