  • @ the editingshop really? Lol thats epic! Haha i can just picture him saying that. And yeah the crowd def ruined this a bit. Hes got another video of ocean up on youtube thats really good quality audio. God what an amazing song. I actually just got back from london, wish i saw him!

  • Comment removed

  • Saw The Trio live in London a few months back, people wouldn't shut up for this then either. He actually faded out a bit of the way through and whispered into the mic, "If you could all just shut the fuck up." Utter legend.

  • He takes for!! ever to play.

  • that was just fucking orgasmic

  • What The Fuc....

  • HOLY FUCK!

  • GREAT AMAZE

  • stupid crowd ... shut your mouth and enjoy the music!

  • amazing!!!!

  • The best part of this solo is how you can see that he really enjoys this song and his excitement for this peice is what makes it sound so great. The mixture of highs and lows throughout the tune are placed perfectly and makes for a very emotional ride while listening to it.

  • WTF?!

  • Amazing his composure to play through these loud mouth fans talking during such an awesome performance. Hats off to him. I love this video and the song is great. Amazing skills. People at this place were obvoiusly unappreciative of this talent.

  • guys they are just expressing their excitement.. they went to the gig you didn't

  • what a great man

  • I always feel so sad when I watch this video, but that is only because I will never as good as he :(

  • @xjanni hey, but whatever you'll do, you can play with such love as he has ..

  • dear john butler trio

if you go to lollapolooza i will pay for my ticket instead of hopping the gate or resorting to other ways of obtaining access into the park. sincerely, an appreciator of beauty ;)

  • This song would be much more beautiful without the drunk people in the background. But then again, I'm sure as a performer it's better to have an enthusiastic crowd than a room full of stuffed shirts...so to speak.

  • 134 people were supposed to attend this concert and they missed it for whatever reason, now they can realize what they missed ...

  • I wish I could get a recording of this without the crowd noises..

  • how can you hear the guitar with all those chimpanzees screeching in the background?

  • for some reson i stoped playing guitar but this sone makes me want to learn more.

  • I listen to this while I sleep. It's so amazing.

  • the look on his face while he's playing just makes it so much better. you can tell this man has a love for guitar, more people need to enjoy what they do as much as him. a true, true inspiration.

  • oh john you know something we just cant understand

  • who needs drugs to relax when you have this song ...

  • proud to be a Guitarist.

  • 11 strings ? why not 12 ?

  • @DJLeh7959 Because the octave G string ruins the nice sound

  • god it hurts your fingers to play that on a 11 string :/ worth it though

  • Why are people talking!!!! its so annoying! let JB play in silence! (not talking about the people cheering)

  • its quite amusing to think of the kind of person who would dislike this: Obviously not a shred of musical taste, possibly a troller who took time to visit and hit dislike, or it may have been John Butler himself so as to not be the only popular video with no dislikes.

  • That's a nice looking bass guitar there!

  • Alevis started this centuries ago.. Search on Ozlem Ozdil and you'll find the same technique.

  • Fucking rocked that shit.

  • who would dare talk during this...

  • 134 people don't like magic

  • perfect.

  • Der wohl beste Player

  • Thank you, Thank YOU; being one of those people from New Orleans

You and your awesome love and talent has brought more than words can say to my life. GOD Bless always

  • ty ty being one of those people from New Orleans

  • Why don't the people in the background just shut up so we can hear the great guitar solo...

  • Does anyone know how he gets that sound from his foot? I've performed this song several times on stage but when I tick my foot on the stage floor it sounds kinda flat instead of the bass I hear in his performance. Could anyone please tell me what gear he uses for that or how he does that?

  • @xLesPaulx92 google "stomp box"

  • What is that blue thing on the guitar?

is it something to press on the strings so he can play in 1 hand?

  • LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE

    My God that was brilliant!!

  • 134 people do not understand music.

  • amazing *

  • how anyone could unlike that? this video was just .... i can't find a good enough word ... it's more than amazing, wonderfull

  • Dude i'm crying, its just amazing...

  • Awesome.

  • Trio as in two hands and one foot, apparently =D simply amazing..

  • Comment removed

  • Bloody fantastic always like the JBT but this out standing, just simply outstanding.

  • 134 people needs to be kicked in the balls...

  • he looks in pain

  • UnFudgingBelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • saw him perform this in my home town Salmon Arm BC last Sunday........he has made it different but still amazing............unreal!!

  • the best.................................

  • What is this song called?

  • I like how it is only the guitar, but still fills up the room with music. Nothing else is needed but the guitar and his foot for such a great music piece. This truly show the greatness of John Butler.

  • that guitar got raped by a amn who truly feels music...

    \m/ respect \m/

  • 134 people tried to play this

  • @dnzknonline hahahha YESSS!!

  • @dnzknonline awesome comment - made better by the fact that it was actually 134 when i read it

  • Don't take away 10 seconds off of the video please... that's 10 seconds less of greatness

  • i love your music !!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • EVERYBODY SHUT THE FUCK UP!!... he's playing.

