  • that's nice =)

  • It evolved into 50 missions before they let them go home.

Losses were heavy until they implemented the P-51 Mustang. It could escort the bombers all the way to the target and all the way back.

  • It evolved into 50 missions before they let them go home.

  • Impressive courage and determination taken by all those soldiers, so one day we could live in a better world. THANK YOU!

  • Incredible footage!!

  • Those lousy kraut bastards got what they deserved. And to the fellow who thinks the US had only had one war have you forgotten about the Spanish American war civil war or war of 1812 or how about the revolutionary war when we declared our independence? Just to name a few. Please don't tell me I'm the only one who paid attention in history class.

  • lÖl_Âñý0Nè_wãNñÄ_chÄt_wïth_mè_î_fEèl_sÖ_loNêly_tôÐay~

  • how did they mess up the names so badly in the 1990 movie?

  • were the bombs made to whistle on purpose?

  • @xanthegreat1 is the air traveling at the bombs so fast that it causes them to have intense vibrations an make that distinct sound. airplanes do the same thing

  • 6% average loss of planes per run means 0.94 return probability. 0.94^25=0.21, so youre chance of returning from 25 runs is 21%.

I doubt anybody living in our spoiled societies today got the balls of these average guys.

  • "the german war machine" and "factories" were definitely not the only think that they destroyed. The "destroyed" thousends of civilians too, with absolut purpose.

e.g.: Dresden 13. -15. Feb. 1945, at least 25.000 civilians dead (compare this to 09/11). The war was over, but some bombs still left...

    Not to forget this.

  • @herbertsa the same ones who saluted hitler? yah i know, i sound like an asshole, and im sorry to know there was some innocent ppl sent to hell, ut war is hell...

  • I loved this video

  • Tubbytoobs, you sound like the typical shitfilled knownothing moron, who exemplifiestoday's "freethinker". Men and women went to war for their countries to protect your right to be ignorant, stupid and useless...which you are. I'm a Vietnam vet, and have had the privilege to board the Memphis Belle and tour the airplane. You have no good idea about anything, sot please take your predigested PAP, and shove where the sun won't shine...dumbass

  • To all True Americans

if you smell or suspect an attack or dismantle of your USAF internally

well you can bet we have been overrun internally, and if your are a sincere American patriot head to the hills and prepare for a red Dawn.

    Case closed

  • @Tubbytoobs ..!.. the rest of you

  • You can grab the audio-mp3 of this clip at grabtubesnow doht cohm.

  • Scenes are really impressive, we must not forget that this was the end of the war, and the Germans were already fucked up, flying and dropping bombs in the absence of Luftwaffe aerial was not "the task more difficult" to meet.

  • God bless these amazing kids. (and kids they were, although now they are our fathers, grandfathers and to some, great grandfathers.) Our kids in the service today are every bit as wonderful.

  • Actually the BoB was over before the USA entered the war. The USA had the financial and industrial muscle to fighr a global war. I dont like Stalin but he was right when he said about the allies `The British gave us the time (1939-1940)l The Americans gave us the money and the Russians gave us the blood.

  • @rouseg7 Because Hitler made a major Dumb fk mistake

    Like Napoleon

he never under stood Air Power dogma .. which became truth and was loudly punctuated, causing many USAAF Generals to roll over grinning in their graves, In fact Bomber Harris Head of the RAF then argued to Bomb Germany by night and bomb the workers where they lived and slept...the compromise was 24 hrs bombing, USA by Day

  • @Tubbytoobs USAAF Gens rolled over and loudly grinned whem USAF hit IRAQ GW 1 , the 4th largest Army in the World debacled in 16 days

Next may be NK another country with large Army who will eat dust if we do it timely

and stop pissing in the dirt

  • @rouseg7 be sure to discount he blood of Stalin's Soldiers he killed for running from fights, and the rest with the Communist's purges which amounted to dead in the 10's of millions, not counting the murder of all Polish Officers captured who were trying to ally with him ... Here's your salute you Wacko ..!..

