Heard there a great quad for someone just starting to learn how to ride, very managable power not like the race quads that are all torque and full of power. Very basic and plain nothing fancy like efi and gas shocks and stuff. Good stuff man
There is no way that the carbed yfz 450 is quicker throttle response than the new 450r or 450x. Your saying that pouring gas into the motor gets better response then forcing it into the motor. I guarantee a 450r/x will beat a 450 carb
im new to the quad scene and want the 450. i dont if it'll hold my big ass up though. im 6'1" and 230lbs. some of my friends tell me itll hold others say no way.im gonna take it on both track and trails but not air it out to much. would it be cheaper to get the 450 with stiffer springs or op for the 450R?
@deadreaper6986 if you get one, be careful and get gear like a helmet and neck brace...im 230lbs and it will throw you off pretty good, i had a wreck with a helmet on and had to go to the ER for a day...stay safe
in 2012 Yamaha discontinued the X model and made the old YFZ instead so they make both Carbed and Fuel injected in 2012... The R still has way better chassis but the old model YFZ has stronger engine
I don't like the X, and i'd really like an R, because the Long travel suspension, And Fuel Injected so no Jetting, I ride in the dunes and need a new quad, the damn economy dragged my Dads business down and we had to sell our toys,
I see the price on the new 450's, great price and they look fantastic.
@videoman223 The R doesn't have long travel it has the same exact travel as the X it just sits 2 inches wider in the front. The shocks are also exactly the same, so to say you don't like the X is basically saying you don't like standard length a-arms

Now like he said it's fast as he'll I had a 86 quadracer minor work and a stock banshee with fmf pipes and hands down this 2012 model is the shyt for the right price... O btw I rape my boys raptor 700r from start to finish by at least a whole bike ... The holeshot and launch and clutch is perfect... I also have the gtyr slip on my new 2012 yfz 450... Loud as hellllllll!

And for your information the 2012 Yamaha YFZ450 carb verison puts out more power than the 2010. So i think your the stupid one leaving comments when you dont even know what you are talking about.
@ATVRiders2O11 the carb model yfz isn't making more power than the yfz 450r idc if its a 2009 450r the 2012 yfz and 2012 yfz 450r are almost the same for hp but the carbed model yfz is 6,899 and the 450r is 8,599

they upgraded to a 42mm carb from the 04-09 models to compensate from the lost in topend power from the different cam profile. yamaha changed the cam specs to have better low and mid power.
Throw an hmf pipe on there and it should sound real good! ; )
