Use the 3rd gun. It has bigger ammo.

You can't hurt a tree with tiny bullets from any of the other guns.

I Figured out why if you shoot the powerbox nothing happens, you've got to make sure you use the highest calibur gun you can use. then buy the ammunition. having the higher calibur weapon will enable you to shoot through the powerbox :)
