  • Have you checked out squarealternative dotcom? No contract, a little less expensive and it's a Real Merchant account - 24/7 Phone support. A better option for businesses.

  • This is awesome!!

  • hey hey! Have you tried intellectus list building (google it)? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my cooworker got a lot of buying subscribers added to their list.

  • Do not pay a dime and get your own iPhone 5 at: goo.gl\GAFGE

  • I'm such a news Junkie.. This video does not have an introductory paragraph :( :P

This takes credit cards through your android or iPhone, it's aweome, and it's free while taking a normal cut of your purchases.

  • PLAYBACK

  • whoo hoo just got mine cant wait to start using

  • It also works great with gift cards so you can charge yourself and get the cash.

  • Don't u have to pay a monthly service for Amy transaction?

  • @Enchantedmediapro no they just take a percentage with every through transaction. It's 15% cheaper then paypal I believe.

  • Just received mine last night

  • wow

  • type square in utube search bar

  • love the square!!!

works great for me and my clients who can pay me over the phone with the manual entry function. You see when people purchase business cards from my company i only ask half up front. then when i am finished with the design I have the cards printed and my client pays the other half before i ship them out!!

  • wat about the people that dont know wa this is wat if they think your trying to scam them and do fraudulent stuff wat about then. you wont be able to sell things not to be mean i am serious about this tho

  • Yeah, he is wealthy. Smart guy too, started Digg and I believe he sold it off while it was hot.

  • this is amazing - im so very happy i have a blackberry storm 9530 - and that theres nooooo fuzzzzin way I cant use this item !!!!! LMAO !!!!! Thanks square !!! Now i just gotta get a 500 dollar ipad or iphone to use this ( but yea its only 2.75%) + 500.00 all for a lil square !!! lol !!! sun of a @#$#%^Y%$@$

  • @THEHOODEDPHANTOM the cheapest iPod touch is $229, or you could get a used one for much less. thats a lot less than $500.

  • @THEHOODEDPHANTOM

I agree, they need apps for the blackberry and windows phone markets.

Those will probably come once the operating costs are supported by that 2.75 percent and they've paid for the square units they produced.

  • Just got mine online for free

  • location now : confirmed , please wait ... ok all files been transfer .

  • no lie but your house look so freaking AWESOME! this house should be in HGTV

  • and it has like a $1000 limit per week i think

  • and there's always a CATCH, they have a fee SOMEWHERE I bet, be afraid when someone sends you a device free.

  • @leela194 theres no cap, but they charge 2.75% processing fee (which is a pretty pathetically small fee)

  • It's awesome but is it not available in the uk???? I can't find it inthe Ap store :(((

  • @CinnamonGirl2010 only available in the us now

  • It works great . I have one

  • It plugs into the phone jack? I thought that was only outgoing data?

  • @robertupton7

of course not, it has a fourth contact, which is the microphone channel. (Never seen a mobile phone headset?)

  • When this prototype was being tested there was already a solid dozen credit card terminal apps for sale and so this is by far not original nor innovative... Take a look at BILLING App who created the first signature capture feature! BILLING App by Spartadata

  • i subbed

  • Why just do not use the On-line payments or mobile wallet ?

  • according to my research, you need to give them your SSN

  • if someone is using your credit card fraudulently with this app, i doubt they are going to enter you real email address so you can see the receipt and location of their fraudulent uses...

  • how do u get paid?

  • @realistichomeboy I am stating the cost difference between swiped and keyed say u did 1000 dollars and the difference between the two is about 15 dollars. Now take that to a month of transactions and your business did 10,000 in processing now your looking at a hundred dollars or more of cost difference

  • ok.... now hackers will now get a chance to easily copy credit cards. This is one bad idea!

  • I'm not impressed.

It's a kludge designed to please the blood-sucking banker types.

They know the rest of the world is doing it a better way.

  • Has anyone actually used this app? We need one for our business and I don't know which one is the best. CT

  • I'm glad I have your signature now, Kevin Rose. Don't let your phone slip out of your pocket!

