I'm one of the finalists in the Tyee's short film contest, and I'm actually voting for this video by David Thompson students--it impressed me by its choreography, shooting, editing, and the energy of the students. I hope this video gets wide distribution on YouTube and through the school system. Not so much for its message--we all know that recycling is "good" and throwing stuff out is "bad"--but for its exuberant display of the best part of being young, optimistic, and engaged with the world.

Your kids' Lipdub moved me to tears with their overwhelming positive energy, passion, & commitment to both creating the video and the environment. They are the diametric opposite of the stereotypical teenager who sits in their room and doesn't care about anything (which we know doesn't actually exist!). How refreshing to see kids so tuned in to how cool what they're doing actually is.

I go to this school and I was in this video, and there was no segregation, nor were we "awkward" kids "hired" to be in this video. We're not actors, we're not used to spending time in front of the camera. The process doesn't look complete: some kids can't lip dub, some can't do their parts as they look completely clueless, and some of their dancing wasn't all that great. Other than that, the editing looks great and the concept is lovely.

Participants actually sign themselves up to be in the video, and therefore stick together in their groups, whichever they signed up together in.

As an example, the Killarney Key Club as a group would group together, the Grandview Elementary kids were together, and so forth.

An absolute waste of money, whoever is in charge of Green Team doesn't know the least bit about sustainability. If they wanted to be green, they could have not done something that used so much energy. The school was even opened on a Saturday for about 8 or 9 hours. Imagine that, a full school with lights turned on, for only about 200 people. Fucking bullshit.

@604qwerty You have a valid point, but I did observe the school doing a pretty good job in keeping power consumption to a minimum. The only lights that were turned on were for areas that were being filmed, otherwise the rest of the school was completely shut down.
