@snookseaglin Its called a "Bachi" made from a tortious shell instead of todays polymers. usual price on a good Bachi is about 100 bucks, but i doubt you'll lose this one in the wash =-P

I'm not too familiar with the shamisen as well, but that is not a "ice scraper." I believe that "pick" (for a lack of a better word) is called a "bachi" (not to be confused with the wooden stick used in taiko, also called a bachi)

well i am not that good at playing i have only played for about a year you could order them on eBay for about $100-$200 dollars i had a friend who didn't want one and i said i would take it. If you know how to play guitar it would help a bit. Once you now the basic steps your good to go! Its a little hard . So good luck and i hope i helped!!!

Yoshida Bros do very old songs mostly, but there's a certain amount of personalization. I think she's playing a lot like the Yoshidas' album version but still different.

Well, every player personalizes his/her piece to a certain extent, but this piece (if I'm correct) is a 'basic' piece developed for shamisen students so they can play together. The basic is almost always the same, at a certain point improvisation takes over, like on the Yoshida Bros' Hisshou album, where they improvize for 15 minutes! (Also one of the most boring versions I know... :-()

I finally found someone that agrees with me that the Yoshida Brother's Jonkara Bushi is the most boring versions around.

No disrespect to the YB's (they did help bring attention to the Shamisen overseas) but I swear its the most plain ones around, it just seems to piece from the boring parts of regular songs.

And you're 100% correct, the song she plays with guy at the end of Kyokuhiki Rokudan, its basically the same everywhere, every school so Shamisen people can play together.
