  • The foam insert is more for the booklet than for the CD itself. Without it the manual folds under its own weight.

  • Sega CD was an utter failure. So was the 32X. Great ideas for the Genesis but not executed well.

  • mark should do a review of the sega cd's bios

  • Wait a minute...

MARK HAS SAID THAT THE 32X SUCKS?!

MY MIND HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN BLOWN

  • @SpiralPegasus On the 32x review he said that it is a complete cluster f**k, but you should still get one because it's awesome.

  • i seen a playstatin game that had a sega cd/saturn cas and boxart was official it said playstation on the side so if anyone knows tell me plz

  • @uwright22 the playstation originally used games with cases similar to the saturn and sega cd.

  • @uwright22 Its true. Yeah some systems used to use cases like that. Like sega saturn, cd and playstation as well. I saw them at my locan classical video game store.

  • no mark it's 32times more waffle and i thought the 32x was your favorite because it had cosimic carnage

  • I have always wondered why the PAL sega CD cases are the double cd sort? for example my copy of Robo Aleste & others have a completly empty cd section , a waste of resources..& sometimes gets me thinking when I buy a new title ,is therea disc missing? any ideas as to why ? peeps..

  • It's obvious that sponge in for cleaning the disk when it gets dirty

  • @Brandon999LFC actually its an insert to keep the middle of the manual from drooping down since well you know, its a pretty damn big manual LOL

  • @TylursVideo i suppose you can use it for cleaning the disk aswell though

  • @Brandon999LFC I wouldn't, its pretty scratchy...

  • @TylursVideo oh.... stupid sponge thing

  • why are these cases SOOO BREAKABLE?!

seriously most sellings on ebay say "case broke"

  • i love your dog what breed is it

    gamer breed lol

    no just kidding

  • Comment removed

  • at least it's not as big as the 3DO cases...

  • lol a "comforting mattress"

  • Only Mark could make opening and closing a CD case exciting.

  • Can I pet your dog?

  • Imagine if they used Laserdiscs instead of CDs? I honestly hate the Sega CD/Saturn cases :P

  • lol how bout the ols psx cases where it the same size as the sega cd

  • visit forum.mobilism.o r g for free wm, iphone, android,....etc games and apps

  • do Sega Saturn games come with the foam thingy in them?

  • @sonic10158 I believe not, though I don't own a Saturn.

  • Need more foam.

  • WOW...I just watched a review of a cd case...I LOVE CLASSIC GAME ROOM!!!

  • mega foam also served the purpose to keep the manual insert from caving into the box.

  • I wish they did this with Pc games.

    Would make me so happy.

  • you should also try and get hold of the import cases, the european one is rather interesting, and extremely solid

  • thats what i wanna see Sega Dreamcast 2

  • I think the padding is for the manual, so it doesn't sag..... But I would like to think of it as a comfy memory-foam mattress for the game disc.

  • @rayek4eq FAGGGGGGGG

  • you should do a video on the saturn cases also... in fact do a saturn disk case vs sega cd case!

  • I think this is brilliant we often seem to play it during the summer with my brothers they are very good at it. I was lucky and found the game absolutely free for my ps3 here - 115 games. com they have literally thousands and the best thing is they are all free too I have to say 1:02 was rad

  • it,s clear that he is a big sega fan, and why not sega brought great addons for the genesis, but the sega cd cases were way to big!!

  • leave the 32X alone!

  • Were the only two people in the entire world who don't hate it.

I honestly think its a very aesthetically nice system with lighting fast, lightning sharp technical specifications.

    It mid 90's awesomeness.

  • its my favorite mushroom lol

  • HEY CHUCK WADDYA DO?

Me? Oh well i put the foam things in the sega cd cases. ROFL

  • @mrmontnegro Yeah so damn funny lol!!!!

  • THIRTY TWO TIMES WORSE!

  • i like the cgr dog

  • I wish there would be a Sega Dreamcast 2 or next gen Sega system...

  • hahahaha, dude, I never knew youtube had vids on sega cd, LoL

  • Dreamcast two, eh? heh

  • So Chuck what do you do?

  • I put the foam inserts by hand into every Sega CD game.

  • Was this before Mark got a Colecovision? Because he mentions how huge the Mega Drive is with its attachments, but the Coleco is ginormogantic with the roller controller and Atari game adapter.

  • Yes, I was before he got the Colecovision.

  • Oh Mark, your regular Transformers references are completely lost on me.

  • Omega Boost!

