What sounds good to one person, may be annoying as hell to the next person.
What sounds good on truck that drives around town or pulls a sled, may not be the sound that a guy pulling a 16K trailer for several hundred / thousand miles with his family wants to here.
Personally, for me, I don't like the sound of straight pipe fos something that gets driven every day.
Your straight pipe, single turbo is going to be different than twins, pac-brake, & muffler on this.
a 2nd gen 24v only has 1 injection event. 03-early 04's have two-stage injection and the 04.5-newer have the 3 stage injection. the second gen manifold DOES make it sound like a second gen out the exhaust (as i have one). turbo(s) also play a huge role in sound though. check out BHaner's video of playing in the snow for a good twins/straight pipe/3 peice manifold sound
A 2nd gen manifold isn't what makes it sound good. A 2nd Gen sounds like it does because it only has 2 injection events vs th3 3rd gen's 3 injection events per cycle. The 3rd injection event was specifically put in to address engine noise and cylinder pressures.
Also, when something is designed as a kit, parts have to fit in a specific manner. Change the angles or location and now your run into fitment issues.
2nd gen 24valves only have 1 stage of injection. 03-early 04 have 2. 04.5 and newer have 3 stage injection. the 2nd gen exhaust manifold DOES play a huge role in exhaust sound as i have one on my early 04. turbo(s) also change the sound a lot.
that's a fantastic truck! I definitely aspire to own one of these when i am done college!

If you would've used a 2nd gen 24v manifold it would've sounded way better.

What exhaust manifold did you use?

It's the BD 3-piece manifold.
It comes with the kit for the compounds.