  • Surprised Kevin is still using the first gen iPhone to demo this.

  • If you're going to make a video like this, you have to prove that you're not the people you're making fun of, which they clearly haven't.

  • wtf, 97 text messages?

  • this looks like an ap used to make stealing an identity much easier. Who the fuck would put their credit card into someones phone?

  • Comment removed

  • Ooh - a credit card skimmer for an iphone - nice! Bet the russian mafia could knock up a few thousand of these no problems - plus you can send all the data to a remote location over 3G!

  • Very cool

  • Great, another reason why the Iphone is better to have then the Itouch, curses.

*I know it works on the itouch, just as from experience there arn't many open wireless routers :(

(thinks about getting sprint 3g/4g wireless thing :P)

  • whats the catch?????

  • @5botball it charges you 2.75% of the transaction ammount thats the catch :)

  • @0N35595 No it works over 3G, its great.

  • Dear Idiots! So What If He Did Put His Signature On The Video! Soooo! I'm Sure He Puts His Signature On Checks And Docs That He Signs That Ends Up Being Viewed But Strangers.

    Oh Wait! You Do Too!

    Bye Bye For Now Idiots!

  • Not a very good idea to put your signature up on youtube. Just saying.

  • What a daft Idea!, I suppose you could just "find" a card and keep making payments from it until it max's out. There is no security at all!.

  • @grayandjess1981

It would be the same security as if a business found your card and kept making transactions on your card in their credit card machine. The saving grace is that they are actually stealing from your card issuer not you. So when you go to dispute the charges they will be doing the investigations. Its all in the user agreement your required to say ok to

  • @ccc4872 I own a shop, and have a credit card terminal, if i did that im sure that it wouldnt be long before i was caught, due to the people who lease the machine to us want to know everything about our business, who owns it etc. What checks are there done to own this device? or can anyone get one?, I think thats the problem!

  • @grayandjess1981 lease the machine....ouch...how much are you leasing it for? as for checks done on the device you still have to give them your ss # and agree to the terms and conditions.. they also have your banking info and personal data. Same as your merchant account that you have set up for your store.

  • Respond to this video... oh, and in any credit card terminal here in the uk you have chip and pin, so unless we knew the cards pin it would be of no use in our machines

  • thats soo cool

  • Would be even better for security if instead of just signing with your finger, it actually recorded your fingerprint?

  • @amarigmail The iPhone can't record fingerprints. And if so, every card swould have to have a fingerprint recorded.

  • Credit cards are the most insecure form of electronic money anyway - and now we are supposed to make it worse by handing over our credit card to anyone we meet on a flea market sale? Shove it through a plastic dongle that sticks in a jail-broken iPhone? Which runs an application I can't verify?

People who buy this really deserve getting robbed.

  • do u have to have wifi?

  • @BrutalityFreeBeauty whipe ur butt lol

  • left handed?

  • buying blow in the iPhone. Type in your search bar: Square for iPhone review by Chris OConnell

    best review ever! sorry Kevy!

  • Great explanation & demo Kevin, really interesting to see where this kind of exciting technology will go in the future. Thanks for sharing.

  • vapor-ware..

  • I want this app so bad.. they better be for Canadians to

  • "ok, that'll be 10 dollars. let me swipe your card. OOPS i accidently put 1000 dollars, whatever, let me put your name in for you"

  • is that gonna be in the uk aswell cause it only says dollars can you use it for £ pounds?

  • i still cant wait till this comes out..

    ughh cmonn takes soo long!

ahha and i thought this can work on the blackberry and basically any other smart phone.

  • Cool!

  • Pointless device.

You could just type in the credit card information instead. It's the same.

In fact, it would make way more sense to just snap a picture of the front of the credit card, and have the application recognize the credit card information the picture.

    No need for extra devices.

  • thats nice youde like to utilize the iphones camera function, but good luck typing in the credit card info for a line of impatient customers. Swiping saves a ton of time, and thusly is not pointless.

