soviets wanted to demolish alot yes, but they also created a hell of alot of stuff. Stalin's madness can be seen as the most important preparation for WW2, the 3, 5 year plans most importantly managed to gear up the economy, resources and plans for the war. There is no way Democratic rule would have been able to go to war in 10 years where it had nothing. So in many aspects stalins ruthless rule gave the ability for allies to win WW2 in much shorter time, with less casualties in the west.
