  • goosebumps everytime i read the words

  • Very nice. It's good they can still keep their culture intact and remain a strong vibrant population. The Spanish invaded Puerto Rico and wiped out the Arawak peoples there (who called themselves Taino). Through disease, violence and intermarriage there are no full-blood Tainos left on Puerto Rico. Some of the polytheism of the Tainos have been incorporated into the Christianity practiced there, however.

  • @shadowseraph78 Actually ... I vacationed in Jamaica about 9 years ago ... the Tainos are still there ... one came up to us declared - we are skins and he recognized us as such -- they only went up (mountains) ... and he said - all of us are still here on all the Islands ... they are still there ... :)

  • @soxmonki well, so much for those damn history books.

  • I'm a maori :3 :)

  • I thank the movie Whale Rider that introduced me to a whole different part of the world I never thought to explore. I hope one day I could see their performance and this beautiful country one day. (^ ,^)

  • Being an African American, this really saddens me, as our identities, language, religion, and culture have been broken, destroyed.

I wish I had a culture to hold onto, in the nonstop roiling pseudo-culture of American consumerism...

  • @125axel125

Soviets did the same thing to whole east europe. This americanized western culture is more "peaceful", but doing cultural genocide nonetheless, it's destroying diversity on it's way, and if you won't budge, come the bombs. Me being white northern European. How did I learn my English? Imported TV, movies and music. It's not all bad, I just wish people would remember their past, because once all the myths and stories are forgotten, you're living them. Even the bad ones.

  • kk anybody can asnwer my question, i'm half eskimo and half tlingit which is a red skin tribe in Alaska, after i heard this for me first time this summer, my spirit energy is very drawn to this i don't know why, i believe in the past i was a Moira, if anybody has asnwers please message me.

  • @123MRwolfe Cool bro. I think being Eskimo (Yupik or Inuit?) and Tlingit you would just feel a natural connection with other Indigenous culture more than most. Maori do share similarities with Indigenous people of the Americas, such as, an abiding affection and pride for their past, traditions and land. Shared histories of colonialism and displacement, political and present day issues etc.

  • My girlfriend is Maori and I'm Welsh hah:') Our kids are going to be the best rugby players in the freakin world!!!! :')!

  • @waferthin99 Yay!! I wonder if your son's would be skinny, I guess it would depend on you and your patner's build. My siblings and I are Maori/Welsh and we aren't exactly solid well my sister's and I aren't and my brother play's touch so his physical build is rather slim for speed and agility... hmm anyway Good Luck and I'm sure your children will be stunning like the rest of us Maori Yeh Boi... Doitz!

  • @LasSicc I'm 6ft2 size 14 I'm 14 stone and I play Number 8 and 2nd row from my college and local rugby team :L and she's pretty small she's rlly like girly :) but her dad is fuckin massive!!!

  • this is hot. new zealand is my lastest obsession

  • Este es uno de los videos favoritos míos porque refleja el espíritu guerrero de todo ser humano que estima su raza y su gente y sobre todo que tiene ALMA del Creador del cielo y de la tierra con esperanza de vida eterna.

  • was that translation accurate?

  • This is an amazing dance, so intense!

  • And honestly, there is nothing shameful about this aspect of the culture. Instead it is interesting to see how a culture from hundreds or thousand of years ago is preserved and remained untouch.

  • @korlesma It's like the prehistoric Greeks in the Iliad, shouting their names and lineages across the battle lines at the Trojans. Gotta love it.

  • i am sure i heard mate (or mati) --> die. That;s a similar word to my language..

  • Respect their Cultur!

  • this i the best dans ever

  • you have a lovely culture and preserving the artistic dance is a blessing in that the tradition shall live on in the way it is meant to be! Human expression is best understood through artistic communication!

  • Chur maoris hava a solid tinana...

  • there are lots of Maori's in NZ who live like this rural and living of the land but still keep their customs close, yes Maori do come to cities and join gangs get on the benefit blah blah blah but people need to stop stereotyping them and branding them thugs and no hopers but my closest mates are maori and i would trust them with my life, we as a country need to get over it because they heritage is our culture too just my opinion :=)

  • estos manes se ven re lokos..jajaja impresiona mucho!!

