I saw her perform in Toronto as Maria and was absolutely blown away. Her poise, control, stage presence and passion in presenting the role were perfect. I really can't imagine anyone doing a better job. It was a performance I will not soon forget.
She has a Maria-esque presence, don't get me wrong. But Eva Peron? No, she didn't have that presence, or the motivating power that Eva had. And they did have an Evita in Canada, she wasn't cast as Eva though. I thought it was just slightly dead-pan for the finals, but she didn't have much else to do for it.
This was one of Janna's weaker performances. I just find it too empty of emotion. Eva Peron had a presence; she had charisma. Janna just didn't do that for me.
Just thought you would like to know that Janna will be the understudy for the role of Maria in TO production. She's scheduled for Wed and Sat. Elicia will perform the other 6. Smart move considering Janna's popularity. The number of votes were never released (as far as I know) so they must know how much support she has and from where (Ontario?) so I think this is a strategic move.
Zang! That was an amazing performance - I totally believe her as Senora Peron and I would have definitely believed Eva Peron if she appealed to me like that.

We just saw Janna in the Sound of Music. She was absolutely perfect, and the company got a standing ovation. Well deserved, and well worth seeing.

This is a good performance of a tough song and she does the "recitative" parts really well. But I don't see her as maria, for some reason.
