That's what I love about skateboarding and Progressive Rock like Rush. It's so unique, it makes for such a good video, if you have the patience to work on the editing that is. I listen to Rush all of the time, and their music gives me literally hundreds of ideas for a new video.
it's been a year ago or so i took a day of from work to drive from HB to hollywood to see alex & gary accept Rush's star on the walk of fame...there were about 300 fans on the block, LAPD had to close 2 lanes of hollywood blvd...
Has anybody noticed this about this Rush album cover? The overlap of the 'h' above the top right corner of the picture exceeds the direct opposite 'R' by at least 2 millimetres...... Still said, a very very very good album.
Holy crap, I've always loved to watch the rockets take off from Cape Canaveral, either at 2 miles or 200, and while I may never get another chance to see another shuttle take off from our humble space sport, hopefully they won't be the last adventures we launch from Florida. This song makes me relive those days and makes me hope for the future to come.
Otherwise, I'm just excited to discover a Rush song that mentions my home state :D
I love Rush!!!Just saw them for the first time ever in June of this year "Time Machine Tour" awesome concert. Analog Kid is one of the reasons I enlisted in the Navy....
You know what would be an interesting tour? I know this would never happen because Rush is too goddamn awesome to tour with anyone else, but it'd be neat for them to tour with Mastodon. That'd be interesting, somewhat of a father-and-son band relationship seeing as Mastodon is the next step in conceptual metal.
I always thought "Losing It" should have been after this on the album, but this sounds so ultimate that it makes for a good last track. BTW Columbia should have called Rocinante after Rush witnessed its takeoff.
If Rush were to be inducted into the Rock n' Roll HOF, it would be best if they either ignored the invite or sent the invitations back unopened. Rush performing at the RnR HOF would be as misplaced as Elton John performing at Harley Davidson's 100 year party. Kind of ironic that rock music is supposed to be about non-conformity and the only way to get in its HOF is to conform to some ideal. Rush is the quintessential non-conformist band.
To all those wondering why Rush is not in the hall of fame, wouldn't it be a joke if they were? Consider their lyrics, "But glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity," or "Living in the limelight, the universal dream for those who wish to seem," or "For the words of the prophets were written on the studio wall, concert hall. And echoes with the sounds of salesmen." Seems to me to be a seething criticism of all the hall of fame stands for.
@wllrjstn1 you know, i never really thought about it like that. i guess you have a point. but, they deserve some kind of recognition. i mean, integrity is what Rush is all about! they've been the same 3 guys since 1974(how many other bands can attest to that??), and they've always delivered. sure, not everything they've offered musically has been favorably received, but that's the critics' problem. they've inspired so many people, myself included & from what i've heard they're very humble guys.
BAD ASS SONG!!! I like to hear this song with my eyes closed , I can see the images in my mind. Rush top five greatest bands ever to exist!! Like I " ve posted before Rush and the Police top 5 of all time!!!
A friend of mine was on trash and heavy metal, then i gave him the Rush Chronicles 2-CD as a birthday present, 1 month later he said to me: "men, your present was the best thing that could happen to me, how come i never heard of this guys if i'm into rock and metal and stuff" the lesson here is not progressive>metal, it's about the search of new and great music that sometimes you can't find by yourself, so if you know great bands or songs, share them to the world with no fear at all.PEACE
I literally have not heard this song since 1982. I remember buying Signals because of New World Man when I was in seventh grade but ended up loving the whole album. This song was awesome because the initial Space shuttle launch of Columbia was still a recent event.
How can anyone NOT like the synths, ffs cmon Rush fans listen to them there so good 4:31-5:02 and then its kicks down.....ahhh hahah so amazing i gotta go fap. AFK
I love the outro. What a great album. I love this one and the next three albums. Like a lot of listeners, I was put off at first by the synths. Now, I realize that I just had to deconstruct my mind from years of listening to stupid grunge and punk with meaningless lyrics and heavy distorion bar chordsto be able to be able to discover music that makes ME feel good. For me, the synths make it so I'll never get bored with the song because there's always some cool sound or chord to listen too
I saw this tour back it the eighties in Toronto...they never fail ,always an killer show...I still have the first 14 albums on vinyl...can't let 'em go, never will !!!
the fact that they're not in the rock hall of fame illustrates the irrelevance and farce that the rock n roll hall of fame is. fan base, record sales, influence and staying power are the true measure of a legendary band.

