I thought they didn't have a Worlds during the Olympic year, but then when I watch the 1996 olympics and they're talking about LiliPod being world champ but i know she won 1995 worlds. So do they have this worlds like a test event but it doesn't count? Also some people say that they don't have a worlds the year after an olympics, which confuses me. HELP!
@bbhouk1 They had an event-only Worlds in 1996, as well as 1992. There was no team or all around competition in 1992 and 1996, so Lilia was still considered World Champion (all around) from 1995. I think there has always been a Worlds the year after an Olympics since 1980, so I don't know why or where you heard that.
@KimZfan Thanks! i didn't expect an answer that soon. glad you cleared that up. But if it is an event-only worlds who would be considered World Champion on, let's say, the beam? the winner from 1995 worlds or the winner from the events-only 1996 worlds?
@bbhouk1 The "reigning" World Champion on beam would be considered the 1996 Worlds winner going into the Olympics (in this case, it was Dina Kochetkova).
In the TF she opened up with a double straight (but landed low and took a large step forward). I guess that's why she changed it into a piked full-in for the AA. Strangely enough, her dismount was also a piked tsuk which is a bit repetitive if you ask me!

It is because she repeated so many elements in her FX during the 1996 Olympic All Around, that she received such a low score. Back then you where only allowed to repeat one element on the Floor Exercise. She had two front fulls, and mounted and dismounted with two piked full ins. She got no credit for the 2nd pike full in, and got a 9.675 out of a 9.8. If she had just done a full in double tuck, she probably would have scored a 9.875
When I read things like this, silly deductions at Atlanta (like Amanar not doing the double turn and getting deducted), I just think: don't they should know about it?!?

Completely! and she should've kept the double layout opening too. She got deducted heavily on her whip-to-tsuk opening in Atlanta, both in TF and AA
