  • The horse at 0:14 was not Rachel . . . . .. ???

  • Enjoy retirement Rachel Alexandra -- you earned it!!!!!!!

  • She's the greatest filly since Ruffian! =D

  • @RidingWithRuffian

I AGREE 10000000000000000000000%!!!!!! not even lame zen could beat her!!! <3 <3

  • @apachespook71 Zenyatta is NOT lame, she's extremely talented and simply amazing. But I don't think either could beat Ruffian.

  • @RidingWithRuffian well, her and Zenyatta

  • @LoveMitchelMusso92 Zenyatta was great, an amazing race horse in deed! :) but I thought Rachel had Ruffian's running style. going out to the front, setting the pace, and pulling away. Beautiful creations <3

  • Fabulous video! This is one of my favorite songs in the world & Rachel is one amazing gal :) Liked the pictures you chose at different points of the song, too!

Just FYI - pretty sure the second photo in this is not Rachel. Her blaze is like an upside down exclamation. This horse's is too narrow.

And if you were looking to update the video, as some have suggested, there are GREAT photos of Baby Rachel on Facebook, if you have it - just log on and search "Rachel Alexandra Fan Club."

    Great job tho!

  • Thanks -

I'm kind of FB challenged but I'm gonna try to find her fan club - thanks for the info. I'd like to re edit this to include her baby pictures at the appropriate spot in the song. G

  • I really love this song, always have, but I think you could have served it better with pictures that illustrated what the song was saying. Where was her sire? Or the mare who gave her life? Where was Rachel on wobbly knees? The song tells a story that you didn't choose to tell. Still, I enjoyed it.

  • Well I really couldn't find a photo of her sire, the mare or Rachel on wobbly knees HOWEVER if you are able to provide these photos or any other photos of Rachel which u think would enhance the story - i would be more than happy to accept & update the slide show video.

  • On a LOTR site, someone said WMG = Mordor. So I guess that means UT = Gollum. I don't know why they let some sites use the same music and not others. It's a puzzlement.

  • If you google the words "Medaglia d'Oro photo", you can find many pix of him. If you google "Lotta Kim photo", you can find pix of both Lotta Kim and also of Rachel A when she was very young (wobbly knees and all). I've never posted a video so I don't know whether you need some sort of legal clearance to use any of these pictures, but they're definitely available online.

  • Why would YouTube make this video unavailable in some countries?

  • What a sweet video! I love this girl, great tribute to the crowning glory of God's creation: the horse.

  • I love Rachel Alexandra..from the first moment i saw her i knew she was gonna be something special...I think God gives us special horses like her and the great Ruffian and Barbaro to remind us how awesome horse racing can be...

  • PhoebeHelen, you are probably right, both her sire, Reviewer, and her dam, Shenanigans, both died of multiple broken legs in 1977, 2 years after her death.

  • I believe her damsire did also. Or at least had problems related to that condition. I mean, let's face it ... If the problem was attributable to the quantity of races run, or the length of the tracks, or running against too many males, or flying pigeons causing distractions .... (Have I left anything out?) .... then there would be many, many more breakdowns than there have been. That said -- May God continue to keep Rachel safe and in His loving care.

  • PhoebeHelen, I practically live in Pedigreequery and I found a horse, can't remember his name, had a big advertisement, "No MPND". And I was like??? They had a link that said Mr Prospector and Native Dancer were the worst thing that had ever happened to TB. And as I see the horses that died, I'm sad to say, they do always seem to have MPND. But many good horses come from that line, Alydar & Affirmed, Rachel Alexandra, Funny Cide.

  • And so did Ruffian. Rachel is a few more generations down the line than poor Ruffian was -- so it's my very sincere hope that Rachel's chances of experiencing that same condition are considerably diminished, God willing. Everytime I watch Rachel ... I am awestruck by her many similarities to Ruffian. Perhaps the soul of that marvelous filly has been allowed to "return" to us to finish her races. The sadness of Ruffian is lessened whenever I view it from that perspective. I love them both!

  • Well, fortunately, Roar who is her dam sire, as far as I know didn't break any bones. Reviewer and Ruffian both broke their legs as 2yo and 3yo.

  • Corrections .... Rachel Alexandra is not by ANY means "little", and Ruffian's demise was due to a pedigree of inherited "soft" bones.

  • Yup, quite the little filly. Emphasis on little, Secretariat little, thus the lunging strides and massive chest. Ruffian had a massive chest, but was taller and smoother, interesting that Rachel is the only HORSE, male or female, to beat one of Ruffians' records. WOW!

Kudos to Jess Jackson for not entering the Belmont, many say Ruffians' demise came due to too many races in too short of a time.

    Godspeed, Rachel.

  • Looking at these photos, she reminds me of Secretariat - with the huge chest and seeing how she lunges when she is accelerating.

  • The horse whose name is on the Preakness cloth, Terrain, had to be euthanized in his next race. It was really sad.

  • Nice, beautiful pictures, although the 2nd photo isn't Rachel Alexandra.

  • I love this song by Dan Fogelberg.

Although she never really ran for the roses (Kentucky Derby)... She earned every bit of her adulation.

  • WHats the song called?

  • run for the roses.

    from his greatest hits LP

  • Thanks Ya'll - she is a beauty

  • ps: Great pic video

  • amazing run in the Mother Goose...it is a once in a life time horse.

  • Great slide show! Love this horse! Way to go girl! I lived near Lexington, Ky for a while and really got the racing in my blood! LOL! There's nothing more beautiful than a horse as it runs!

  • Thanks - I got to admit, I am a city girl. I heard about Rachel Alexandra on the new when the other owners block her entry. Now I am a big fan. And your are absolutely correct - there is nothing more beautiful or exquisite than a horse as it runs. Kind of like poetry in motion.

  • great tribute and so true about her gate post, though she was the last to load in.
