You know, just because I'm a crime-fighting time-traveling superhero doesn't mean I don't like to kick back with a scotch every once in a while. And having been privy to more than a few well-aged whiskeys (I once picked up a bottle in 1922 and drank it in 1989) I can say that a well-gulped scotch is never a waste.
This is crazyness... 50 years gulped... do you even enjoy your job dude? That is a batch of whisky that you'll never again see in your lifetime. Hell I wish everyone got a stab at that dram
was this whiskey really aged in a barrel for 50 years, or for a length of time and the bottled and sat for 30-40 years only to be revealed at a certain point? I always thought 50 years in the wood but a friend of mine got me thinking...
@mrpicky510 Whiskey dot kom(you know the drill, no links, but thats probably for the best.) should be able to set you first on the strait and narrow, then to the wide and wobbly...
I've never had the pleasure/privilege to try a whisky this old, so i'm not really in a position to comment. i wonder, though, if it is really so big an improvement on the Macallan 15yo, which is already a truly wonderful spirit in its own right.

What a load of idiots. The only reason for drinking whiskey is to get shitfaced and have a scrap with someone. It all tastes the same anyway: rank unless served with coke. Macallan 50 years my bollocks, I could piss into some Huzzar and it'd taste better than this swill.
The reason this whisky is so special is simply because of how incredibly rare it is. The taste is nothing as special as these people are making it out to be. Whisky peaks at 15, 20 years MAX. If you want to drink a 50 year old bottle of liquid wood then be my quest. If the Macallan 50 was as common as a bottle of Jack Daniel's it would certainly not be treated so special. Its certainly not the taste.
I agree with you, although to taste that whisky would be something special. Just knowing you're drinking something 50 years old, wow. But I'll take a 18 year sherry cask Macallan with a big smile on my face anyday, that's my favourite from this distillery.
wellsm3: A large part of it is snob appeal. The satisfaction of drinking something most people can't afford. Price is often taken as the indication of quality. Also those with limited knowledge just assume the greater the number of years the better the product.
I doubt few there would have been able to appreciate something like that. A bottle that's 50... I wonder if after that amount of time it tasted more like smooth liquid wood than a characteristic Macallan.
I just want the decanter. I'll put some Macallan 15 year in it and call it a day. Or maybe be asstastic and drop some Lagavulin 25 in it instead. XD
I've tried my hardest to be able to appreciate whisky straight up but just can't do it. Drinking any kind of 40% alcohol beverage straight up just isn't pleasent, for me at least.
That was just a sales campaign for the snobs at the function, The only reason youd buy this is for it's resail potential. To say it's "like an elixer, from the gods" really just exemplifies how materialistic people can get, if you stuck an old turd on a plate and said it was worth 30,000 these people would get stuck in to it lol and prattle on about how unique it is. Macallan is a great whiskey maker though i agree with that.
@jackwang526 the older a scotch is the taste is strongest at the back of the tounge its not like a wine where you tastes the sweetness at the tipe its the richness your looking for
