@E19Buck I had that problem when I installed Blender 2.5 first too. The problem for me was that the Blender folder was placed on another hard drive, so I just moved it to the main hard drive and it worked.

@TheMicroMister he says alt left click but it didn't work for me either. I find that plugging in a usb mouse works. because one simple middle mouse (roller) click can do the same rotation. and shift middle mouse pans camera view horizontally.

Guys, press control+alt+u to go to user preferances, then go to the input tab. Then select "emulate 3 button mouse". That lets you do alt left click camera.

@scott12330 you can also click the middle mouse wheels and hold don to move freely and if you have a mac you will need to disable dashboards first all you do is go to terminal and type this in

defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES

then after thats typed in you type in

killall Dock

then when you go back to blender you can press the middle ball and move about the objects freely
