  • Very funny. I thought that Fleetwood Mac was a English band! And there is suddenly a cried-out-in-american girl who stoled all the hearts in the world?

  • This song takes me elsewhere also. Somewhere inside where we all are connected. Used to play along on bass and go there quite often when I was a kid. You know, like before I had to function in a world where people don't seem to even want to acknowledge our interconnectedness. Anyway, WHAT A FUCKING SONG! Many blessings to Stevie and the rest of Fleetwood Mac!

  • Agree..Stevie singing this is as good as it gets..my brother-in-law and I agreed whoever had the first daughter was to be called "Sara"..he won..and I love her!

  • why didn't you call her 'stevie' instead.

it's a much more interesting name.

  • she mentions sara in 7 wonders too. who is sara?

  • Sara in Seven Wonders? Stevie said "Sara" is her alter ego.

  • That voice and those lyrics! it makes my eyes well up.

  • I named my daughter Sara after this song:)

  • stevie's fave name

    indeed it is beautiful. :)

  • yes it is:)

  • mmm... my fave song of theirs. so beautiful & relaxing. thx for the upload, LadyVolsRock.

  • I remember seeing this song for the first time being played by Stevie Nicks on TV in consert, back in the day and I thought,WOW so

very mystical, This song sent me to another

land and it still does. so cool she is the best.

  • This song makes me feel like I am dreaming while awake and stuff.

  • i am still looking for sara, endless in my heart, one day i will find this sara.

  • Wow! I am also looking for my Sara, except her name is spelled Sarah with an h and stuff there son son. For now she is the poet in my heart. I am a writer writing my third novel about a main charitor named Sarah.

  • Yes, I could immediately tell by your mind-bendingly awesome writing skillzzz that you must be a novelist!!

  • thanks

  • just awesome love to hear some of the x factor so called singers give this one a go they would have no chance . this is class pure and simple

  • Never stop............

  • im speechless with chills

  • love listening to the drums in this its almost celtic somehow - there are some songs that will have been really special in our life time and this is simply one of them pure beauty.

  • Caught her last summer(08) in Toledo Ohio. Wonderful Evening. All the milfs were dressed in classic Stevie gowns. Way too cool.

  • Never Change.........

  • Stevie Nicks just gets better with age! When i seen her it was amazing! 4yrs ago wow!love her voice, would love to see her again!but dont think she will come back to little old NZ lol,

  • nada se puede parecer a esta musica y a esta linda voz......lo maximo

  • Stevie nicks was on fire. one of the best soft rock groups or lite rock groups ever.

  • Perfect song :)

  • Coño,me chifla esta canción.

  • What could possibly break up a couple like that? Money? Drugs? Success ? Both?

  • great song!!

  • My favorite song of FleetwoodMac, just beautiful.

  • TOO BAD today's "music" doesn't resemble stuff like this at all, as in, with real instruments, and real lyrics. The world of music officially ended in 1985

  • That is quite ignorant. =\ There are still some great bands out there, it is just that image and sex is more important to today's youth than music.

  • name some "great bands" today...

  • Radiohead

  • not really a "new" band tear face...

  • BLANK

    N/A

    ...

    lol

  • yeah i live a misconception... but hey i like good music too

  • No shit, or at least the beginning of it.

  • pretty song; love it. although it appears her & lindsey were together at this time; at one point the whole band was sleeping with one another; back in the days of drugs....

  • I really don't know (or care) what the lyrics are about. Nicks could be singing about the price of tea in China for all I care and this song would still be ethereal and beautiful.

  • well said

  • the lyrics are beautiful!

  • God, this song is so stunningly beautiful...absolute genius.

  • I have this sheet music

  • No song in the whole world sounds like this. From the very first notes it fills any space with an incredible mood. Ineffable.

