Most people don't know the Beverly Hillbillies was based on the

comic strip "Lil' Abner".

Of course Jethro was "Abner", "Elly Mae" was "Daisy Mae" and

Jed & Granny were "Pa and Granny Yokum".

Take one look at the old comic strip and it leaves no doubt.