  • i love the believe here, made me cried like never before, and made my soul spike with blue flames, i'm practicing it everyday, truthly believe i'm a fallen warrior from New-Zealand, picking up so many word's like no problem at all, full support.

  • Can anyone tell me what this program is called?

  • It's great to see a people keeping their customs and lifestyle alive. Once they were warriors.

  • where can i dwld the full documentary ?? can give me the link?? thks

  • the energy in maori people when they dance their haka is so vast, that it takes a firm grip on the beholder... I would die to see a live performance (and the absolutely admirable tattooes that are traditional with the maori..)

  • They're creepy, but awesome ;)

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

    Keep thrashing Australia!! :)

  • one word.....COOL!!!

  • I wana see a real Maori Moko :/

  • Where can I find the full documentary?!

  • Meine Favoriten für den Rugby-WM-Titel 2011 sind: All Blacks, Australien, England, Südafrika, Frankreich!

  • I'm watching now TF1! I love them!

    crying ....

  • anybody know anything about any racial problem's, or can anymore can perform the hakas?

  • @123MRwolfe ANYONE can perform it as long as you take pride in it, do not make a joke of it and want to do it for the right reasons. We embrace people who want to know about our culture!

  • Not to be ignorant of culture... but... epic face! Epic face! Epic Face! Jizz in my paaannts.

  • What are some Maori surnames? I'm making a character on a game and I want to make him like a Maori. I have a first name, Tipene (crown, Maori form of Stephen) but I can't find any surnames.

  • Wow that Maori are so cool. I wish I could go to Africa =(

  • @lollerskates1992 ...you're joking a?

  • KAMATE KAMATE!

  • Суппер!!

  • intimidating men

  • I find it funny how a guy tried to connect the Polynesians to Asia, saw that it was impossble and tried to say they came from South America. Nope, took a genetic specialist to figure out that the Polynesian people are their own people and haven't come from anywhere.

  • Awesome and authentic!!!! Arohanui <3

  • TRANSLATE THE HAKA PROPRELEY.

  • hot men

  • To us the ugliest man is the most handsome ... I agree with the Maori! How fierce and wonderful you are.

  • That's part of new Zealand

  • i love the haka. i live in hawaii and our cultural dances are calm and timid. but the haka is strong and shows a fire in the heart. both beautiful but haka i like more because of its intensity.

  • are they in anyway related to samoans?

  • @maauwieprrprr Maoris and Samoans descend from the same ancestors, probably around 3000 years ago.

  • what a rubbish whakamarama of ka mate. obviously you are not from Ngati Toa or Ngati Tuwharetoa. Perform and translate one of your own haka and leave ours alone.

  • @carlzrockz the reason why te keha, (the pakeha) love Maori is because we can not unite as a ... tangata, PEOPLE hence they... the (keha)... still have a hold on us. Wake up TAMARIKI and reclaim not what is ours but what "IS" our future generations... Chew on that before you comment. know, comprehend. adapt, but please do not forget your WHAKAPAPA, TIPUNA, and most importantly the WAIRUA O TE TANGATA. Kia a kaha nga koutou. Peace be to all...

  • Ah a kalinago, nice meeting u;) ....yes I am aware kalinago and garifuna r different but both has caribs bloods except garifuna are.mixed native ppl.;)

  • What's the name of the documentary? I'd like to see the entire thing

  • @jadajkiss Dances of Life - Search on PBS website

  • @smpwxc I wish we could go back to our tribal ways! Im tired of this so called modern way of life, technology has ruined the old ways of life, Great Vid!

  • @smpwxc and @jadakiss

There was a similar program called 'Black Grace'

  • Nice video btw I myself am Taino n member of guatu ma cu a boriken....yukahu cacona guari'i (may the creator bless u).

  • Caribs tribe within Caribbean area were always following Tainos or our relative arawak aka Lokono people for captives women even eating men as their enemies but today caribs ppl got mixed and called themselves garifuna

  • @TheTainoWarrior I'm Carib (Kalinago) and we never ate anyone! Garifuna are different from Karifuna but we are related, just as we are related to the Taino.

