Just saw the movie for the first time this past week. Not the best, but pretty good. The flying scenes were impressive overall. Some of the acting wasn't great; Michael Moriarty was more or less miscast, though he was adequate. I also felt the 1903 flight wasn't treated with the reverence it should have been given. But the movie is proof that a movie on the Wrights would make for a great film, if made on a good budget, and with a some top-notch cast!
nice clip - I have to say though that after watching this movie on HULU a while back - it has to be one of the cheeziest flicks ever. The music and acting are horrible. The transitions between scenes is extremely clumsy, the script was horrible as well.. About the only redeeming factor was the history of the Wrights which was put forth in a (fairly) accurate manner.
The first person to fly a powered, heavier than air vehicle (aeroplane) was Sir Hiram Stevens Maxim, (who is more famous for his machine gun). On Tuesday 31st July 1894 at Baldwyn's Park (formerly the site of a mental hospital, now a housing estate) in the London Borough of Bexley, his flyer was launched for the first time and successfully flew.
