It all went wrong when the tried to pimp it up. It developed an uncomfortably forced Ibiza vibe, with the new announcer giving it "yo" "wicked" "luvvin it" etc. The way I saw it, was that they isolated the older viewer, who made up more of the audience than the producers seemed to think. It was no longer a show your nan could relate too. And it seemed a bit patronising to alot of younger viewers too, I think. And all that nonsense where they could date or ditch.
It annoys me so much!" Blind Date started in 1986! I remember it clearly! I was 18 years old at the time, I'd just left School and Cilla had blondish coloured hair! And yet Cilla, ITV and everyone else gets it wrong!!
Blind Date outlasted Big Break and Gladiators put together. I agree that the Generation Game probably beats it, but bear in mind that it disappeared in the early '80s and didn't reappear until 1990 with Bruce.
Maybe in your opinion. But as regards "queen of Saturday night entertainment", the general public will at least be more likely to pick Blind Date rather than Catchphrase even (I personally like Catchphrase myself).
As long as she doesn't fucking sing! Aaaagh my eeeears!!!

Nowadays you'd have that annoying X Factor voiceover; "BLIND DDAAATTTTEE!"
Superbruv07 1 year ago
The show didn't really hit its stride until Our Graham started calling it BLIIIND D-DAAATE.

Woooa! Looking frumpy lol. I was more excited by the old LWT intro. What ever happened to British pride? I think it went out with pro refugee shame.

Brilliant. I always loved the way the music pauses over a suspenseful timpani roll for the voice-over. You don't get TV theme tunes like that now!

Too right. well said

Ah, a reminder of Blind Date in the beginning when it was all relatively innocent, before selling out badly in its final few years...

Queen of Saturday night entertainment in Britain for more than 20 years. A crown well deserved.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
well since then I have decided that Catchphrase was also better than this. I never liked Blind Date.
