  • I had this one the other day. Decent porter. I expected a little more from Rogue, but like you said, it was a pretty traditional tasting porter. I picked up their Hazelnut Brown Nectar again today. 2 of them to be exact. Had my friend try one. He loved it.

  • Drinking one right now... hmm.. might go good with a PBJ :D

  • For some reason I did not really like the after taste.

  • I haven't tried this one yet, but if you want to try Rogue's porter that sets itself apart, see if you can get a hold of their XS Imperial Porter. I had it on draught and it was amazingly tasty and hits you hard at about 8.5%

  • I will have to look for that one as well. Not sure I have seen it. Thanks for watching.

  • I never tasted a porter would this be a good one two break in with?

  • Sure would! Let me know what you think when you try it. Thanks for watching.

  • Happy New Year!

  • And a Happy and Safe New Year to you as well.

  • good review! Good to see you back reviewing!!

  • Thank you for all your support!!

  • Hey bro. I just wanted to stop by and say that I am a huge fan of your beer reviews and that you should keep what your doing up.

Small request: I think you should do a review for Dales Pale Ale. I want to see what you think about it. Thanks man.

Hope you have a good one.

  • Wow, your in luck. That is the next review I am going to post. So look for it in the next day or two. Thanks for watching.

  • i've never seen/heard anybody but americans mention "smoke" when opening a beer.maybe someone can tell me why this is important to mention in a beer review.

  • Ha-ha, I might have started the whole thing at least on youtube. I know smoke has absolutely nothing to do with the taste of beer or anything else to do with beer other than it looks cool!! And it gives those of us that love beer something to talk about and compare while we consume our beers. So thats it, it's just for looks. Thanks for watching.

  • I'm afraid beer is becoming like wine. It is almost reaching that snob level us beer drinkers teased wine drikers about. I would like the ''share a beer'' show to be renamed "beers to you" or "beers looking at you kid''. Those are my ideas and would like some consideration. Trojans in the Emerald nut bowl vs BC Eagles. Man that is weird.

  • Oh beer is there with wine as far as being "snobbish". And I will have to bring up your suggestions at the next Share A Beer.

  • what's the difference between a porter and a stout?

  • Stouts and porters are so close that some companies call their stouts porters, while others call their porters stouts. Basically a porter uses just roasted malt while a stout uses roasted malt and roasted barley. Thanks for watching.

  • I like the new "format" of the reviews!

Mocha Porter is a solid beer but not outstanding. I've had better Porters but this is a good, everyday drinking beer. I pay about $5/bottle (22oz) for this so it's a decent value.

    Merry Christmas!

  • Thanks Gary and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

  • wow only $5.99 for that beer. i think i pay $7.50. good review.

  • That's a bummer. These beers can add up and every $1.50 counts. Thank you so much for watching Bro and Happy New Year.

  • it sure does. hapy new years to you as well.

  • well right away you know your dealing with a VERY good brewery when a good solid beer is "disapointing" with that said i completly agree, this beer is very...ordinarlly good?...i remember the first time we had this on tap at my work and i was very excited and it ened up being good but not great. rogue makes great beer but they clearly shine with their stouts. great review as always!

currently enjoying: red hook winter hook.

  • I am very glad you understood where I was coming from in my review. I still thought it was a good beer would even buy it again, but it wasn't great. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year to you.

  • easy there nelly

  • Thanks for watching.

  • I wonder if you got an old bottle? When I got a six pack of this the main flavor I got was a very strong citrus/hops flavor. I got just a hint of mocha/porter flavor.

IMO Rogue is known for a very strong hops flavor. All of the Rogue beers I've tried are very hoppy beers, some I've liked some I've not. I love Rogue Chocolate Stout, but I didn't like Rogue Mocha Porter, it was ok, but the hops overpowered the other flavors, and from what i'm told as a beer ages the hop flavor goes down.

  • It could be a older bottle. But I think a lot of it is we all have different tastes and thats why it is important for us to try different beers. Something I like or don't might be something you like or not. Thanks for watching.

  • Great review JoeD. Sometimes I get let down by a favorite brewery, but one thing is always for sure, it's quality ingrediants and that always makes it worth while!

  • You are absolutely right. And quality is what you can count on with Rogue. Happy New Year!!

  • Joe, you gotta try old rasputin from north coast brewing, they sell it at cost plus! its from a northern california brewery, seriously its my favorite beer, and especially my favorite stout!

  • I have heard a ton of good things about this beer. I will have to give it a try. Thanks for watching.

  • happy x-mas

  • Merry Christmas to you as well.

  • Rogue makes some good beer, but I think they're too pricey compared to others.

  • Some of these beer can be pricey. But I have found that price often depends on the store you get them in as well. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year.

  • Nice to see you're starting to get more critical and more in-depth with your reviews.

I still would love to know your secret for getting so many views ;)

PS what happened to your eyebrow?

  • @Chad9976 1700 subscribers is how!

  • Thanks Gary.

  • Thanks for watching. I have no secret. Most people tell me they like my personality and they like that I don't act like a beer snob. I try to be myself a regular blue collar guy that likes beer. And I don't get too far away from that.

I had a pimple that I didn't think people would like to see as close to the camera as I am.

  • @Chad - I would venture to guess that Joe's Stickam shows also have a lot to do with his number of views & subscribers...

  • what happend to your forehead mang

  • Ha-ha, I was wondering who would ask first. It was a pimple that wouldn't stop bleeding and didn't think everyone wanted to see that. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!!

  • Tasty brew. Better value if you find a 6 pack, usually sell for 11.99 around here.

  • Thank you for watching. Happy New Year!!

  • Great to see a new one of your vids before the newyears Joe. Best of wishes and hope to see you again in full health in 2010 (if you dont get that "urge" to make a review before that time).

I have seen most of your vids but come to think of it have never seen you review my staple beer : Mackeson xxx milk stout.

Care to put it on your list ?? Would love your opinion on it.

  • Wow, that beer sounds like a good one. I will have to try it. Thank you for watching and happy new year to you.

  • Good review, homie. I've been meaning to try this for a while now, my local supermarket stocks a few Rogue six-packs (This + Dead Guy & American Amber).

I'm surprised you were disappointed, Rogue brews are usually winners. If I ever get around to trying & reviewing it I hope you don't mind if I post it as a response.

I got a bomber of Rogue's Yellow Snow IPA just waiting to be reviewed... keep an eye out for that vid...

  • Not a problem at all. I welcome responses. So much so that I make it so they post right away without my approval.

  • That looks lucious..mmmmmrrrrrrr

mmm beer.***** happy holidays.. and a safe and beerful 2010

  • Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment

Btw have you ever thought of doing a video about your bottle cap collection? Best looking, most memorable etc.

  • Thanks for watching. I have a short video posted of my cap collection. Oh no I don't I'm sorry I have a pic posted of it on my flickr site. I think I have a link to it on my main page here.

  • Awesome review, man, good to have you back after a few weeks break. Merry Christmas as well, dude.

    -Josh

  • You make me want to drink beer plain and simple. You have a great review style and the way you describe and react to the taste makes me want to go try a new bottle of hoppy goodness.

  • Love the review man.

  • Thanks