Love this. It's like being 12 years old again...riding my bike home from Tower Records...album securely fastened to the rear rack...racing home before the heat warped my prized possession.
Love this. It's like being 12 years old again...riding my bike home from Tower Records...album securely fastened to the rear rack...racing home before the heat warped my prized possession.
No way!, I disagree, yes hemi and aftk and c of s bad ass of course. But if you give the 80's shit a chance, especially signals p/g, pw, uh and even hyf, you'll come to see the brilliance. Some of Liefson's best solos are from those albums.
Man it just angers me how underrated RUSH is. I mean they are seriously the best band on the Earth hands down! When you have the best bassist and best drummer along with such a passionate and great guitarist how can u not? People need to realize how great RUSH is and start listening to them more and mentioning them more!
I remember buying this album as soon as it came out . It had a hard album jacket and the record itself was red. :) I skipped school that day to buy it lol.
there is a boys club for the rock-n-roll hall of fame..maybe rush does not fit the mold they like..neither does alice cooper..and there is a huge list of greats that have been passed over ...but madonna does...does this tell you the scope of the rock-n-roll hall of fame?..
@LarrytheLumberjack they rock harder than rocks, anyways my sister likes AeroSmithand she keeps saying that rush is terrible and AeroSmith is a gift from god, its the opposite, RUSH is a gift from god!!
This album blew me away when I first purchased it as a student waaay back in 82 and it hasn't lost any of it's impact even listening to it 28 years on.
In it's day, this stuff was ahead of it's time and even now, the production and quality shine through.
I grew up listening to 50% Rush, 50% everything else. Geddy, Alex, & Neil are the greatest friends I "never" met! Thank the universe for bringing together the elements of Rush!
One more thing, Rush went to NASA to get the tapes of the launch and NASA was shocked that a Rock Band was the first platform to introduce the Shuttle Program. I remember hearing this from AJ Jackson on MTV (you know, when they actually played music). It is forever immoratalized as the first song in history on the Program. Rush should be the band to write a song about the last launch, exclusive rights.

My class is going to the Rock n' Roll HOF in 3 weeks, and when we get there, I'm going to raise hell!!! Why is Rush yet to be inducted? I mean they're only the worlds best band, not like that's a big accomplishment? :D
@redx880 give them a good kick in the balls for me. they must be lost.this band excedes rock.another leval for sure.moving pictures reuion tour they are doing the whole album front to back..we got fairly good seats. thank god.seen them 7 times.just once i want to be in front.peace.
@redx880 clearly the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame doesn't have any credibility. I think Rush will be content knowing they're one of the most talented bands of all time.
@redx880 I dont think a film 40 yrs and 50 million albums sold .. is enough for the Hall Of Fame .. Grandmaster flash well deserved ..Its a joke I know
@redx880 ben fong torres is the reasons there not in the rrof he hates rush. he did the same thing whin he ran rolling stone mag. if you take a real good look there are
@redx880 I know this reply is late in coming, but after watching the documentary about Rush, I think the current thinking among us all Rush heads is that it's BETTER that Rush not be inducted. They're too good for R&R HoF. Rush is Rush because they've always been on their own special trajectory. It was more appropriate that they were inducted into Canada's Songwriters Hall of Fame - that actually has merit, whereas the R&R HoF really doesn't anymore. So, BOO to the HoF!
@redx880 Irrelevant my friend ...You,I and millions of other loyal Rush fans don't need commercial rock's stamp of approval to certify what we have known for a long time....RUSH IS SIMPLY THE BEST!!!!
@neckarsulme agreed..we dont need the rrhof lame acceptance...why would we want rush to be in the same class as madonna and al the other"rock stars"...they should erect a RUSH Hall of fame for others to be inducted into...fuk jan wiener...
@redx880 My buddy and I used to call it the rock and roll hall of Lame when they inducted Van Halen before Rush. Grand master Flash? I mean Come on...
The riff at 2:52 is absolutely chill-inducing. That right there is pure Rush. No one else plays those chords, in that arrangement. It defines the genius of Geddy, Alex, and Neil. I'm a drummer, so can any guitarists tell me what type of progression that is? Just curious.
I got a VIP access to a shuttle launch in 84. We sat where the family of the astronauts launching were at...as close as civilians were allowed to be at a shuttle launch..what an exhilarating thing to see. and I've seen 2 night launches...one totally stoned...
As a guest of NASA, witnessed a nightlauch back in late 1997....AWESOME.....and had the song in my mind...all the time......words cannot describe The Feeling......
Oh my god dude, this song has been stuck in my head for a while now, and I can't shake it, nor do I want to!!! That keyboard solo is the only thing I wanna hear like all the time!!!
i love this song, every time i hear it, i remember when i saw the shuttle taking off. i was in navy boot camp in orlando, and we were able to see it. we were outside in the morning doing PT , and we all started looking up and cheering. that was THE ONLY TIME the company commanders lost control of us
This song is best enjoyed on a kick ass system with it cranked up!

@bsbungie Yeah man, it's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Talent.

@redx880 Irrelevant my friend ...You,I and millions of other loyal Rush fans don't need commercial rock's stamp of approval to certify what we have known for a long time....RUSH IS SIMPLY THE BEST!!!!
neckarsulme 1 year ago 2
@neckarsulme agreed..we dont need the rrhof lame acceptance...why would we want rush to be in the same class as madonna and al the other"rock stars"...they should erect a RUSH Hall of fame for others to be inducted into...fuk jan wiener...

We sat where the family of the astronauts launching were at...as close as civilians were allowed to be at a shuttle launch..what an exhilarating thing to see. and I've seen 2 night launches...one totally stoned...

jjcjammer 2 years ago 2
i love this song, every time i hear it, i remember when i saw the shuttle taking off. i was in navy boot camp in orlando, and we were able to see it. we were outside in the morning doing PT , and we all started looking up and cheering. that was THE ONLY TIME the company commanders lost control of us
