Nice. The US could've updated the Perry class and still had a significant frigate force, but they have to make everything bigger, more expensive, and less likely to operate on its own. Or, with the LCS project, absolutely ball-less.
@johannsebastienbach The OHP class are not bad ships and were designed to accommodate improvements and mods in weapons systems. It's no wonder, they were built in fairly large numbers and are used by several Navies around the world. These days you don't simply dispose of a vessel because it's "outdated". You modify and improve it.
The ship does not appear to be moving very fast. It is the same for all videos of missile launches. Is it not possible for a warship to be sailing at over 20 knots or even close to 30 knots and still be able to launch missiles.
A little bit is you perception. For such test/trial launcher there is no reason for, you will not see them exceeding about 20 knots for just a trail launch.
The US Navy has actually removed the Mk 13 Rail Launcher from all of it's remaining 30 FFG-7 Frigates and haven't bothered to update it's systems to accommodate the SM2, so it now has no mid range air defense or Harpoon RGM-84 Anti- Ship capability. Our government did the right thing in updating these until the arrival of the Hobart AWD, but they should make a 4th destroyer, no question about that, money aside.
"So should I launch on zero, or one?"
"Yeah"
