@donerod He does but in a way that many people aren't familiar with. He does what's called circular breathing which is the act of breathing in through the nose while blowing out through the mouth. So hard to do but he does it with ease. Amazing.
@ deerfried Thank you for the post. When "Sketches of Spain(Davis) came out, as a teenager, I was hooked. I have listened to "Mumbles", from that same timeand was hooked, not knowing until right now it is Clark Terry. To me, 2 different people 2 different styles, extrovert vs introvert and what artists both of them be.
@one4dam0ney ed shaughnessy always, and i do mean ALWAYS, had fun when he played, no matter who else was playing. he was made to play drums and kicked butt alla time, too! ;-D ladyleadfoot!!!
@MrEmanuelw CT was Miles' -first- influence and mentor, not biggest. They grew up in East St. Louis -CT was 6 years older than Miles- but as they grew into their own their styles diverged. CT's autobiography is in the works it should be pretty killer when it comes out.
I have read a few places where many musicians felt as though Mr. Terry should have led the NBC Orchestra after Skitch Hendersen departed but that the network did not feel comfortable with an African Amercian. Does anyone know if this is true?
amazing lipsolove l fisher turned me on to clark terry well over 30 or 40 years ago his father worked for beat mag can't remember when last heard him thanks
You boyz are correct about circular breathing..check out the master..."Maynard Ferguson"..on youtube!

Miles = great musician, but a mediocre trumpet player.

@IOLTA So Miles was a great musician who only expressed his music with the trumpet but not a great trumpet player? Not sure thats possible.