  • caribs and haka are like cousins ; )

  • @MultiSinoda No

  • @CrazyShakaZulu i mean maori. but yea why do you say that ?

  • @JerrySpringerRooms , suck my royal arse you stupid basterd twat.

  • maori are similar to native american and dayak people in indonesia ...

  • @JerrySpringerRooms Your entitled to your. I am a proud Kiwi but I'am Maori. You are a proud Englishman but I ask you what is a Englishman? is he a Pakistani? or is he a Indian? they too are English they are born there but still hold the values of there culture once we loss our culture we loss our identity.

  • @JerrySpringerRooms Then why the hell are you replying to me you retard, I talk about the haka, and the only thing you bring up is the all blacks, I talk about rugby and now you're talking about soccer. Well Wayne Rooney can take his money and his big ass head and stick it up his ass. Dude we have more than enough immigrants here today, hence the reason they leave coz its the jobs are being taken by immigrants who will work for cheaper. you truly have no idea what you're talking about

  • @Tawhguy Gosh...I've wanted to live in New Zealand for so long. I respect the Maori culture and the geography so much, but I don't want to feel like I'm invading someone's home land or taking their jobs. I am American and of mixed descent. I love learning about and experiencing other cultures, but it worries me that I might looked down on as an immigrant. Especially being American :-/ Every culture has their own outlook on immigrants. I really would appreciate your perspective on this.

  • @SolaceInEntropy I havw nothing against immigrants, its sometimes easier for people to leave because there are better opportunities out there. In regards to the maori culture, all around the world the maori cultured is being butchered. Ive seen footbal teams doing haka when they have no idea what its about and have no relevance at all to New Zealand or the maori people and honestly from my perspective it sucks. Dont let the jerk off im arguing with make you think any different about NZ

  • @Tawhguy Ah. It has nothing to do with ethnicity and everything to do with the human need to despise ignorance. Carry on the good fight, then :-) Is there anything in particular about the society or the government I should know? Thank you for the feedback, btw!

  • @SolaceInEntropy

wow,you sound like a really considerate thoughtful person!

And the more ppl like you in my country the better!

    I'm maori btw

Maoris down here love american culture, kfc, mike tyson etc

and tho half of them can't even get on with each other let alone with foreigners so don't worry bout it

    Come on down LOL

  • @Lookinland Sounds like it would be the same as it is anywhere else. I'll just have to do the same thing I've been doing all my life; look past the bad people and find the good ones ^-^ I really do I hope I can live in your country some day. I learn more and more, and it just gets more and more enticing.

  • 0:23 He kinda looks like Joe Rogan.

  • @JerrySpringerRooms ok first of all, I said non rugby nations, although the U.K teams are incredibly shitty at rugby, that doesnt classify as a non-rugby nation. pfft the world cup doesnt mean that you're the best team in the world, so have your world cup, I dont even care if we dont win it this year, coz we'll still be the best. Well good for you for being bored then, meanwhile NZ will be busy beating England and all you other crappy U.K nations at rugby

  • @JerrySpringerRooms You are truly an ignorant retard. NZ have been doing the haka for as long as I can remember. haka is a tradition that maori had for thousands of years, and obviously its working for us, coz you poms havnt beaten us since 2003. And I didn't realize the UK represented the entire world, the UK is a joke to the world, everyone thinks your bunch of pussies, and that you suck at rugby, adn guess what, they're right. Dont mock the New Zealand culture just because you dont have any.

  • My mouth waters for your flesh! Good description.

  • where can I see the full show?

  • People like Morrallnvasion, are of the small Group of racists in NZ, they are the Minority of New Zealand, i get along with Pakeha, alot, People like Morall give them a bad name, then again, hone harawira give us Maori a bad name as well, but thats a different topic, what im trying to say is that dont judge All Pakeha(Europeans) just by one Little homo, We are all Kiwis and Brothers and sisters.....Chuuuuuur

  • at 0.50: this guy is fucking scary , but i like him!

  • i wish i was maori.......

  • Wow!! I love Maori music!