  • Check out this cool song,Stevie Nicks' "Planets of the Universe" remixed by Victor Calderone, released in 2001 this version of the song lasted 20 weeks in the top 10 Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart

    /watch?v=egOp5lKU2jU

  • Drowning in the sea of love-Where we would all love to drown !!!!!!

  • Greatest band of all time-You guys rock !!!!!!!

  • oh dont you just want to let go when you hear this ahhhhh!

  • wish they would come down under, we get bugger all down here

  • they are back in england this summer - fuck the credit crunch...i sell my house to see them live again.

i might even be tempted to go glastonbury - because this band is one of few to DESERVE a spiritual and pagan theatricality - a homecoming...

  • one of the best mellow track's

  • lol...you are assuming!!!

the ORIGINAL SONG WAS WRITTEN IN 1975, OK? 9 VERSES WERE CUT FROM IT, BUT MAYBE SHE ADDED OTHERS. SHE DATED HENLEY FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS, FLEETWOOD WAS BEFORE THOSE TWO, SO BY YOUR OWN ADMISSION HENLEY AND HER STARTED IN 1976, MEANING 1975 WAS WHEN SHE AND FLEETWOOD HAD THEIRS!!! LB WROTE "GO YOUR OWN WAY" FOR SN. HERS IN RETURN WAS "DREAMS" ON RUMOURSM 1977.

    LAST WORD FREAK HUH?

  • DH and SN dated 1976 or 77.

    "maybe she added others"

or maybe she could see the future. lol

name calling makes you sound desperate. the end. :)

  • A ps---I never said "sara" was on that album in 1975 either, I said "Over My Head" "Say You Love Me","Rhiannon","Landslide" and that "sara" CAME in 1975..read more carefully please before tearing me down, lol.

  • You are assuming and accomodating your dates

"[On whether the line in the song Sara, 'When you build your house, I'll come by' is about Don Henley, whom she was dating at the time?] (laughs) That is true. He did [build the house]. And I was in it before he finished it.

~Stevie Nicks, Us magazine, July 1990"

    They didnt date till 1976.

    and Face it

Stevie left Lindsey and he was a mess

    by his own admission.

    The ways of love.

but believe what you will. THE END.

  • You seem to take what you read on the net too literal. tusk was made in late 1977 to 1978, and released formally in early 1979. i am no that technical when it comes to release dates. But, the sing was written in 1975, and WAS to be out on that album but it was too long and a shorter version was relased on Tusk, ok? More definitive for you? Sorry for my knowing and leaving out some words, I did not check over my work before submitting.

M-Fleetwood WAS the DW, AND 9 verses were stripped from it!!

  • "i dont think so...

but i'm referring to the "storm" in this song (Sara)

"he was the great dark wing within the wings of a storm"

Christine said that when LB and SN broke up

    they "fought" a lot

and SN said that the great dark wing was Mick." makes sence.

  • Tusk was 1978, contained a shorter version of Sara. Originally written in 1975 when SN and her friend Sara Recor were both seeing a married M-Fleetwood. M-Fleetwood married Sara Recor eventually. Do know SN wrote the song with Sara Recor about M-Fleetwood before it was released at all!

  • Say something we dont already know and

Tusk was released on October, 1979

4 yrs after you claim the song was written

which you first claimed appeared on "The White Album" in 1975. Thanks for the waiste of time and Have a great Thanksgiving!

  • This clearly shows "sara" was before the breakups in the band and Rumours came out and opened the breakups to the public in 1977.

So, LB and SN were together and M-Fleetwoods marriage was ending because of his affair with SN and LB said bye bye to SN because of that. Have a great Thanksgiving!

  • "Sara" first appeared in "Tusk" in 1979.

  • Beg to differ, here is a timeline, "sara" came In 1975, the new line-up released the self-titled Fleetwood Mac, which has since informally occasionally become known as the "White Album" Among-"Over My Head" "Say You Love Me","Rhiannon","Landslide"But in 1976, with the success of the band also came the end of John and Christine McVie's marriage, as well as Buckingham's and Nicks' long term romantic relationship. Even Fleetwood was in the midst of divorce proceedings from his wife Jenny. cont..