  • also, this app lets you type in the credit card info without the device if you choose to....the device is free so no complaints

  • @MasterHasbar25 LOL, of course the device is not free. The price includes both the software and the device. Neither are free.

  • @realisticHomeboy what are you talking about? The app is free and so is the device..? The only cost is the 2.9% transaction fee...?

  • @realisticHomeboy

Typing in the credit card information is actually a lot more expensive because of security reasons. The reason for the swiper is to encrypt the credit card information and make it a card present transaction that reduces the fees on the amount processed considerably. Swiped % is 2.75.... Keyed in is 3.50 which is rediculous in the first place. Much better going with roampay or payware mobile

  • @ccc4872 You are comparing specific services, and not the difference between swiping and typing. Whether you have typed the information in or input it by swiping the card makes no difference to the phone, and it can be encrypted in both cases.

  • @realisticHomeboy it makes a difference to the processor whether its swiped or keyed. Its a security issue the more the risk the more you pay!

  • @ccc4872 That's actually a good point.

  • work with debit?

  • thing is though, if you were to use this for business no-one would ever trust putting their credit card into an iPhone

  • I think this is a great concept, all it needs is a tiny pen to come with it so people don't have to struggle making a horrible version of their signature with their finger.

  • Hopefully they already have an extension for this thing so you don't jack up your jack using it too many times.

  • @mykylc thats what i was worried about

  • If they haven't already, I am sure they will design a table top model.

  • hm, is it safe?

  • how much will it be?

  • what is that camera man!!!! anyone know the name of it??

  • looks very nice

  • Addressing cost: The thing that attaches to your phone is free. The cost of doing business this way is estimated at 3.5% of every transaction.

How do you get your money? - Part of the sign up process is you have to provide a bank account for them to transfer the money to.

  • STILL THOUGH, how do you get the money after??

  • @missjuliaelise you're dumb

  • Wow. That's great.

  • How much will this cost ? Does anyone have any idea ...

  • on app store, free-$1 and they send you the device for free. The only catch is they take a mere 2.9% of each transaction

  • what happens when u lose that little square dongle?

  • can this thing accept pin numbers instead of signatures and can it be used if a customer calls to pay for stuff i'll be sending by email. ie card number is entered not swiped. and more importantly is just for america or do you intend to hit the world with it?

  • That's good camera taking the video.

  • Yeah, hippy glen is AMAZING @filming and has unbelievable equipment

  • Looks like people might be loaded with the Tax even for the junk yard sales..!! funny ... :)

  • Did kevin realize that he showed everyone his signature and credit card info? What happened to the black hat defcon going hacker that was so careful?

  • Comment removed

  • Would be great with to pair with a stylus. If you already have a square dongle go ahead and provide styluses (styli?) to customers, too.

  • now you can your parents credit cards and take as much money as you want! just kidding... but seriously

  • how do u get the money after

  • Dear America,

The rest of the world has switched to chip and PIN.

    J

  • @26jam26

EXACTLY!!!!!!! We (Americans) are sooooooo far behind, it's about time we started catching up. We need our High speed rail and I am sick of carrying a wallet around this damn country. I throw change at people too, if you'd like some change I will be more than happy to throw it at you.

  • OMFG! That is the coolest thing EVER!!!! =D =D =D I WANT ONE! And I want to invest in that company too!

  • now you can buy drugs with your credit card! great idea

  • This sounds a lot like that fool Renetto's rant.

  • @donmulto At least it will be registered, so the ATF can smoke you out.

  • @donmulto yeah, and that wouldn't be traceable, would it. idiot

  • @donmulto Not a good idea since GPS must be turned on haha

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is the future of scamming

  • That's what I was thinking. If square becomes popular, it probably won't be long before a skimmer comes out that looks just like that square device.

  • Hopefully it would be thinner than that prototype so that we could maybe carry in our wallets.

