whoaaa, the basses sound amazing. they had the one entrance confusion, but it happens. the tempo's slower than what my choir's doing, but it still sounds really good!
is there a video of that "mumbo" or mumba or conga or whatever it was called? and that tribal one where they all ran around! it was soo awesome! :) i went to a z. randall stroope festival with them 2 summers ago.
Just because it is a spiritual doesnt mean it has to be sung a certain way, or "black" (which I don't understand.) Thats basically saying that black composers don't write classical music, which is completely incorrect. This song is still supposed to be articulate, regardless of whether it is a spiritual or not.
@Akeysfan4life90 You have a point, the song is supposed to be articualte, but i dont think a little soul and feeling would hurt. (i totally dont see the other quotes before this so i might be a little off on where this comment is coming from....)
I sang this song last year in my choir at school. I think that the dynamics could have been better. You guys stayed at the same dynamic the entire time.
And there needs to be a better balance. Altos were not really heard at all. Which is what I listen for, because I am an alto.
And the top sopranos at the end descant part were not good. They were all over the place.
But you guys sang it stylistically correct, which was better than my group.

Could've had a little more soul into the song. Thay would've made Hogan proud.

Sopranos kind of went sharp and should keep the vibrato controlled. This choir held back on this song. GO FOR IT!

It's a choral arrangement...what do you expect? That's a pretty racist comment toward African Americans and white people alike.

Well not really. I can understand where magamario3 is coming from. I mean, it IS a black spiritual! But, i do believe that music is universal.
