The natzi symbol is ancient for other things that unfortunatly hitler almost ruined or did.. This symbol isnt just for Natzi's but they did a great job wrecking its true meaning.
why not also study pressure points on animals too like grizzly bears this would be very useful or how about on great whites in the ocean if humans have pressure points then animals should also?
@InTheseBooks There are books on animal acupressure actually, but they seem to be geared towards veteranarians, the fous being on healing animals. I'm pretty sure if you're in the ocean with a great white and he wants to eat you... well, that's bad news. I do know that sharks in general have super sensitive nerve endings one their "nose" that they use to subtle electrical (qi?) energy exerted by the movement of fish. If you hit one hard enough there it's suppose to disorient them a bit....
From a Shorinjiryu stylist to the many Shorinji Kempo stylists, call it what they will, "A rose by any other name is still a rose." The art of "karate-do" has one theme, we call that "enlightenment - active Zen".
There are truly only two minds for studying the "Arts", Confucious or Taoist (i.e. discipline or harmony)
To say that there "only two minds," is a crock of shit, the human mind and body is one, right and left, interconnected, and what about the most common (third?) Buddhist way!?
...and a "crock of shit" is how a Buddhist would debate a difference of opinion? One would argue, myself included, that Buddha would be in a state of and / or have a philosophy for embracing both Confucious and Taoist. Please understand, we are on the same page; but know that Confucism and Taoism are philosophies and that Buddha was a man, Buddha is "enlightenment", buddha is a belief that he was a God (rightly or wrongly that's not the discussion).
In modern terms, learning and / or life's journey for knowledge follows a natural progression into three parts; cognitive, repetitive, and explorative (SHU, HA, RU). My comments are simply taking religion out of the equation.
Question/s: I'm about to train in SK, and the film says that it's based on how the founder, a Japanese man who lived in China and became a Budhist monk, believed that the original Shaolin monks fought, studying the Temple's ancient paintings. The original Shaolin temples were destroyed, and their MA forbidden, yet in China there are all sorts of MA derived from "Shaolin Fist". So who is closer to original Shaolin?, and why I don't see "animal" techniques in Shorinji like I see in Gung Fu?
Shorinji Kempo may be Shaolin, there are similarities in the kata forms, like use of sun-fist, vs, reverse punch, and so on. It also has a lot of daito-ryu jiu-jitsu (like Aikido), within it, so a blend of old Chinese and old Japanese styles. Look up Doshen So on wiki, or there are a few books by him, kind of expensive, on ebay...
Anyone know where to acquire the recorded Shorinji Kempo song. "Ken wa hito no tame janaku, kokoro wo migaku tameninaru, nanatabi koronde, mata okiru." Anyone know the complete song as where to find it?
Comparing to most "Chinese" arts which combines hard/ soft movements to create a beautiful harmony of rythm, it seems to me however, that most Japanese systems often are quite the opposite - too external and small enphasys is placed on stances - too stiff. "If you're relaxed and focussed, you can sink the Qi". I do, see effectiveness in some of their arts however, in most cases, they lack the aesthetic of most indigeneous Chinese arts.
Eh..I wouldn't say it like that. But I feel like the new Karate/Kempo styles always try to steal/add a concept from a CMA art....and ends up doing it half-way, or sloppily. And yes, I find the Japanese styles to be too rigid in alot of cases. Should be more flowing, and with more full body power.
i agree. but admittedly the more external Japanese ways has been more effective for me in sparring matches. it is easier to learn and easier to execute. when someone is attacking you, it's not uncommon to freeze up during the attack. this freezing up really makes soft power hard to execute cuz making any movements require fighting fear at the same time.
Excellent stuff, many thanks.

What a life... reading the sutras, training karate, working for the railway. That's a very lucky guy. Something like that would be impossible here.