  • how u know all that?

  • Great Dark wing, within the winds of a storm.

Clearly talking of a ship on stormy waters. Her relationship with LB was always stormy, and SN has a habit of sleeping with everyone she makes a record with-ie, Kenny Loggins, Don Henley, Glen Frye, Tom Petty, Lindsay Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood and so on. So, she is talking here of how tumultuous it was getting, being with LB and having an affair with M-Fleetwood. Rumours says it all, It was a helter skelter of relationships.

  • her relationship with Mick was after LB

but LB refused to let their relationship end

and gave her hell for it "a storm" and he has admitted to this

"the great dark wing" is scape.

This song is not just about that

    and is sad. :(

  • My name is Sara!!

  • From the time I first heard this song I've always thought of driving at night and hearing this. It may sound wierd or dumb, I know. But, to me, it's like the perfect night time song...very haunting.

  • I can appreciate your viewpoint even if only on the surface--this song IS certainly a good candidate for such a "late night ballad."

FWIW, I, too, love driving at night (racing along the Mulsanne straight at 240 MPH in the dark of the night would have been the ultimate expression of this).

    Haunting, as you say....

  • I was in high school during the time when this came out, brings back wonderful memories of my youth,my friend, and the great times I had.

  • This is one of the best songs ever. It's so representative for me and I bet for lot of people also. I love Fleetwood Mac with all my heart.

  • i love this song (wipes tear)

  • no this songs about her and don henley. They used to date

  • i named my daughter after this song!

  • i might be named after this song.....

  • gosh this video makes me want to stick a flower in my hair and smoke a joint lol

  • haha

  • great idea! wanna share? lol

  • damn , every song makes me want to do that

  • i think it was a mutual decision between stevie and mick. i wonder if the 'storm' in the song was her relationship with lindsey.

  • I think "Storm" is about her relationship with Mick Fleetwood.

  • i dont think so...

but i'm referring to the "storm" in this song (Sara)

"he was the great dark wing within the wings of a storm"

Christine said that when LB and SN broke up

    they "fought" a lot

and SN said that the great dark wing was Mick.

get it? :) just a tought.

  • thanks for the reply moon still a great post thanks for the uploading of this classic

  • yw. i meant it *wasnt*

typos it must be the codine. lol

  • really funny.

  • This has to be one of the most beautiful

    songs ever.

  • This is a very personal song for Stevie. It is about a combination of things going on in her life, including the band, her friend Sara and her relationship with Fleetwood, but she considers "Sara" to be her alter-ego and her muse - the "Poet in her heart

  • Stevie Nicks wrote this in 1978 with the help of her friend Sara Recor, a singer and model who the song is named after. At the time, Stevie was secretly dating drummer Mick Fleetwood, who had recently divorced. A few months later, Fleetwood fell in love with Sara Recor and broke up with Nicks. He and Sara were married but later divorced.

  • Mick said he was very much inlove with stevie

but they knew it couldnt go on because it would destroy the band.

he was always hanging around Stevie like a bad suit. lol and according to him he's marriage to Sara was a very happy one.

  • oops! i *wasn't*.

  • o.o My mom loves this song. I guess cause she played it a lot in the car I grew to sort of like it too.

  • I was 13 years old when this song came out in 1979. Never had I heard such a dreamy song, and still pulls heart strings at 41. A timeless classic, anyone with a heartbeat should feel this song go right through them. Near the middle of the song still sends shivers down my spine. An all-time classic that every generation could appreciated. Take this on all the way in people. There will never be another song like this.

  • This music is so sensitive and its possible to feel many emotions, specially nostalgia about good moments of life.

  • It's one of those songs that are so cool, you

    Hate for it to end!