  • Impressive movie, altho it may look exciting, i would never wanna experience it. War is just a terrible thing.

  • that was brillant......

  • The 'Belle was considered a talisman. After the crew went back to the USA to War Bonds drives, the plane was a backup. Crews considered themselves VERY lucky if their plane developed a problem because they could hop into the 'Belle and feel safe. This was told me by a radio operator who got such a chance. They made it back. When he went to see the movie he had to leave when the bombing run started. Too many memories.

  • Germany would've won if it wasn't for the russians.

  • very nice vid

  • While being american and realizing that the nazi's were evil, Evil or not the german soldiers served thier country too and fought and died for thier country, they went into battle KNOWING the US had never lost a war, good or bad, Evil or not German Troops i Salute you.

  • @TheZakMan77 So you wanted another Rome? another Caesar? a worthless waste of how many centuries in the history of the world? a Rome who learned late in their Egotistical approach to conquest that they had to build a wall to keep Scots warriors out of their empire in Britain Scots who later can be credited for the foundation of our freedoms today >>???

  • @Tubbytoobs While i agree with your clear statement, i dont see where i stated anything about Egotistical activities or Rome....

  • @TheZakMan77 the major faux pas of your moronics is Evil or not ... duhh I forgive

  • @TheZakMan77 nice sentimate.but lol i dont think the germans thought "wow usa has never lost a war" for gods sake man you had only had one war(the 1st world war) no disrespect, but britain, germany, france, spain and italy have had wars for thousands of years. im sure they were worried about the resources the US had to spare, but the US really didnt have a history of war or any militry reputation when they entered world war 2.you guys were a joke in africa before GENpattan sorted you out.

  • @timHYPERLITE

Sorry my friend i am not an american, and know that US had manny histories of war and LOADS of reputation when they entered in the 2nd world war, for an example: 1st world war, the independence war, war agaist the spanish in cuba.. u see? there is 3 examples from witch u didnt heard about before!

PLEASE do not comment about any subject that you dont know about, u will be disgraced with other's comments agaist you.

  • @TheZakMan77

Remember, most Americans think that the SS was a military division and that the Wehrmacht soldiers were Nazis. When you see a movie like Das Boot, you realize that other than the master that they serve, they were the same scared kids on our side. They did not have the stomach to win a real war, so they lost.

  • @haitipi

It had nothing to do with not having the stomach for it. It was because Hitler spread himself too thinly. If he had never gone into Russia, who know's what would have happened.

  • wtf I clicked reply to TheZakMan77 and it's come up with haitipi? Anyway, you get my point.

  • Bloody terrifying, hats off to all the gentlemen with guts of steel.

  • awsome i also have this on video at home both the hollywood movie and the documentery which is this one thanks for posting

  • is your caps lock button stuck? lol

  • yey I got fucking happy that memphis belle returned alive, I tought theyde been shot down

  • Thank you English Bombers for Bombing my hometown in Croatia, which had no military priority. Thank you again for killing almost my grandfather, who was watching the cows on the field.

When germans came first time in WW2 in our town, it was piecefull, but you destroyed our town - for nothin.

  • @Mad0Dude

    Yea ok dude

I hear ya... but your family blueprint also probably allowed Rome to rock and roll thru you also.. for how long ? lesseee.... from 500 BC to what? 700 Ad ?

aint it time they woke up .. and break the string and stand up for Freedom and liberty?

I mean your heritage can only count on 1 democracy that existed in all human history how is that?

  • My dad was a B-17 pilot in WWII. In fact he was the lead plane on D-Day. This past week they scattered his ashes over the Detroit River in one

  • @minerchord im 15 your older you dad was a hero, thank you hopefully you've told him that many times r.i.p....... my grandfather was in it he was in the japnnese islands

thanks for posting hope all goes well with your family god bless you.