  • I Just Shit My Pants 0_0

  • Just wow...now this is what gives me even more of a incentive to learn the other half of my ancestry, language (te reo Maori) and the culture, cool indeed.

  • From a total white-bread American, I think this is waaay fucking COOL. You guys are keeping alive your past and passing it on, and not ashamed of your culture and warrior heritage. Long may you warriors live and your Maori culture thrive!

The small-minded loser who make racist comments are just showing their own insecurity about the lack of any real self-identity.

If I came to New Zealand, this would be the FIRST thing I'd want to see. Cool, man. WAY COOL.

  • @Chthon128 Wow, your comment is totally cool.

I've found we Kiwi's are altogether a cool laid back bunch, no matter what color or creed. These racist turds are a fringe group in NZ, so you get the occasional anonymous wanker on here.

I welcome you to visit our slice of heaven if you haven't already.

    Kia Ora. :)

  • @akira543 THANKS, DUDE! Haven't been there yet, but it's "on my list"!

(I make a Maori Haka face at you and stick out my tongue!) lol! Make the Earth tremble as hard as you can!!

    ;)

  • @Chthon128 Love this kind of comments :)

  • @Chthon128 you obviously dont know modern maoris

  • It's about honor and courage... some people know nothing about it. I think y'all are wonderful!

  • 1:00 LMAO

  • SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FRIGGIN AWEEESSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME :D

  • ok so first of all nz,every one of their sports team performs a haka of some sort...so..yeah,nz rules

  • Very good strategy, I mean their faces, which are scary. At fight this may play a big role to scare the enemy, and eventually to win. ))) I liked it, thumbs up!

  • super

  • No one should condemn these men for keeping the tradition of their ancestors alive and showing respect to their heritage even if it is through dance. Sure, the ways of the old Maori warrior are probably non-existent in the world we live in today...but I have nothing but respect for these men.

  • Los hombres desapareceran, la tierra permanecera Nosotros somos guardianes de la tierra.

  • It's in my blood... And I'm proud of it

  • Man I wish the British tried harder to conserve the Maori culture, it would have been awesome to hear the dialects of the South in NZ, where only books talk about their extinct language as being pure vowels. Man how awesome would it be to hear a language that's just fluid and spoken without consonants.

However cheers to all my Maori brothers for keeping your culture alive.

    Malo!!!

  • @sakiusad Really that would be amazing, I mean a language that only uses vowels, UNIQUE. Can you tell me more about it? I 'll be very grateful.

  • Comment removed

  • @piilani99 I can not even imagine how would be listening to these great warriors live, if my body shivers just by watching the video, Damn I would become one of them.

  • Maybe people do not take the time to get to know and appreciate your culture because it is obvious to me, that you are indeed a beautifully unique heritage that deserves love and respect! I would find it to be an honor to be invited to your land of New Zealand! Your friend in Nevada USA :)

  • @TheCathyLeach Consider yourself invited. Anyone who wants to join us and celebrate our culture is always welcome. :)

  • proud to live in Aotearoa !!

  • por favor ocupo la cancion original del haka y la de Ma Wai E Hari-Karangatia Ra ..... m urgen

  • proud to have maori in my blood :)

    Ngai Te Rangi

    Ngati Pukenga

    REP ! lol

  • Awesome video, thanks for the upload. I'm looking for the TV series Makatu (2002-2005), a thriller/ drama based on the Maori legends and referred to as a Maori style Twilight Zone. Can't find it on amazon and the NZ sites don't seem to offer any copies suitable for DVD regions other than NZ's. Would be great if someone could make a torrent file for it. Please PM me if you have any suggestions to find Mataku. Cheers.

  • SO my question is is this like one dance with the same lyrics and steps or did they have many like military cadences

  • @redith137 All maori have their own tribe which in the old days, had their own land each, so there are lots of maori tribes scattered all over new zealand that reign to different regions of the country, each tribe has their own haka, waiata (song) and some even use different maori words to what other tribes do. This is a well known haka in New Zealand but there are many others

  • It's in my Blood!

