Really interesting to see this done stage by stage up close. Ray Mears did a short piece about using thorns as hooks but this was a far more in depth look at how it all comes together and works. Cheers for sharing your knowledge! ~PG~
Awesome lures...thorn lure seems perfect for trout. I wondered about the strength and reliability of the grapevine stays, but I must admit, it is pretty tough stuff as long as it's not too dry or old. Just so long as I have my glasses with me to be able to see to craft such little stuff!
T%his is awsome very cool would like to to see more fishing with this stuff to learn how better if possible and Aloha from Maui we dont have this stuff so i have to watch thnks and Aloha
now i just wana see you catch a fish. for the material used your equipment is impressive but i honestly cant see myself fumbling around trying to make something similar when ive never seen it work...still pretty cool and creative
Damit that was great stuff. Q&A time... What plant material did you choose for the line? What about gut? Lean critters offer great guts, ie catgut. Was it common practice for natives to use a tackle container such as yours? Would you say lures were a common EDC for natives? It's funny to think that the equipment used would actually require the fisherman to have skill and less tackle, you agree?
you've got some awesome knowledge and ideas but i'd really like to see the primitive fishing gear in use. A lot of this stuff is great in theory but falls apart under actual use. It would be cool if you could dispel this by showing actual use and catches. keep up the great videos.....thanks for sharing
@Angelsigns2012 Just about anything from walmart is designed to have a high disposablity level to increase revenue. that's not good for the earth or economy.
I bet they would love you on the "Survivor" reality show - you'd blow the other contestants right off the island

Why do you never answer comments? Do enjoy your ideas, but without seeing them used, they are only ideas...

@Christof60 i expect viewers to work with the info that i post . much of what i teach is primitive skill. practices used for 40,000 years or more.

How is this hook supposed to withstand a fish mouth? It would seem the grape element or the hook would break as soon as a fish hit occurs?

Pretty awesome I'd be lying if I said i wasn't disappointed not see you use your lures, hooks, and tapered line to catch a fish.