But also have the edges made of rubber to make it less breakable in the wallet or anywhere else.

is the company still open for investment?

  • damn Kevin you need to catch some sun

  • Brilliant...is it too late to invest?

  • This is the future of payment transactions

  • Me? stick this cheap, hideous looking crap into my gorgeous, slick iphone? you got to be kidding, right?

notice how he has to hold the thing steady as he swipes the card. Awful product!!! What are you thinking Mr Rose?

  • calm down, it's a demo

  • I can use that with an iPod Touch 3g?

  • I smell hacker-heaven!

  • cool idea, but device design is suck.

  • this video cost 15.00

  • woah. 720p is crazy

  • Wow thats awesome. Nice new technology for the Iphone

  • It's very dangerous, a. I would never ever slide my credit card to give all info to someone's phone

    B. I would be worry breaking it in the Jack

    C. I would never hand my phone for some one to run lol

I read an Ebook about accepting credit card in your iPhone but using seciure system like paypal from iPhone-tipsandtricks (dot) com

    That made more sense :)

  • Yo what kinda camera is this filmed with it has amazing quality

  • @lvmatt05

It's probably glens new 7D or 5D cant remember which.

  • cool idea, but kinda scary. Will you be able to buy stuff from say.. Amazon?

  • It should accept PIN numbers too IMHO, and WTF it uses the headphone jack? Is it reading the card and turning the numbers into tones or what? Sounds scary. A hacked iPhone and one of those and who knows what you could do. Not sure I'd trust it off the shelf.

  • @davesag

Absolutely, if it doesn't require the customer to enter his/her PIN then it makes it too easy for the fraudsters. Signatures on mobile screens are generally not very accurate.

  • Let the CC fraud begin !!!!!!!!!

  • A great idea, there needs to be strong anti-theft encryption due to how easy it would be to get credit cards for a moment to swipe.

The design needs to be supported on the back of the phone, so when you swipe it does not swivel or fly off with use. MAJOR way to boost the sales of this would be gang up with Paypal or Google to accept instant credit card payments.

  • Pretty cool

  • Any cuter ich guys around here?

  • I can just imagine people running off with the phone when signing...

  • @iheartskiittles Hah was thinking the same thing ;p

  • no way I would swipe my card on this thing

  • I would be too afraid that the plug might break off. And the signature is not very accurate.

This would make a great hacking device though. You can steal people's credit card information very fast and easy without them knowing it.

  • hahaha....great joke!! And by twisting the square device left and right, you can also remotely steer your BMW, right?

  • WOW! This video is really well made. One of the best quality videos on youtube for sure.

  • Will be great for fundraisers!

  • Since when does an phono port support incoming data ?

  • @magzire

When it's also a headset jack...

    2 Channels out

    1 Channel in <----

  • Pretty cool

  • New Generation of Credit Card Theft.

  • Exactly what I was thinking...

  • thank you steve jobs :)

  • Haha alright Adam West!!

  • Very nice, great product and presentation

  • bottom right corner!

  • DIGG IPHONE APP!

  • Awesome now the hookers Gina accept credit card LMAO

  • Hopeless, so many security problems with this technique, do your research before you invest you fing idiot.

  • Hopefully the guy at my local car wash gets one, I hate cash... but why the headphone jack? seems so flimsy, wouldn't it be better to have an extension on the base?

  • who would trust their credit card info to something like an iphone app

  • you trust it with your web browser :O

  • So many people don't realize this.

  • Great idea but this will never be popular. Too many thiefs out there. This feature would bring many lawsuits.

  • I have a concern:

-Modern credit cards have a chip and a code, instead of a magnetic strip and a signature (or what you might call it)

I suppose you are working on a version that works for those credit cards

Other ideas are: use voice recognition instead of this signature function

  • Voice recognition?... Take a second and think about what you just said. Please explain how that cockamamie idea would work.

If I hand someone my credit card at a concert to buy a tshirt, how would THEIR phone recognize MY voice?... Or the other hundreds of people buying shirts?
