All the recent Marvel stuff of that last decade has been based on Ultimate. Fury is black now. They reason was because of demograpfics, older comics only show white people but newer comics show people of all ethincitys. They problaby changed him because of new generations who have either seen Iron Man 2 or read the ultimate series comic which is a reboot, but I don;t care I still pefer the oringal Fury and I'm brown.

but this is ANOTHER Agent Fury. this is the "Ultimate Marvel (ie. "Ultimate Marvel Universe") [Comics]" version of Agent Fury. which was based on Samuel L. Jackson. i know that Fury is a white guy, and a friend kept arguing he's black (because he would appear as a black guy in the 2nd Iron Man movie), and so i looked it up online to see what the story was.

apparently there's two versions of the character. one in white, and one in black. and the one in black..

In the Utlimate universe he's black, bald and has a patch, period. SLJ just fit the role in looks. In the orignal comics he's white. Hell, they made a live action movie on him. Marval created a reboot universe called the Ultimateverse where they redesign Fury as Black.

For anyone curious as to why Ultimate Nick Fury is black... apparently Ultimates writer when Mark Millar was reinventing the character he tried to think of who the ultimate cool modern day badass is (Samuel L. Jackson), just like the original Fury was conceived as the ultimate cool badass from the 1960s (James Bond meets the Rat Pack). The new take on the character didn't work for me until I heard that take on it, but now I prefer the Ultimate Fury to the classic version.

@Monstercaine When marvel decided to do the Ultimates they altered and re-imagined a lot of the origins and characters with in the marvel universe and nick fury was the most noticeable physically (it looks as if you've not read a comic in a long while because this took place in 2001 9 years ago) the same thing happened to Phylocke of X-men fame many years ago (89 –90) she was originally English and is now of Asian ethnicity.
