I was actually driving to six flags to get season passes when the sirens went off. We had to take cover in a six flags building for 30 minutes. There was buckets of hail and rain coming down.
Wouldn't you get in the basement or some sort of cover if a tornado was about to touch down instead of standing there LOOKING AT IT??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!
@Awesomeman1908 not always. back in 2002 the sirens were going off and every thing, my brother, his girlfriend, a bunch of people who lived next door to us came to my house because we were the only one's with a bass mint, we were in the groge, the howl time, just feet away from the safty of the bass mint, AND there were funnel clouds all over the place, one right obove one of the lady's who was in the bass mint's house.
@Cloudy011 I've seen that in alot of tornado vids where lightning seems to come out of the funnel. Probably either because there is more an area of friction or more likely closer distance to the ground from the funnel. I'm no expert but just a guess.
Lived in Castlerock back in 80's and frequent there still though I'm in Florida now. : ( Anyhow, everytime them sirens went off I was out and topside with a camera if possible. Sure do miss them days.
The tornado wanted to sneak up on people and scare them. But too bad for the funnel cloud, because the tornado sirens went off. XD poo funnel cloud, maybe next time you can touch down.
@missliteeyes22 No it didnt, my mom worked at Saint Joes Hospital when this happened, she still does and she and the news channel reported no touchdown
Funny, I've studied tornados for a little while now. I used to be scared shitless of them. It's unusual, that it would begin to drop in Denver. First of all, Denver is in the middle of mountains. Second, tornados form in grassland, usually.
@JadedSketches Denver is on the eastern front of the Rockies, on the doorstep of Tornado Alley. Hence the presence of storm sirens. Denver is frequently placed under tornado watches in the spring. And Colorado is actually the state that sees the most tornadoes forming in the Rockies themselves because it's further south and is subject to the semiannual smackdown between summer and winter. Air over the Colorado Rockies is both moist and warm, and it gets forced upward quickly.
In Kansas when people hear there's a tornado coming, they look for shelter. In Denver when people hear there's a tornado coming, they grab their cameras and run outside.
R u crazy lol?? A tornado is so not nice to look at even though I do like tornados but man do what the sirens say ;D then ull be safe which I knw u r man :)
i remember that day acually i remember all of that summer i live in colorado too and i hated it when pretty much everyday there was tornados and i couldnt go swimming or horseback riding
Thats crazy. If thats your neighbor next door, I'd go and take cover with her. Hahahah jk. Very interesting. Here in Hawaii, we don't have tornados, although we do have a few water spouts once and awhile, but usually with no damage. We use the sirens here for tsunami warnings.
Yes, that siren generally means "take cover". Unless you live in Denver, where it means. Everybody get outside to watch the tornado. LOL. I watched so many funnel clouds from my balcony when I lived in Colorado. I miss those storms now.
Tornado warnings in Denver are usually as seen here. There is a funnel and no accompanying rain or wind. The supercell that passed over downtown in 1990 was an exception.
damn I was scared that day, I saw it forming right outside my bedroom window. And there was another funnel forming right above where I live. (really close to Elitches and stuff), i'm glad it didn't touch down actually. I never expected to see a funnel form in the city EVER lol
Myy nephew was down at elitches when this happened and called us, with our sirens going off at the same time in Commerce City. Never thought I'd see a funnel downtown, though.