  • @IJonesIx4 That's nice of you to say. ^^

  • nice!

  • @minerchord

Your Dad was great hero 8th AF be proud.

and remember the ones who never made it back

  • the americans are picking on germans for bombing countries, yet thats their own prefered strategy... just look at this movie, and then think of hiroshima.. and that other shima place... yeah... cowardice is smart i guess..

  • @Jakzerstoren HIroshima and Nagasaki

  • @stefrockets THEY GOT WHAT THEY DESERVED, BOMBS AWAY.

  • @Jakzerstoren the other shima place was Nagasaki and if the bombs didnt drop we would have to invade Japan mainland casulties were expected in the millions on the allied side alone.

Not cawardise just using better better tactics

PS we did have 2 other cities targeted but the Japanes surrendured first

  • @MajBong Actually,we wouldn't HAVE to invade Japan. At this point,Japan was isolated and contained and fully incapable of waging campaigns of aggression. The war was no longer necessary for national security/survival but strictly punitive. If fought today, liberal anti-war protests against sacrificing American lives and killing civilians just for the sake of revenge would force us to withdraw, but then Japan would not have become a democracy and likely would have ended up a ruined mess like Somalia.

  • @youtalkingbear

If the invasion wast a plan how come they minted so many purple hearts for the invasion we havent had to make any since, yea were still using the PH's that ware made for the invasion of Japan that we didnt have to do. Also we droped 2 bombs to make them surrender so the Russians would go there. Remen ber they declared war on Japan the day after VE day

  • @MajBong

Major Kong says your full of crap!

  • @youtalkingbear

And you would have quit and sent Billions of dollars of equipment and soldiers back home.. then lay the cost burden on working Americans already sacrifing blood and wages... and allow an enemy a breather and escape the old US Grant Unconditional Surrender to end it once and for all..... lol thank god ppl like you didn't exist back then or we'd all be under a Swastika or Rising Sun.. Moron

  • @MajBong

    Truth

you're right the Emporer had more brains and heart than than the Japanese

Ground pounders and saved his nation.... could have gone a completely different way.

and dont forget they were leaf'letted

and there were no more military targets left in Japan for Bombing as early as April 1945

  • @Jakzerstoren

    What?...

  • I think it is pretty sad that on practically every WW2 video posted on youtube you get British and Americans attacking each other. World War Two was won by the combined effort of the most Incredibly brave young men from many nations, who laid down their lives for our freedom. This constant bickering is disrespectful and we should think more about all those who lost their lives and not who's country "was" and "is" best !

  • like the young germans , doing there duty.

  • 15 Af's... but the 8th AF was the First Offensive AF... HBG

    9th was there Fighter support

  • sad as hell to see that bird falling out of the sky. 13 guys not making it home

  • @deathwarmedup73

B17's carried 10 men unless they allowed guests..

but it might ne nice to know 10 more men on ground took care of the B17s before and after a mission.. think about it .. Corp America has cut that waaaayy back

  • i JUST READ A BOOK ABOUT THE MIGHTY EIGHTH CALLED "HALF A WING ,THREE ENGINES AND A PRAYER" IT WAS AN EXTRODINAROY BOOK A MUST READ FOR ANY

b-17 BOMBER FANS i AM ALSO WRITING MY RESEARCH PAPER ON THE MIGHTY EIGHTH ABOUT THE bOMBER CREWS AND AND THE BOMB RUNS THEY WENT ON

  • MsMemphisFlyer, I dived on a B17 bomber sunk in Papua New Guinea. It was at 48 - 55M depth, and it was pristine, no coral encrustation and I could move the guns in the turrets. There were still bullets in the feed trays. I squeezed inside and was shocked how little space there was, I would not have liked to have been the rear gunner, lying down under the tail plane.

Spent 15 minutes down there and over an hour decompressing at 17M and 5M on 50% O2.

  • @XMrAverageX thanks for that, been doing anymore ? are you U S N.

