im new at painting. completely new at oil painting, which is the medium i chose, i bought a little oil painting kit that came with small tubes of different colors. anyway, i did some testing, messed around with the pigments and something called "linseed oil" i heard oil paintings can take up to 6 months to dry. so i painted a bit and i set it outside & the next day it was still wet! how can i put colors on top of each other if the paint is always wet! can someone help?
@bustachaina Hey, I do some oil painting and usually I just add the colors I want on top of the wet ones. Be careful of what colors you use (light on dark colors), but usually it should work if you just paint over it. Sometimes waiting a few days allows it to be dry enough that you can work with adding colors over it. Experiment a little and see.
Really enjoyed your video Lori. Do you always paint in the background first? Also how do you get fine angles in oils, such as the tips of the petals on the sunflowers? I always seem to have my brush clogged up! Am I using the oils too thickly? Would appreciate your advice.
Great painting on ebay..super super price...Just type in "1965 Original oil Canvas Colorado Landscape" into the search bar on ebay and it will be the only one that will come up...James emery greer graet painter, great original painting.
I love this technique! . I don`t usually like flowers ( I rather diamonds ;) ) But this is the most beautiful sunflower I`ve ever seen! I`ll try it some day. Great masters would be pleased to watch you work on it,,,
I really adore watching your video. Congratulations from Brazil. I love the collors and I think you´re a kind of 'sister' of this amazing painting because you shine like sunflowers.
Steve, thanks for the tip! I always though my hand looked weird, almost like I am wearing a glove...I still have so much to learn about all this technical stuff. Maybe my new Sony Handycam will be easier to adjust the WB. Thanks again for the suggestion and nice words. :-)
To answer some of the questions below...I use a series of glazes (transparent washes of oil paint) to build up the background. I usually use burnt sienna & a bit of ultra marine blue in the shadow areas & keep it transparent. I use cad yellow, naples yellow and some cobalt blue in the light areas of the background. I hope this helps...
I learned how to draw in high school and college, but I learned how to paint by working with great master mentors! Many thanks :-)
You may want to learn how to set the custom white balance using a piece of white paper. your skin is very bluish and the colors on the painting might look better. other than that, thank you for sharing this. the ending shot looked much better.

Perfect- how wonderful to see the finished work and to admire the vision that you obviously had a firm grasp on throughout up to completion. Even the look on your pretty face indicates the success and wonder you knew would be had by all who sees this wonderful work. God bless you Lori.
I really enjoyed your demo of the sunflower painting. I need to start wearing those gloves as I always end up with paint all over my hands. Your sunflowers are beautiful.
Wow...that's absolutely gorgeous. :D I really like how your painting comes alive with the lighting and colors. Great painting!!!
