  • flying alaska was awsome. flew hawaii for 8 months too.

  • ohh 1:45 is that a sky van? N20086

  • @Kopihucky Yes it is! Good eye.

  • @fly4fun Just looked it up.. That specific plane crashed in 1992.

  • The music is so right. Wish I had that on my walkman when I did a Reeve Electra and ERA 580 trips in Aug 99. Ahh so nice!

  • have you watched that new show on discovery showing Era Alaska? Its a pretty cool show!

  • @navymmw Yeah, "Flying Wild Alaska" features Era Alaska (the new name for a combined operation of Era, Frontier and Hagland's.) Watch the episode that talk about flying out of Bethel. That's where of what these scenes are from.

  • Great video. I am headed to alaska to fly. Do you have any advice for me? Thanks

  • @fxdwings Sorry I didn't see your comment before. How'd the flying go in Alaska?

  • Excellent choice for the soundtrack.

  • Ha! Satriani, he keeps poppin up every now and then in these kind of videos, nice!

  • What a Great airplane. I had a chance to fly with my Uncle mike hoffman as an F/O. Tom too. I flew with Arne in the dash. Now i'm in the sled and see Agnes when I go to CYF. She still comes out, rain or shine. I also work with spangler. Thanks for the video, Kent.

  • Wow. Agnes is STILL there? Mike Hoffman was the most talented and smartest pilot I flew with. I feel lucky to have been 'tutored' by him. Tell him "Noel" said Hi.

  • Noel, that is so mike. my nick name is gundo so i was the "wonder dog" that was fresh out of "astronauts school" . crm didn't exist when he was my captain. I took so B.S. from him but paid close attention to the flying part

  • Thanks and thanks again ! I love this video and I've watched it a thousand times !

I love Alaska and Inuit people. I wish I could visit Alaska in the future...

I love that plane too, I use it often in my FSim.

Hope you're fine today, you looked great in 1990 ! (I love Wayfarers).

    AL from France, E-U

  • Thank you, AL!

  • Oh if I had ti to do all over again!

  • great too see this old plane again i worked it in the 90;s for Era then took 206EH to Lake Charles la

  • Oh, yeah. I'm sure 206EH made an appearance somewhere in that video.

  • just curious...in 1990 the video was probably on VHS I assume. How did you get it to digital? I have some flying videos I want to transfer to digital format to put on here. Great vid by the way...gotta love the twotter!!

  • do a google search for VHS to digital. I recently transferred all of mine.

  • Can you make the back of the aircraft have a door that goes to the ground like a ramp?

  • no, but you could fly a c-23,(sherpa)

  • Nice, the workhorse of the north.I have a few vids of otters in the arctic.

  • I have over 5000 hrs time in Twin Otters...best days of my life.....to this day I say, If I won a lottery tomm, the first thing I would buy is a Twin Otter. Would still be flying them today if they paid the same as a wide body!!.

    Twin Otter...there is no substitute!!

  • Pure aviation...well done video, great flight ops, and very nice music selection!

  • great video. i'm a private pilot myself and i saving money to get my cpl-ir. i'm sure that flying a 767 across the pond must be real nice, but i would love to fly like you did in something like era. i bet you guys miss flying low and slow

  • Really enjoyed the video. How would the Twin Otter perform if one engine failed, and did that ever happen to you?

  • It depends if you're heavy or not, but even with a full load, you shouldn't have a problem climbing out. We practiced it in training (actual airplane as we didn't have a simulator) but I've never had it happen in a Twin Otter before.

  • that twotter is an amazing aircraft. ive never seen such a huge plane takeoff so quick in my life.

  • Nice Video, what's the song?

  • Flying in a Blue Dream by Joe Satriani

  • I'll tell ya what: Dornier DO-228s, Cessna Caravans and Shorts Skyvans/Sherpas all have their good points, but there's just somethign about the Twotter. Long may she live!

  • Nice video fly4fun! Nothing compares to flying in AK, so when are you getting a supercub? ;)

  • Hey,

    Fly4fun,

Loved the video. I taught in CYF from 1989-90 which appears in last third of your video... recognizeable by the lovely Miss Agnes, airport greeter, in a deep purple kuspuk. Writing a book about that great adventure now.. which opens with "The twin otter lurched to the left..." Loved your video... it brought back lovely memories. Watch for my book out in two years. Would love to convo.... about AK and planes...

    flydogmama

  • That's absolutely Agnes! Yep! She was very nice to work with. Looking forward to reading your book!

  • That looked fun, they still in operation up there?

  • Era is still flying, but I they shut down the Twin Otter operation in 2006 I believe.

  • Hey, I recognize some of those runways!

  • You are a real pilot. Those are pretty brutal conditions. The wind, the mountains, and lots of pure pilotage. Great job!!

  • Nah, I was just a lowly co-pilot lucky enough to fly with some of the best pilots in the state. Combined, they flew 6 or so Twin Otters daily for 30 years without a single fatality.

  • Between the Twotter and the DC-3 I think I'm jealous!

  • Hi! I'm a french ultralight pilot and I daily fly the Twin Otter in FS2002. Really nice vid, thanx! What is that wonderfull music ? Sounds sometimes like Dave Gilmore's melodies...

    AL

  • It's Joe Satriani, "Flying in a Blue Dream."

My first solo was in an ultralight. What are you flying? Perhaps an Air Creation trike?

  • Sorry for Air Creation but I mostly fly multiaxis aircrafts : WeedHopper AX-3, X-air, SkyRanger...

Sometimes I fly trikes but they are DTA not Air Creation...

Thanks for telling me about the music, great sound and great choice !

Fly safe and take care, AL

  • Great! I flew the Eagle XL which was an early 3 axis ultralight. You're videos are very impressive! Wish my french were better. Just got back from a Paris trip today, but I'll need to live there to improve at all!

  • Thanks for all! Yes it's difficult to practice a foreign language when you stay home...! I have that problem since I not rich enough to travel to U.S. anymore.

But I have friends in AZ who talk to me very often thru instant messenger so I can keep my english "updaded" !

So, was it your first trip to France ? What do you think about Paris ? Tell me ! You can email me directly if you wish.

    Take care, AL

  • Im going on a twin otter in two weeks.

  • This is so eighties it hurts... Looks like a great job though!

  • wow a nice job

  • sittin here eatin parogies and watching a great vid of a twin otter.

    parogies+twin otter=perfect combination

  • Beautiful aircraft

  • traveled in the mid kuskokwim area for a number of years, some spent bouncing in a twin otter: nice memories, I guess.

  • great video

  • There was definitely no Britten-Norman Islander in this vid, although I *did* see a Shorts Skyvan. Great video, even if it was assembled in rudimentary 1990. I want a Twin Otter!

  • Nice!!!

  • Hey Kent..cool video. Think I saw this around....16 years ago! Does Arne know he's famous?

    "Blue Eyes"

  • I told Arne about it a few months ago. Thanks Blue Eyes! Email me directly sometime. I'd love to hear how you're doing!

  • Hey Kent..been a long time since those Bethel Otter days..does Arne know he's famous?

    "Blue Eyes"

  • Great Video...Some of the best days of my life were out there.

  • Doh

    Satriani goes well :)

    Good Vid

  • Is that an Islander?

  • Well, it's as good as I could do back before computer based video editing. I used two VCR's to edit this up. Thanks though!

  • Great video! Thanks so much for putting this up.

  • Awesome video!
