These clips show that both players have similar skills going forward. What they don't show is the other half of the game. Gerrard as a central midfielder does so much more than Kaka to help the team win the ball back. Just search here for "Gerrard tackles liverpool pride" then try and imagine Kaka doing that. Another example of how complete SG is, is when he came on as a right back in his first ever derby against Everton. He made several last ditch tackles and cleared twice off the line.

The same thing is true in basketball...Defense is ALWAYS underrated. The reason why is because you don't typically see great defensive plays in highlights, and it isn't pretty, but it is what wins and loses games. I would take Gerrard over Kaka. It's close, but Gerrard is a better player

Kaka hasn't done anything Gerrard hasn't at country level really - this despite the fact that Gerrard is constantly played out of position so the team can fit in Lampard.
At club level, Gerrard has carried a side for a decade. Kaka could never have done what Gerrard did in 05 by carrying Liverpool to the CL title. He came 3rd in the Ballon D'or.