Also, I don't like PS1 cases: they're too damn thick, taking up more room in my collection than a PS2 box, although they're at least less tall, but my collection storage boxes are plenty tall, so that's hardly an issue.

Is the foam really called Mega Foam? I doubt it, but I can also hope...

  • The European PS1 cases were about twice as thick as regular CD case for some stupid reason.

  • i just watched your silpheed to sylpheed mega epic series of videos. great stuff.

  • stella likes the 32x over the sega CD wow and shes protesting against its not 32 times better its 32 times worse

  • The 32x is remarkable in that it's the only accesory that Mark apparently doesn't like on any system. It *must* be bad.

  • Excuse me, but aren't Saturn cases the same as these cases? If not, can you please do a review of Saturn cases?

  • The Saturn cases are the same. The original PSX(Playstation 1) casese were pretty much the same, but they were a different kind of plastic(they were the same size though).

  • thnx :)

  • ha mega cd cases are better they are orginal double cd cases dont break easy like the us versions

  • Those complex CD cases kinda reminds me now of PSP.If you look at the case,it's needlessly big for the UMD,but in the inside you have the UMD in a separate minidisc shell box,so the concept of large disc cases for better protection may be considered as still being used nowadays,at least,by SONY.

  • Same with the DS, super tiny cart in a large box. Oh well, at least they protect the games better than paper boxes.

  • I like those ones by its simplicity,it's just placing the cartridge into the frame.I don't know if I have seen manuals into the DS boxes, but I can think of that as the reason for a bigger size of the packaging of these games.

  • For a while japan thought the bigger you make it the more you sell in America. NES was much bigger here, as was a few other things.

  • exactly, the famous example was the NES cartridge compared to the Famicom one.SEGA hasn't done that from what I know,we can't consider the Virtua Racing cartridge, the SVP was reason for its size. However, some games, like LOTUS II or ROAD RASH II had bigger cartridges than the ones we know for SEGA GENESIS,and I don't know how to explain that :/

  • Road Rash was created by Electronic arts who always slightly thinner but taller carts with a yellow tab, for what reason? I don't know. But they did, perhaps to stand out. Their boxes were the same size but were paper from the get-go from what I recall, sega converted in the later years of the genesis life.

  • I didn't know that it was only Electronic Arts the one using that cart design.About the packaging, yes, eventually it got changed.A shame, the first boxes were great, similar to those cases for VHS movies. What I don't know is,did those yellow tabs in the carts have any functionality, like ejecting the cartridge,or it was just cosmetic?

  • Cosmetic, it has the EA logo on it. The only different kind of cartridge I know of is Virtua rally (as you stated) and the Sega Channel, but that was a modem on top of a cart haha.

  • Well the SEGA Channel one was unique, more than a modem it was like cable receptor, for the modem you had the Japanese SEGANET Modem, that was the great thing from SEGA Channel,it was like no other portal uptodate, not even XBLA(the closest approach to this portal) is like that.I remember that it was up to the cable operators to let you enable the service more than Internet access operators, very few of them back in those days of course.

  • The foam insert was a disk cleaning pad i think the booklet even says so some where.

  • lol i love that dog!

  • some of the ps1 game cases (im guessing the earlier ones) were about the same size as the sega cd or sega saturn cases.

  • It's like the precurser to DVD cases. I think they need to stick to slimmer smaller cases, but these still look neat.

  • dreamcast 2?

    dream on.

    sadly..

  • the dream will never die, though

  • no it wont and it will happen! wahts voltron?

  • Are you serious, you don't know what Voltron is?? ZOMG

  • I lost all of my cases still got the games, but I just have an empty feeling inside, I may look for the cases themselves and buy them

  • The Saturn had game cases exactly like these, which is one of the many reasons I love to collect Saturn games. Only a few of my Saturn games have the foam cushion, though... most were probably lost in the course of time. Oddly enough, though, every PlayStation game I own that has this kind of case has the foam insert. Makes me wonder if every Sega CD/Saturn game came with them, or if only the earlier ones did? Probably make for some interesting research.

  • Your idea is correct, only early Sega Saturn games had the foam, most of them did not have it.

  • This is a topic about Genesis OK!

    Forget the slow Snes.

  • Games like Out of This world, and Batman Forver Snes have more loadings that any game Sega CD

  • haha the foam insert. I used to just throw those out. That would be super funny, if one guy was paid to just insert foam inserts into the game.

  • u are god i love u i just subscribed

  • well the 32x have 2 games that i like. the 3d almost arcade perfect virtua fighter. and mortal kombat 2 32x ver that i like on par with the snes ver.