  • I always thought that song should have been turned into a movie with this song played intermittently in the movie

  • a work of art, just a magic song

  • stevie wrote this with lindsey...so I prefer to think that this song was about them...I mean that were smart people.

  • This is a nice video.

But the song "Sara" is about Stevie Nicks's affair with Mick Fleetwood.

When she sings "and he was just like a great dark wing," she was singing about Mick driving up her long driveway in a Corvette or a Porsche.

Don Henley of The Eagles said that the character Sara in this song was about an aborted baby of Stevie's that was fathered by Don Henley.

  • Isn't this song in reference to hissecond marriage?

  • A song with rushes of nostalgia, with lyrics so hard to understand when you're not english, and so accessible musically, close to the perfection naturally. If French artists could have the same talent nowadays that would be nice...

  • Stevie nicks rocksssssssssssssssssss.

  • siiiiiggghhhh..

  • I was named after this song----Wally is my name--they must have beed stoned !plus I was born in 59 --whats up with that???

  • This song Definatly reminds my of Sara Quin from Tegan and Sara. "Sara, youre the poet in my heart, Never change, never stop"

    Especially that part.

Disagree with me if you want to.

  • i can not listen to this song without getting teary eyed. stevie, thank you for such beautiful song. i love you forever!

  • the rest of the band is great too.....shes just a good artist.lose the poetry please.haha

  • My mom named me Sara after this song. Then my middle name Rhyann after another song by them... GO FLEETWOOD MAC!! ♥fleetwoodmac♥

  • yes.. but my mo changed the speeling so i could actually know how to prononuce it...also instead she took off the "n" in Rhiannon

  • i think 90´s are the best generation of human history , from music to all the other things

it was so happy and no problem with nothing, only living life.but this song is so sweet =)

  • I LOVEE the swallow all your pride at the end.. sometimes i fast-forward just to that

  • A great song full of good memories. Stevie, you're a beautiful woman with a truly wonderful voice. I'm glad you were a part of those days.

  • i wish i had memories of this song... i hate being born in the ninties...so boring... i missed out

  • Music in the 80's WAS great.(For a lot of us, I guess.} Along with Fleetwood Mac, was Aerosmith Def Lepard,Van Halen,Hall and Oates, Foreigner and plenty of other great groups and solo singers. Yeh, it was a great time for music. Probably won't be that way again.....

  • The sea of love is probably a nicer place to drown then a conventional sea.

  • Absolutely!!! Sing it sister!!!

  • My daughters name is sarah, she wont talk or see me anymore and I do not know why. I am so sad, this song makes me think of her. Divorce is so unfair on the fathers

  • I sympathize,it's really unfair on everyone involved. My parents just separated and it's really difficult for all of us.

  • As long as she's happy. That's all that matters anyways.

  • SHELL SNAP OUT OF IT ONE DAY

  • Me Too! :)

  • I like this song

  • Drowning in the sea of love,

Where everyone would love to drown..

  • I feel in love with this song when I heard it as a late teenager. One of finest Fleetwood Mac, Stevie songs in my opinion. Still plays well and what a melodic song and Steve's voice is amazing. One of my favorite lines, period, is "following in a sea of love ........ What a way to go....

  • HEY!

This is a freakin' Fleetwood Mac song! Not a political rally! go way!!!!

  • Beth Dewit from Smithers....I still love you and I Forgive you... Peace and Love

  • Socialism? Seriously, you are clueless. Stop listening to the rhetoric and pick up a newspaper. Bush and McCain are closer to Fascists than Obama is to a Socialist...

  • I was named after this song! and my name is Wally--(WHATS UP WITH THAT)?

  • i was named after this song too! but my name is Sara.

  • hit the top 40 charts on 12-22-79 staying 11 weeks and peaking at # 7! kinda took this song for granted back then in the 6th grade. now that i'm older when i hear it i got to stop and enjoy!

  • I just layed my freakin heart out about stevie and the damn YT lost my damn post bastards!

I love this song and stevie.
