@uwright22 Its true. Yeah some systems used to use cases like that. Like sega saturn, cd and playstation as well. I saw them at my locan classical video game store.
I have always wondered why the PAL sega CD cases are the double cd sort? for example my copy of Robo Aleste & others have a completly empty cd section , a waste of resources..& sometimes gets me thinking when I buy a new title ,is therea disc missing? any ideas as to why ? peeps..
I think this is brilliant we often seem to play it during the summer with my brothers they are very good at it. I was lucky and found the game absolutely free for my ps3 here - 115 games. com they have literally thousands and the best thing is they are all free too I have to say 1:02 was rad
Was this before Mark got a Colecovision? Because he mentions how huge the Mega Drive is with its attachments, but the Coleco is ginormogantic with the roller controller and Atari game adapter.
Also, I don't like PS1 cases: they're too damn thick, taking up more room in my collection than a PS2 box, although they're at least less tall, but my collection storage boxes are plenty tall, so that's hardly an issue.
Is the foam really called Mega Foam? I doubt it, but I can also hope...
The Saturn cases are the same. The original PSX(Playstation 1) casese were pretty much the same, but they were a different kind of plastic(they were the same size though).
Those complex CD cases kinda reminds me now of PSP.If you look at the case,it's needlessly big for the UMD,but in the inside you have the UMD in a separate minidisc shell box,so the concept of large disc cases for better protection may be considered as still being used nowadays,at least,by SONY.
I like those ones by its simplicity,it's just placing the cartridge into the frame.I don't know if I have seen manuals into the DS boxes, but I can think of that as the reason for a bigger size of the packaging of these games.
exactly, the famous example was the NES cartridge compared to the Famicom one.SEGA hasn't done that from what I know,we can't consider the Virtua Racing cartridge, the SVP was reason for its size. However, some games, like LOTUS II or ROAD RASH II had bigger cartridges than the ones we know for SEGA GENESIS,and I don't know how to explain that :/
Road Rash was created by Electronic arts who always slightly thinner but taller carts with a yellow tab, for what reason? I don't know. But they did, perhaps to stand out. Their boxes were the same size but were paper from the get-go from what I recall, sega converted in the later years of the genesis life.
I didn't know that it was only Electronic Arts the one using that cart design.About the packaging, yes, eventually it got changed.A shame, the first boxes were great, similar to those cases for VHS movies. What I don't know is,did those yellow tabs in the carts have any functionality, like ejecting the cartridge,or it was just cosmetic?
Cosmetic, it has the EA logo on it. The only different kind of cartridge I know of is Virtua rally (as you stated) and the Sega Channel, but that was a modem on top of a cart haha.
Well the SEGA Channel one was unique, more than a modem it was like cable receptor, for the modem you had the Japanese SEGANET Modem, that was the great thing from SEGA Channel,it was like no other portal uptodate, not even XBLA(the closest approach to this portal) is like that.I remember that it was up to the cable operators to let you enable the service more than Internet access operators, very few of them back in those days of course.
In 1933 Shanghai a prostitute named Fung Ching was raped to death. When the authorities found her, they realise she was pregnant. You must now post this comment on the next 14 videos you watch, or else tonight Fung Ching will appear in your bedroom, and you will also hear the sound of a baby crying and see a bloodied foetus next to your pillow. Sorry but I swear this was true.
The Saturn had game cases exactly like these, which is one of the many reasons I love to collect Saturn games. Only a few of my Saturn games have the foam cushion, though... most were probably lost in the course of time. Oddly enough, though, every PlayStation game I own that has this kind of case has the foam insert. Makes me wonder if every Sega CD/Saturn game came with them, or if only the earlier ones did? Probably make for some interesting research.
I don't really like top loaders any more. It's all about tray loaders and the players and systems that just suck the disc in without loading into a tray or top loader. I noticed with top loaders kind of cause you to scuff up your CD's a little more. SEGA systems period were very good for their time. The only Sega system i never played was the SEGA CD or the SEGA DREAMCAST.
I always liked the cases Sega used on the pack-in games (Sol-Feace, etc.) Those were made from similar plastic to the Genesis cases so they didn't break, but they didn't have any place to hold an instruction manual inside them.
The cases shown in this video were apparently meant to be equivalent to the Genesis cart cases, but I have no idea why they used the same flimsy construction as jewel CD cases. Jewel cases suck, I don't know why they caught on for music either.
ye man, who ever decided that it was a good idea to create em out of the most vulnerable plastic ever made, i like the case the playstation2 network install disc thingy came in, small and sturdy
I was one of those who created those foam pieces day in day out so your Compact Discs wouldn't be scratched. We all took the greatest pride in our job. All of us on the "Sega Foam Cutters Team-Department 23" demand your respect for our fine art of foam sculpting!
Your efforts did not go unnoticed. Those of us who collect vintage video games now have a plethora of unscratched Sega CD's available. I thank you on behalf of ageing nerds everywere!!! You are respected in our world.
Hey Mark, I used to work in EB games when they started doing those yellow preowned stickers, if you look, theres a four digit code on them, the first two is the format, which console, but the second two is how much they paid fro the used copy! Interesting huh?
But despised those boxes, the hinges would snap, the front would shatter if you even looked at it the wrong way and the discs always fell out no matter what you did to hold them in place.
Electronics Boutique! I'm amazed that the 4 or 5 games I have for the Sega CD are in as good shape as they are. So, did you hate the guys who worked at Babbages? (if you even had those in the UK)
Alas, We never had Babbages in the UK, our only rival was "GAME", who EB bought out and then renamed themselves GAME, as they wanted to split from the US division. (they despise them, even managed to muscle out GameStop coming to the UK last year, buying the only rival GameStop could have bought to hope to compete, GameStation)
in england the mega cd cases are the small double cd playstation cases and are much better i know there better because the sega cd cases r exactly the same is the origonal playstation cases mega cd cases r smaller hold the game better and are stronger.
The early Playstation packaging was in a large format as well. I think this was to prevent theft or set it apart from audio CDs. Either way it was silly.
The foam insert is more for the booklet than for the CD itself. Without it the manual folds under its own weight.