  • Hey don't insult then32X.

It had alot of great potential too.

But there is no denying how great the Sega CD is.

  • I don't really like top loaders any more. It's all about tray loaders and the players and systems that just suck the disc in without loading into a tray or top loader. I noticed with top loaders kind of cause you to scuff up your CD's a little more. SEGA systems period were very good for their time. The only Sega system i never played was the SEGA CD or the SEGA DREAMCAST.

  • cute dog :)

  • The mega drive was really just to say we have 16 bit sucka on her commercial :)

  • I think the same about SNES :)

  • lmao love the "how to" parts

  • lmao. ur a funny dude. good vid ty

  • /watch?v=DOmBJ5QV0F4&feature=related

    There is no Dreamcast 2.

  • 32x sucks

  • hell n

  • didnt ps1 start off with games like that

  • in america

  • it looks like a saturn game case, just more plasticy lol

  • Nope same case.

  • I love how sega packages they're games

  • the cases in europe are diferent and i think a little better.

  • I always liked the cases Sega used on the pack-in games (Sol-Feace, etc.) Those were made from similar plastic to the Genesis cases so they didn't break, but they didn't have any place to hold an instruction manual inside them.

The cases shown in this video were apparently meant to be equivalent to the Genesis cart cases, but I have no idea why they used the same flimsy construction as jewel CD cases. Jewel cases suck, I don't know why they caught on for music either.

  • ye man, who ever decided that it was a good idea to create em out of the most vulnerable plastic ever made, i like the case the playstation2 network install disc thingy came in, small and sturdy

  • I thought we already had a Dreamcast 2 "its called "XBox 360" and I mean that in a good way.

  • BTW, one thing you've never touched in your videos (even in CGR) is Importing games from Japan/Europe.

Do you have any opinion on them, surely you must have imported something in you couldn't wait to be officially released.

  • the bitch is right. :p

  • I like the ending where you used the "useless" foam insert to clean the "useless" 32x! Nice!!

  • I just bought one today. I felt as gitty as you when you got the Saturn.

  • I was one of those who created those foam pieces day in day out so your Compact Discs wouldn't be scratched. We all took the greatest pride in our job. All of us on the "Sega Foam Cutters Team-Department 23" demand your respect for our fine art of foam sculpting!

  • Your efforts did not go unnoticed. Those of us who collect vintage video games now have a plethora of unscratched Sega CD's available. I thank you on behalf of ageing nerds everywere!!! You are respected in our world.

  • @thebonefish how do u make foam?

  • you make these gaming things look almost erotic :D you know so much about the oldschool games

  • The case for the Sega CD is the exact same to the US case of the Sega Saturn

  • they had trouble keepin up and wernt making the moneys worth

  • did sega just stop making consoles?

  • yeah, they stopped after Dreamcast

  • so when will we see and Saturn reviews

32x doesn't mean its 32x better it means its 32x worse lol

  • Hey Mark, I used to work in EB games when they started doing those yellow preowned stickers, if you look, theres a four digit code on them, the first two is the format, which console, but the second two is how much they paid fro the used copy! Interesting huh?

But despised those boxes, the hinges would snap, the front would shatter if you even looked at it the wrong way and the discs always fell out no matter what you did to hold them in place.

  • Electronics Boutique! I'm amazed that the 4 or 5 games I have for the Sega CD are in as good shape as they are. So, did you hate the guys who worked at Babbages? (if you even had those in the UK)

  • I'm in Indiana and we don't even have a Babbages over here.

  • Alas, We never had Babbages in the UK, our only rival was "GAME", who EB bought out and then renamed themselves GAME, as they wanted to split from the US division. (they despise them, even managed to muscle out GameStop coming to the UK last year, buying the only rival GameStop could have bought to hope to compete, GameStation)

  • i can't wait to see your review of the saturn but i have a question.are trees still trees now that you have a sega saturn?

  • the game he had inside silpheed is great by the way

  • in england the mega cd cases are the small double cd playstation cases and are much better i know there better because the sega cd cases r exactly the same is the origonal playstation cases mega cd cases r smaller hold the game better and are stronger.

  • I second that! I was gonna talk about the cases over here in England too. =P

  • cool, ive heard alott about the sega cd, cant wait till you review it fully

  • The early Playstation packaging was in a large format as well. I think this was to prevent theft or set it apart from audio CDs. Either way it was silly.

  • 32x... huzzah 4 shovelware!

  • I'm waiting for sega saturn reviews! The sega cd had some decent games like snatcher. ^^

  • i wonder who thought of the insertible foam