  • @MsMemphisFlyer

    Good for you Good Luck!

  • THANK YOU, GREAT MANY THANKS

  • thanks yanks we would never had made it with out you, both times

  • mave.foorumi.eu

  • and btw Fk all retards on here

  • My prediction is we will kick Russia's ass in the end times

We will kick their ass soundly and long overdue... After we kick the lil fuck wits in Iran and Iraq and NK

  • India will handle China and Paki up your ass stand

  • meantime ..!.. all you Know nothings and F Wits

  • and this is to Google and all C(whore)porate Companies makin me pass an Are your drunk or not test with their Stoopid test of alphabetics ..!..

  • @Tubbytoobs wow, what a brain dead non-spelling moronic peter puffer. Did your mother let you out of your room to play on the computer? You need to go back and play in the romper room slick. You haven't the intelligence God gave a jackass.

  • ..!.. to all you cowards

  • @michaelwright999 God bless you brits for enduring what you had to endure.

  • LONG LIVE THE MEN

    OF THE MIGHTY 8th

    THANK YOU

  • vaya potra que tuvieron estos¡¡

  • sterling9821 is wrong english bombers were slaughtered to no fighter escorts

  • @flaminturds323

Brits chose night bombing, case closed

  • Comment removed

  • Great vid.

  • bravo

  • what does he mean when he says "in ernest"?

  • He meant that prior to this time the English had been bombing Germany but were being slaughtered simply due to lack of numbers. Their attacks were sporadic and nothing sustained. After sufficient forces were gathered from the states, The British bombed at night in Lancasters and Mosquitoes and American made bombers and Americans in daytime in B-17s and B-24s. Often, continuous and around the clock. Thus a real, continuous and effective bombing effort could only then be maintained.

  • Great Britain was not getting slaughtered as such, losses were high. But Great Britain delivered more hell to the Nazis than the Americans and probably inflicted 3 times more casualties to both industry and the populace (Military and Civillian alike).

So the losses were not in vain, Britain supplemented the bulk of Allied destructive power. Unfortunately most young Americans do not know this and continue to say that the US "saved" Britain.

Britain was saved in Summer 1940 by the RAF & Few.

  • @Plawranc Before the war GB had the most powerful military force in the world. After the US did. Had Dunkirk not gone like it did the US probably would never had to have been involved in France at all. Bad decision really hurt. That said. Were it not for Lend-Lease and the billions (1940's numbers) in supplies, ships, food, weapons, etc. the US sent to Britain and France and Russia I don't think you'd have won the Battle of Britain. But hell man. You guys were damned good.

  • and a whole lot of US Merchant Marines.........hmmm How many aircraft did British Bombers shoot down hiding in the dark..??

  • Well shoot down none.

But destroying pilots and aircraft on the production line in cities like Essen and Kiel? thousands perhaps 10's of thousands.

And another thing, Britain after defending its homeland went on the offensive with its fighter force over the occupied territories, Britain improved the Spitfire with DT's and larger internal fuel supplies to cross the channel in sweeps known as Circus and Rhubarb. Ever wondered why French targets were considered milk runs? Brit Air Superiority

  • @Plawranc Interesting. Guess if the US didn't help in Britain you'd be speaking German

  • @Plawranc American pilots were flying in the Battle of Britain too. Hundreds of B-17s flew in mission over Germany and they did as much or more damage the British bombers. I am not a young teenager that does not know anything about WW2. I served on the USS New Jersey BB-62 and fired 16" shells into Lebanon in 1984. BTW we not only saved your Ass twice, we also kicked your Ass twice!

  • @ChrisArcen

Excuse me? There were 17 Americans in the Battle of Britain. in number 71 Squadron RAF.

The Royal Air Force launched bomber raids numbering 1000 lancasters or more and razed entire cities to the ground, Cologne, Dresden, Lubeck, Hamburg. They used the latest British invention called Oboe which is the earliest form of TERCOM to drop bombs accurately with the assistance of Pathfinders. causing well over several million casualties.

