thats a pretty truck and my dad has a 81 ford ranger 150 with a 302 in it and he gets it up to around 8,000-10,000RPMs and he's never blown the truck up but its not in as nice of shape as yours its all dented and scratched

@123ewq I was running cast DOVE-C heads, with a mid range Xtreme hyd 4x4 cam from comp, cant remember the nubers on it. My 351W I had before this would sit at 6000 all day with no issues, this engine just needed some tweaking before it came around. I now run a solid roller cam, so no valve issues at all to 7000rpm

@discocreator76 You need to listen closer to it then, everyone else can hear the valve go out (at 5800rpm) which still is not high rpm but crappy hydrualic lifters will do that to ya.
@XxF0RD4h0licxX Really "BRO" you can FI anything. I have a 78 GMC 4x4 fuel injected. I put it in and now getting 4 mpg better, more power and easier to cold start. Yes, all these older trucks came carb, but it easy to FI it.

@Testostern this vid is old, engine is no longer in the truck, the issue was that the valves were sticking, added lead substitute to fuel, solved the problem

@colby460 you should know that this motor is long gone, check out the vids with the 532ci BBF. I have raced it for awhile and haven't run into anything that is even close to the noise that it makes. The motor in this vid was still streetable, so its running through mufflers.

lots of gas motors can out due ur diesel....look up 460 4x4 truck pull 460 fords will outpull dodge,chev and ford diesels also a newer ford v10 has more power and torque than any diesel pickup out there lmao on pump gas look it up......look up 426 hemi(rated 425hp) they really make more because they will dyno over 425 will one spark plug wire off and alot of torque.....diesels arnt all that they are craked up to be

5800rpm, with hydrualic lifters. The issue wasnt so much an over rev deal as it was varnishing of the valve stems, making them stick at higher rpm and smackin the piston.

this 440 isnt a 7.2l its a 8.0 litre bord out, and a 3 speed and dude diesels are just the only thing that is powerful. so ye a 440 CAN and WILL pull a 30k load if u want it to.

@europe0wnz it just wont mve 30k...the stock gears in a three speed are to short and there is no granny gear in a 3 speed either making it even harder...SO unless like i said earlier you would have to have a very high rear gear ratio and even higher gears inside the transmission..and by the way the highest erformance 440 from dodge was 390hp and 490lbft..if you did stroke it id say it may make 460 hp and 600lbft..my psd makes over 900lbft and gets a good workout pulling 30k!!and i have 5 gears!
buddy, i really couldnt give a shit about what u got, this 440 has 400 hp 600 ft lbs per torque stock from the factory and yes theres 2 kinds of 440's maybe u looked up the lower 1, anyways we've hooked it up to 20k+ and it was a breeze so i wouldnt be surprised if u just gave a little more gas and moved 30k lbs. i mean when we pull 18k we barely go over 2k rpms so dont tell me what u think this truck can do cuz u looked at the wrong spec sheet of a 440.

all i was saying is that in that year of truck they did not have rev limiters in them and they can be a good thing in the ones that do have them so that people that dont know when to let off of them dont blow their beasts up
Who the hell needs rev limiters..? All you need is a tach (at most, that is.. you should be able to have a fair judgement on how fast your engines turning without one, if you have any experiance), and the personal choice of willingness to fix whatcha break..

yeah I had that one bored .040 over. A basic rebuild can be done for cheap, if you do most of the work and it don't need any machining, but it don't take long to spend a bunch of cash on a 460 to get more power!!
ya i was looking at preformence heads from Edelbrock about 1,000 bucks a head. But we have the block and all the parts to it were planing on getting it bored out then resurfacing the crankshaft then a basic rebuild for now. How much power do you think yours is making
Work the stock block and heads over with the right cam pistons and intake first. Get it all matched and balanced and see what it turns out before you dump 2 Gs into aluminum heads on a cast iron block imho.

They can even take high revs, or sorta... my 460 is stock and I'll give her all she's got sometimes and it's been through more than any motor I know of my grandpa had it and used it on the farm for 20+ yrs and my grandpa wasnt easy on it, pluse my cuzin had it and he took it to truck pulls and the motor has NEVER been rebuilt...
It had a rev limiter, but hydraulic lifters don't like that much rpm for that long. They'll soon be replaced with solid rollers. But until then I have to keep it under 6000...BOOOO LOL
now lets all get a bag of popcorn and watch a chevy try to get out that without getting buried. cuz chevy sucks

buddy, i really couldnt give a shit about what u got, this 440 has 400 hp 600 ft lbs per torque stock from the factory and yes theres 2 kinds of 440's maybe u looked up the lower 1, anyways we've hooked it up to 20k+ and it was a breeze so i wouldnt be surprised if u just gave a little more gas and moved 30k lbs. i mean when we pull 18k we barely go over 2k rpms so dont tell me what u think this truck can do cuz u looked at the wrong spec sheet of a 440.

fuck mopar gas .. best thing they made was the 500 twisted wedge and im not 100% if dodge actualy made it ... a diesel will out pull gass anyday of the week!! my next truck will be a diesel .. i just rebuilt the tranny in my gas chevy from the shit being hauled out of it pulling a 5th wheel from the previous owner .. clutches came out warped like a bowl and striped right to the steel .. no raybestos at all on the friction plate!!!! tells how good gas engine/trannys are!!

Who the hell needs rev limiters..? All you need is a tach (at most, that is.. you should be able to have a fair judgement on how fast your engines turning without one, if you have any experiance), and the personal choice of willingness to fix whatcha break..

yeah I had that one bored .040 over. A basic rebuild can be done for cheap, if you do most of the work and it don't need any machining, but it don't take long to spend a bunch of cash on a 460 to get more power!!

ya i was looking at preformence heads from Edelbrock about 1,000 bucks a head. But we have the block and all the parts to it were planing on getting it bored out then resurfacing the crankshaft then a basic rebuild for now. How much power do you think yours is making

Work the stock block and heads over with the right cam pistons and intake first. Get it all matched and balanced and see what it turns out before you dump 2 Gs into aluminum heads on a cast iron block imho.

They can even take high revs, or sorta... my 460 is stock and I'll give her all she's got sometimes and it's been through more than any motor I know of my grandpa had it and used it on the farm for 20+ yrs and my grandpa wasnt easy on it, pluse my cuzin had it and he took it to truck pulls and the motor has NEVER been rebuilt...

It had a rev limiter, but hydraulic lifters don't like that much rpm for that long. They'll soon be replaced with solid rollers. But until then I have to keep it under 6000...BOOOO LOL
