i tried playing this recently andi just couldnt get into it by i usually like RPG's alot like KotOR is my favorite game ever, do you think its just cause im used to playing modern games? im only 15
@aloeverabutikken As far as i remember, the difference is in the engine. BG2 could handle a larger resolution than BG, and a few more graphical things. BG2 also introduced more classes, spells, items (of course) and a higher lvl cap. Some BG spells were modified as well. I might have missed a few things.
On a personal note, the introduced Wild Mage class was genious... GENIOUS!
There is a mod called Baldur's Gate Trilogy that makes 1&2 into one game with 2's updated graphics engine. I recommend it if you want to have an epic session.
The thing is, I could forgive Oblivion for being shallow if the gameplay was actually fun, but it isn't. It's shit. The entire game, aside from presentation, is shit.
this game takes me back, and for the people that say it is stupid have no sense of gaming at all................. and for people that say its hard to pick up the game after playing top end graphical rpgs are not true rpgers at all because this game is the definetion of RPG!

@gr4ndhustle Some people just don't like rpgs that much unless the graphics are there; I prefer BG-like games to Elder Scrolls type games (although I played Daggerfall forever way back in the day) I don't know, I just think the games are better overall. Oblivion has no personality at all, imo, a very lonely game. I grew up playing D&D so I'm fine with "imagination" over graphics. Actually, the graphics in BG 2 are pretty nice and look just fine especially with the high res patches.

Don't waste your time here, If you want a cool original concept, full great voice acting, quality 2000 and before tactical gaming buy fallout 2, I might be biased here but I also think many of fallout 2's characters are far more interesting but that is just because they are so original like fallout 2 itself.

@438bloody It's based on AD&D -- so it is turn-based, however there are fractions of turns (for attacks and whatnot) and you can also pause at any moment and command each member of your party, if you so choose. I hope that answers your question.
Damn does this game look fun. My only problem is the fact that its all party based, requiring the micromanagement of multiple characters in one play-through. But, then again I have yet to have played this game, so once I get the money I'ma get it and see what its like.

No, Diablo 2 is different. Diablo 2 and Baldur's Gate 2 are 2 of my favorite RPGs of all time.
Diablo 2 is the most addictive, without a doubt and the most multiplayer friendly.
Baldur's Gate 2 is a deeper, deeper, deeper, deeper, the deepest role playing experience, matched only by Fallout 2 and i'm not to sure about that either.
@ForsakenZOL Diablo 2 is not half as challenging as this one, the story sucks, and the role playing element is really weak. It's fun, but doesn't come close in depth to baldur's gate.

Baldur's Gate gaming style sucks! unlike diablo, the game mechanics are too complex for new gamers like me, i cant relate, spells are limited no mana bar and moves 1.5 inch per second(no run mode). The game may be fun 2 play if u know all mechanics fast enough. I dont know why people love this game, the story maybe one of a kind that may cause the reason why it scored 9.2 on gamespot. @raclariu Diablo is a hack n slash RPG. BG is more of a strategic RPG. Diablo you control 1 character, BG you control a group of characters. Your group makeup is more important then the individual characters you bring. There is also crafting and a deeper story in BG. So the interface needs to be able to support that.
Simple mana bars and some assignable mouse buttons aren't going to be enough.
You want a fun evening play Diablo, you want a fun month of evenings play BG.

@ForsakenZOL Diablo 2 is not half as challenging as this one, the story sucks, and the role playing element is really weak. It's fun, but doesn't come close in depth to baldur's gate.

Probably my favorite game ever. Has everything, great story, great battle system, complex but not too much so, great characters, graphics (for its time) look great, especially the backgrounds...i could go on about this game, but its a shame they dont make em like this anymore

Baldur's Gate gaming style sucks! unlike diablo, the game mechanics are too complex for new gamers like me, i cant relate, spells are limited no mana bar and moves 1.5 inch per second(no run mode). The game may be fun 2 play if u know all mechanics fast enough. I dont know why people love this game, the story maybe one of a kind that may cause the reason why it scored 9.2 on gamespot. I finished diablo and sacred, later on found out another rpg and turned on wasting money 4 this crap!

i am not a graphic madman , cuz i played diablo II long time, even last summer i played it with some friends, one of the best game ever, but this game looks pretty static,it takes more time to set up the speels of a character then playing the game, don't know how to say it exactly...sorry 4 my english, i'm from romania :)

so..diablo II it's from 8 years ago...but i think diablo it's much better....i didn't said that i dont like this game, i didn't even played it...but from my view...it loks awful...but i heard many consider this game one of the best ever...whatever i got my opinion.u got urs :)

@raclariu The graphic engine is practically the same as diablo 2. Isometric sprite based RPG game. You can have a difference of opinion on which game is better , but aesthetically speaking there is no difference. Saying this game looks awful is saying Diablo 2 looks awful.

@raclariu Diablo is a hack n slash RPG. BG is more of a strategic RPG. Diablo you control 1 character, BG you control a group of characters. Your group makeup is more important then the individual characters you bring. There is also crafting and a deeper story in BG. So the interface needs to be able to support that.
Simple mana bars and some assignable mouse buttons aren't going to be enough.
You want a fun evening play Diablo, you want a fun month of evenings play BG.

@ch3dder you're right here...i like games where you have a party, i played Dungeon Siege and even i finished Dragon Age yesterday, and i like games when you're playing on your own...maybe i don't like this game cuz i am tthe type of guy who likes more to fight (not all hack&slash games) not set up tactics...buuuut...told you i have finished dragon age , a game where it's important to know a few tactics and i have to say it's one of the best games i have ever played...

I dont know how old u are but maybe u were a little kid when this game was realesed in 2000..many kids these days cant play anything older than 3 years or so.

Aw, the poor little idiot got mad because he wasn't able to master the gameplay in the first 10 minutes, cry me a river. God forbid someone make a more complicated and deeper game than Diablo, one which actually requires thought and user input. Try reading the manual or spend some time learning the ins and outs of the system before you start crying about how it's too hard for you.
Diablo is a fun game series, don't get me wrong, but it basically plays itself, "RPG for idiots".