  • i wnt to b a Mouri!lookin at their culture juss makes you wnt to b one sooo bad!Mouri ppl r TRUE warriors!

  • That song/chant is absolutely intense! i love it.

  • Beautiful land fierce! Love the Maori culture! Such beautiful music, dance, art, and people!

  • Man I wish a was Maori =/

  • maoris had a 360 day calander like other older culture may be theyre crossed paths with asian and american indians long ago

  • oh wetewete

  • I have never been to New Zealand. Do the Maori have any resentment toward any suppressing new comers?? is there any sign of racism still??

  • @MAZDAKPRODUCTION no maoris are all good just be all good n chilld out n just go with waht your heart says brother , aotearoa harty jah love brotha

  • @MAZDAKPRODUCTION NO! there is no racism. We are probably the least racist nation you could ever visit. The Maori and white alike celebrate our kiwi culture. Come on down and experience it for yourself! Kia Ora

  • @HaileyNZ Thank you mate, my mouth waters for your flesh too

  • @MAZDAKPRODUCTION That is not normal to say when not performing a Haka. It now sounds very weird and creepy.

  • But they know how to Dance, and they Got cool tattoos, so fuck dictionarys ;-)

  • @MoralInvasion maori are also the main source of tourist income to New Zealand. Its not like Tourists come here for our one city or all of our rasicst imigrants like you

  • @Tawhguy Who told you that? Our scenery courtesy of Lord of the Rings is our greatest tourist attraction.

  • @MoralInvasion common sense told me. courtesy of lord of the rings? all they did was show people the land, all pakeha did was steal the land. Ask any non-rugby country about the all blacks and they will most likely talk about the haka. Kapa haka is what makes our country unique and why people love our culture. And yet people like you continue to bombard the people in which it belongs to with insults, hmmm doesnt seem pretty fair to me..

  • @Tawhguy Hiiii sexyboy. Even though I'm a very gay, skinny, weak bitch of an anglo saxon man who loves to talk shit from a PC ,I would still love to hold you in my arms and kiss your tender lips, as I tell you how much I love you and want to be with you for the rest of my life. Than we suck each other's dicks and share some semen. What do you say mate?

  • @Morallnvasion dude you lost and your still trying to provoke me into getting pissed off at you. Your pathetic, you wanna suck some penis so bad, go to K road im sure theres someone down there who will gladly do it for you.

  • jimmybigtoe01@yahoo.co.uk a lost maori, but not a lost seed

  • @jimmybigtoe01 what?

  • @MoralInvasion your just a jealous guy bro! Hahahaha your probly a scrawny little pizza faced, hairy, pencil dicked, loner whose family cant stand you! Your parents never showed you no love aye little boy!! Your culture bin murdering babies and each other for centuries! We're the way we are cos people like you keep us down! Whats your excuse??? Get educated and get a life you IDIOT! Hahahahahaha Im larfing at you white boy!!!!!!! And Im a black bitch so what you guna do about it?? AYE????

  • I would scared shit less if they were coming towards me

  • there is no such thing as New Zealander .. theres only MAORI

  • beautiful dance.

  • ♥☆♪♫

  • like Chris Spencer said: If someone tries to steal my money at the corner, then I'll just do this to scare them :D btw, I love this tradition..Wish I am from New Zealand

  • This are real Warriors

  • @piontro As you say:

    These are real warriors

  • @brgvc. " wiki says " A warrior is a person experienced in or capable of engaging in combat or warfare. these people are dancers, not warriors

  • @formula22000nz but we still do mau rakau, and know how to use taiaha, patu etc so we are not just dancers

  • Nga iwi Nga iwi Kei te mana motuhake me te aroha ... Nga Iwi Nga Iwi TAMATU TAMATU TAMAORA eeeeeeee iiiiaaaaa i e -- the first song

  • tearoha Aotearoa<3

  • I'm amazed about those strong culturs and original traditions from the past, being an spanish men,the most of our traditions have been erased vs the christian doings.

I wish we could have dancings such powerful...

So I've got a band and we will perform this dancing , ka mate, in thy honor.

But before we've got to play and practice our best jajaja!

  • Mean Maori Mean

  • intresting people.