And WW1 you saved FRANCES ass, not the UK's.

  • @Plawranc The Lancasters had to raze entire cities because the only flew and night. Our B-17s flew in the daytime and with there Norden bombsights were much more accurate in targeting. With out our convoys bring food and supplies to Britain you would have never won the Battle of Britain.

Do you really think the Germans would have stopped with France in WW1?

The U.S. produced a lot more bombers in WW2 than Britain did and we had to fight the Japanese and the Germans.

  • @ChrisArcen

Yes, but if Britain was so weak... how come British bomber pilots captured by SS units were murdered because they were "terror fliegers". And how come Britain had secured fighter superiority over the continent in mid 1942. And how come Britain defeated the Africa Corps in 1942. AND how come Germany's navy was almost wiped out by British warships?

Without Britain, America COULD NOT defeat Germany.

  • @Plawranc A major part of the reason Britian was able to do that is because we were helping with giving you food, weapons, and other supplies. Britian would not have stop Germany without the help of the U.S. it took the combined effort.

  • @Plawranc the reason Britain did so much to Germany was because America did not get into the war at the same time and Britain could not have done what they did without the America supplying them with food and weapons through our convoys. America could have beat Germany without Britain, it would have taken longer but it would have happened.

  • @ChrisArcen look no, if the americans hadn't intervened the war whould have been a german victory, britain didn't enter the war before they were sure to have the backup of france and america. you know germany invaded france, and they surrendered just before the germans reached the eiffel tower.. without the americans the british whould still be pissing their pants to this day.. if britain were alone they whouldnt take action, and that means german victory in russia (1 front, and japan helps)

  • @Jakzerstoren actually the WWII would be a russian victory.

  • @ChrisArcen

Here is another one in regards to WW1, the French army was BEATING the German army. And Britain was counter attacking in Belgium and the Netherlands. America joined in late 1917... which funnily enough is six months before the end of the war. And you say America won the war... like hell

  • @Plawranc I did not say America won the war, I said we helped.

  • @Plawranc

Whats that go to do with the 8th in WW2 ?

and your full of crap that Brits secured the airspacve over the continent in 1942

  • @Tubbytoobs

Rhubarb, Circus. Fighter sweeps over france and the low countries. The offensive was designed to attain air superiority over the occupied territories. And due to the war in Russia and the defensive nature of luftwaffe aircraft the RAF succeeded. The war over Germany however was a purely bomber affair until the P-51 was introduced.

And that in itself while American ingenuity was British funded and powered. My arguments here are against arragont Americans who disregard the UK.

  • @Plawranc

If the RAF secured the air space in 1942 how come so many 8th Crews went down in daylight bombing.. ? Case closed

the RAF owned in 1940 BoB... but sorry chum.. spits and thunderbolts could only escort 8th B17s across channel and then head back home.. the Luftwaffe waited , then pounded the Bomber crews ....case closed. And yes the P51 did make the diff in the theatre thx to Brit engines and drop tanks .. the went to target

escorted out and went back to strafe

  • @Tubbytoobs

I said occupied airspace, I do not think that the RAF secured German airspace, good lord no. I am saying that airspace over Holland and France and Belgium was solid RAF occupied before US involvement. As soon as the Spit VB and Spit IX came in, the luft were outclassed. And the P47's in late 42 sealed the deal.

