  • You boyz are correct about circular breathing..check out the master..."Maynard Ferguson"..on youtube!

  • This is the sort of night when Johnny would send the remaining guests home and just let Clark and the Band roll...

  • Holy fecal matter, Batman!!! When does he breathe?

  • @donerod He does but in a way that many people aren't familiar with. He does what's called circular breathing which is the act of breathing in through the nose while blowing out through the mouth. So hard to do but he does it with ease. Amazing.

  • @donerod He circular breathes, you see his cheeks puff out as he uses that to blow out while breathing in his next breath... its very hard!

  • 0:00 to 5:52...uhhhhh

  • never heard squeeze me so energetic. i always think of ella fitzgerald singin all laid back.

  • ed is a douche

    confirmed

  • A click...that's funny. They used to use Eddie to set clicks to!! He was more consistent.

  • It looks like Ed was playin to a click...can anyone confirm

  • @davidsegaldrums nah...He's listening to Clark. The click was a sin back in those days.

  • @msailors ah...I see, so he just had it piped in....thanks!

  • @msailors it still is a sin.

  • Playing this good is illegal in seven countries

  • he's so god damn TASTY

  • Seems like he can do anything he want too! Fantastic!!

  • Would've loved a nice acoustic bass with this, don'y you agree?

  • I don't see Conte in the tpt section.

  • Serman Hemsley on 2nd trumpet ha.. weezay!

  • @jazzfunkful Try again, genius. That is the incomparable Snooky Young!

  • Unreal

  • Clark Terry is one of my favorite trumpet/flugelhorn players. I just love the sound he gets on that flugelhorn!

  • what trumpet section!

  • only CT could do that ....

  • yo ed he wants it faster! and u were a dik to me when i was young. hope u have cancer

  • hello Ed he wants to playit faster

  • one amazing set of chops! ;-D

  • superb baby!

  • @ deerfried Thank you for the post. When "Sketches of Spain(Davis) came out, as a teenager, I was hooked. I have listened to "Mumbles", from that same timeand was hooked, not knowing until right now it is Clark Terry. To me, 2 different people 2 different styles, extrovert vs introvert and what artists both of them be.

  • check out clark circular breathing... what monster technique... loves me some clark... nice post

  • @saxnviolinz What is circular breathing technique? Thanks ahead time for you input.

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

  • If i'm correct this is Miles' biggest example and mentor...as far as showmanship this is SO differnet from the Miles approach..weird.

  • @MrEmanuelw CT was Miles' -first- influence and mentor, not biggest. They grew up in East St. Louis -CT was 6 years older than Miles- but as they grew into their own their styles diverged. CT's autobiography is in the works it should be pretty killer when it comes out.

  • @ande1718 Difference - CT had *chops*

Miles = great musician, but a mediocre trumpet player.

  • @IOLTA So Miles was a great musician who only expressed his music with the trumpet but not a great trumpet player? Not sure thats possible.

  • It's rare to see such flawless natural technique. This is a man who has workshopped his Arbans...

  • Hey bones, is that Bruce Paulson on bone?

  • Circular breathing, Clark Terry style. Tremendous joy!

  • The first tune us called "Basie Power"

  • @cohtrumpet

I've seen a chart where it's called Big Bad Band. Ernie Wilkins wrote it, no doubt for CT himself.

  • C.T. always has and always will rule!!!!! Some of my fondest memories from stage are with Clark.

  • He is so amazing. By far, my favourite trumpet player... of all time...

  • Clark Terry =Ohio State Buckeye! Beat Oregon!

  • Happy Birthday, dear Clark Terry!

Born on the 14th of December, 1920.

  • I know he was the 1st African American to be part of the NBC Orchestra.

  • I have read a few places where many musicians felt as though Mr. Terry should have led the NBC Orchestra after Skitch Hendersen departed but that the network did not feel comfortable with an African Amercian. Does anyone know if this is true?