  • Why does the public silence?

  • This made 134 people sell their guitars..... xD John Butler forever!!!

  • @LadornCA what?

  • love u john....

  • how can you stop yourself from tapping your feet along with the great music

  • Fuckin' crowed......

  • Dude, you deserve a lot more views.

  • Comment removed

  • his guitar sols are fuking amazing!!!!

  • at the beginning everybody is talking and shit but then as he goes faster everybody shuts up and was prolly thinkin "ohwutttthefuckk" like unicorns and shit

  • how can you dislike this

    the dude rocks

  • How can someone honestly dislike this? i enjoy vairious genres of music and still find this absolutely beautiful. just close your eyes and let this man do what he does best, find your inner beauty

  • This is what Bill & Ted were talking about on their most excellent of adventures. Its gonna create world peace & I believe that music is so under appreciated that if people would open their BIG FUCKING EARS AND HEAR IT. Don't just listen to the music feel it fill ur body with the rawest of emotions. Long live Shannon Hoon's spirit RIP

  • wtf??? (talking to the crowd in the video) how i hell can they keep screaming like that, if i were there i wouldn't have said a single world, imagine how much better it would have been if it was complete silence and everyone could just focus on this sweat symphony!

  • @SebaPee

does look like he is perspiring!

  • This solo is amazing. How can 134 people give it a thumbs down & why would they spend 13:34 of their shit life watching to give negative feedback? U JUST WANNA GO AGAINST THE GRAINS OF POSITIVITY! Check out Tim Reynolds. Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Live at Luther College BEST LIVE CD EVER! Especially guitar solo on Tripping Billies

  • You're telling me you wouldn't be cheering your head off at a JBT show? Because that's just fucking nuts.

  • People seriously need to shut the fu*k up!

  • How much weed does it take to write a song like this?

  • @theookymonster "0" is a possibility right? g.t.f.o. dumbass

  • @theookymonster how much idiot should a person be to say something like that?!

  • @Deepbeatu2 Lets be honest here you can tell this guy burns, and i cant think of any other way you could write something so beautiful and moving.

  • Guys at the back... Could you please shut the fuck up and go to a Justin Bieber concert?

  • this song brings peace to me

  • This crowd needs to shut up and appreciate a song like this, instead of screaming and clapping out of time.

  • His guitar-playing is quite unique, it's a great blend of tapping and finger-style. the songs are also very well written, especially this piece; ocean. I think he's where every guitarist wants to be, developed his own style and all...

  • I hope some people in that venue were touched by this and not all drunk hoo-haws.

  • Ocean changes and its all good! Best guitar song in my books!

  • the beauty of Ocean is that he plays it different everytime. check out some of his other live ocean performances...he just follows a sort of guidline and fills and creates as he goes

  • song is called. ocean :)

  • See Don Ross or Don Alder or Leo Kotke for some breathtaking fingerstyle playing...this is good, but pales

  • wow, totally kick-ass, somehow i bet this guy came up with this all the sudden just messing around, i bet it just flowed form his fingertips one day

  • @audiofunkdialect thats generally how most songs are made...but regardless hes an amazingly talented guitarist and singer

  • @LittleBuddha44 well, i agree with that as far as talented musicians go, but its also assuming most musicians are talented which i think is false

  • @audiofunkdialect no, im not saying most musicians are talented, im just saying that most guitar pieces are made by just fooling around and jamming and then you think "oh that sounds pretty cool, ill work with that". You dont have to be talented to start making your own riffs, but you do to make up ones like Butler's

  • So that is the meaning of "playing guitar"

  • wow this is beautiful wow this is good reefer

  • YEEEAY's , WOOO's and wild animal-like screams from a very disrespectful audience can fuck right off. Let the guy play for the love of god!!!

  • :D

  • Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. JBT is amazing live.

  • PLLLLLLLLLLLLZ PEAOPPPPPPPPPPLES !!SHUUUT UUUUP !!!!

  • i am condemed to overkill

  • I raped the replay button.

  • Imagine the notes on that freaking paper!

  • this is ocean :)

  • Anyone know what John Butler has his guitar tuned to in this??

  • @Wheelerbra69 JB uses open tuning on a 12 string guitar where he takes out 1 G string (either here or on JBT forums you can find out more)

  • @Wheelerbra69 C G C G C e :)

  • @Wheelerbra69 open C with capo on 4th. CGCGCE. so basically he played in open E

  • if i was him id tell the crowd to stfu

  • AWESOME, i bet no asian kid could do better!

  • AMAZING!!HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF YOU?

  • 10:12-10:35 and onwards he gets so into it

  • 2:40 maybe be the most mellow thing iv ever heard

  • best version of this song ever. this song is indescribable.

