  • what did they do with all the old hawker siddeleys?

  • @TheDylanJoyce

The Orange Line ones have not retired yet. Eighteen of the Blue Line ones are still at the Orient Heights yard, kept in operable condition, but are not normally used. They are reserved for emergencies. They last saw revenue service in November of 2009.

  • is that A H Series train here in toronto we have the Hawker h5 h4 and h6

  • No, these trains are customized for the MBTA just as Toronto's H series cars are customized for Toronto. AFAIK, there is no such thing as a standardized heavy rail subway car in North America.

  • The Blue Line 0600 and Orange Line 01200 cars were based on the PATH PA3 cars, built in 1972 (also by Hawker Siddeley).

  • Oh yeah, The "T" has ordered some cars for the Blue Line that are-- get this-- BUILD IN THE SAME STYLE AS THE Hawker/Siddeley 0600 CARS!!!!

  • Siemens and the T had no choice. The Blue Line's tunnels have very tight clearances, especially the Bowdoin loop. The line was once a streetcar line, so that's why the cars are so small and clearances are tight.

  • "NO CHOICE"?

what you have told me is the one true fact on what makes the T, well, the T.

  • Have you even seen the new Blue Line cars? They look nothing like the Hawker Siddeley cars except for the dimensions. They actually look very similar to the 01800s on the Red Line. If you want to see the Blue Line with bigger and different cars, I suggest you donate a few million dollars to the T so they can widen the curve at State St. and build a new crossover just before Gov't Center.

  • ouch :(

  • I've noticed that on the front of these cars in the window, there are these display things with numbers in them that light up, and there are buttons below each of the numbers. It looks like the numbers flip. Can you tell me exactly what those number things are for?

  • Those numbers are just the road numbers without the '01', so for example, a car is numbered 01300. The number board would read 300.