  • @Plawranc Yes but outclassed or not they laid back.. the FW's and ME's laid back til the bombers were alone headed to German Infrastructure deep in Germany...German fighters pilots were smart... they knew your ranges and laid back... B17 crews had no hopes once out of your ranges hence .. the whole mystique of the Memphis Belle... the american crews flying by day had a life expectancy of 6 missions... hence the American using the Memphis bells 25 missions as the ticket home to a crewman

  • @Plawranc

Not only that, but if Allied fighters in 1941 - 1944 were that good, Old Iron Ass General then Colonel Curtis LeMay would not have had to spend the time to get B17 8th Af Bombers to learn to get off the ground in Foggy Britain and form UP and fly in military formations AND Fly Straight Lines thru flack and not waste fuel zigzagging .... and wasting resources and money ... he at least saw thru the BS and go the mssions going to do real crapp damage to Nazi's

  • @Plawranc

and even got promoted and was sent to run the 20th Af in the Japan raids in a Europe first, Pacific Second scenario.. hats off to him!!! americans who beliitle are Morons

  • @ChrisArcen so what your sayin is that the norden bombsight won the war, because without it you lot couldnt hit water if you fell out of a boat. when you first arrived in england you lost more crews than targets hit. without YOUR convoys?? the U.S did not want to help and it was only FDR who wasnt a selfish, isolationist prick. of course you produced more bombers. America is like 150x bigger than the U.k. as for the BoB, dont you dare try to take the credit from the brave souls involed.

  • @clothierben What I am saying is that without the supplies delivered by our convoys, The people of Britain would have starved to death and your planes would have ran out of ammunition and bombs. It took both countries to win the BoB.

  • @clothierben You think this is about credit?! It was about pouring all the worlds resources, men and machinery together to fight as allies. This isn't about who takes the credit. Let me be very honest with you, back then, anyone with your attitude would have gotten his ass kicked.

  • @clothierben 1) Norden bomb sight was made to work in daytime not nite nite being Bomber Harris 's strategy kill them while they sleep

    2) the compromise was US hit Germany Infrastructure ( a term even the USA didn't undertand even in 1990s I know cause it caused wrinkles in CEO's heads in 199o's)

    3) 24 hr bombing was successful because Brits and Americans came together to build a US Fighter to replace the ' Jug' with the p-51D that could take bombers to Berlin and back home

  • @ChrisArcen heehehehe :)

  • Buy a dictionary.

  • fuck you!

  • :'(

  • "In earnest" = seriously.

  • A) War sucks

    B) War sucks

    C) WAr sucks

    D) Amazing footage

  • @ElephantRage I agree.

  • You can download the original William Wyler WW2 documentary on the Memphis Belle at archive (dot) org

It's in the public domain so it's not piracy to do so.

BTW after my fathers combat missions(Dad was a B17 Pilot in the 463rd BG) he was a personal pilot of Brig General Hansel who is seen and mentioned in the Memphis Belle documentary film.

  • nice..

  • was the b-17 the first United States 4 engine bomber?

  • no it was like the 2

  • thank you for the information

  • Finally, I have to say that in contrast to most anglo-american propaganda movies showing "pigeon shootings" this film which was taken during a normal bombing raid exhibited at least a piece of reality about the air war in WW2.

  • I love that movie they made of The Memphis Belle..It takes great guts to do what they did.

  • Great video, but could do without the commentary. Typically American "how WE won the war". No mention of the RAF!

  • "Memphis Belle" mainly attacked french towns in the normandie such as Rouen and some coastal towns of Germany. she never entered the central or eastern part of Germany. that's why this plane survived.

  • She also didnt have any escorts and was not in any major 1000+ bombing raids

  • She was escorted during their missions by Spitfires and Thunderbolts but not over Germany, due to the lack in sufficient range of those fighters. She finished her last mission in may 1943 thus several months before the introduction of the P-51 D Mustang.

  • Yeah exactly, the spits and 47's had to turn back then the germans attacked.

  • a machine of death

  • good video of B17's i love them

  • If I had the money Id definatly buy one of these and restore it........

  • Wonderful, B17...the most beatiful bomber ever.

  • where are the Euro's dissing us??

  • brilliant video

  • The plane continue to struggle in... that is right. B17s could take enormous amount of damage to bring their crew back home.

  • Thanks for posting this video. Go on !

  • nice 1 thanks

  • yes indeed a nice movie. Got more? :)

  • great video thanks for posting it ^^