  • extra le meilleur solo de guitare que j'ai jamais entendu, un pur délice pour les oreilles et pour les yeux ce type est tellement doué que se soit sur ses album ou sur scene un pur merveille

  • just press dislike button, i love the song but when u do the bar looks like a joint :)

  • Take 10 seconds off of the video length and that number best describes this amazing performance.

  • @zekarrot what?

  • @beastyblaze101 Totally 1337

  • @zekarrot 13.37 wtf is that

  • @nezir165 Idiot

  • @nezir165 1337 or LEET or Elite. Meh.. internet term that us cool kids use ;) lol

  • @zekarrot it took me about a month to figure out what you were saying

  • @skyla86 Lmao. Sorry, I think? :P

  • @skyla86 i still don't know what he means

  • @MrBetty2104 it would make it 13:37 (leet, as in elite)

  • @zekarrot: Indeed, good eye. Somehow I suspect your meaning is lost on most. Truly an elite!

  • @skidderhitter yup, but to ensure the 33 people who liked his comment weren't anti;butler I had to wiki it, all is resolved :P

  • @zekarrot Leet?

  • @XentiksFainn 1337----->leet------>Elite

  • @zekarrot What, 1336? Fail?

  • Whats the name of this song?

  • @Kaleb4420 : Ocean

  • This man is amazing.

  • @moneymaker1231 - Unfortunately for you that performance wasn't for youtube, it was for a live audience and part of the joy of going to a live gig is the vibe created by the crowd. If you think everyone should sit in silence and listen like lemons at a gig then you're just a dick. Shoosh now, I'm enjoying the atmosphere.

  • "really tired of writing essays about art i just wanted to make it ya know" awsome..pure and talented musicians like john butler are so rare these days

  • john butler is soo amazing :)

  • I've seen John play a couple of times now, and each time he gets the crowd moving their emotions along with his playing. He winds up the energy and joy, and makes it build and build and then releases it, just like he does here. At the end of this massive crescendo all you want to do is cheer and smile.

  • 133 correction:)

  • he just made that guitar his bitch

  • watch?v=r_ValTB9-4I check it!!!

  • This is why he is my favorite guitarist

  • JOHN BUTLER TRIO - OCEAN the best song which i listened

  • @tjmmckelvey youre dumb

  • Comment removed

  • I honestly dont know HOW these people can talk and listen to this. Let alone why they would talk

  • I love how even at the start of the vid, when he's talking and telling his story, he can't help but fiddle/ play with the guitar. It's like an extension of his body... He is truly amazing.

  • I love how even at the start of the vid, when he's talking and telling his story, he can't help but fiddle/ play with the guitar. It's like an extension of his body... He is truly amazing.

  • AND THEN YOU STAND UP AND START SCREAMING AND HAVE YOUR hands up and your head held high shouting at the skys and it GETs louder and LOUDER AND THEN...FUCK...you came. You turn around and realise everyones quiet and watching you.

    True story.

The sound of youth baby. Listen and live it!

  • and sweat begins to pour from your forehead not realising what the fuck is happening around you but you don't give a cent because what's happening up ahead is just pure magic. And your feet are tapping and your hands tremble in excitement and IT builds up EVEN MORE AND YOU'RE BEGINNING TO GET LOUDER AND LOUDER...

  • This is too awesome for words. it;'s not just what he's playing..It's the way he plays it. He builds up the momentum slowly, slwoly with little sparks shooting and then more sparks and then sparks with smoke and then fires lights up and then the wind gets stronger and the hair on the back of your neck stands up and shivers go down your spine..and slowly it builds up more and more and your bones begin to rattle...

  • beautiful

  • We have the same capo! :D

  • héhè_añyÖNE_wÂÑnÅ_chät_wIth_me_Ï_fêel_sõ_lóNélÿ_tõDáY♫

  • Ive been playing for just short of two years and ive been practicing this song for about the past 3 weeks and i can play virtually everything he does using the exact notes. but can i play it LIKE this at all... fuck no..

  • 133 people were at this show and talked during this whole song

  • I listen to this song like 4 times a day. And I swear, seeing this played live is my dream.. I can't get enough of it either, I just close my eyes and my memories start to flow, like when I was younger, the moments I passed with my friends.. It just makes me feel that everything is great, that I didn't waste anything in the past, you know?

Anyway.. I dream to be like him. John Butler is a master, a genious, and there are very few of them among us right now. We love you John, seriously.

  • @TheGuerrillaradio Couldnt agree more about seeing it live. There is just such a positive vibe from the sound and John himself that you can't help but feel it inside you and your thoughts. I saw him about 6 months ago and all the new variations and little intricacies he used was overwhelming. I actually laughed to myself, just because it was so amazing... I couldnt help it!

  • so talented. A very good story behind the music

  • musical genius doesnt even begin to decribe it

  • i have seen this being played live 3 times and i just can not get enough of it..i sometimes lay there with the light off and u can feel yourself being drawned in to...love it
